Animal Board Invited Review:Meta-analysis of genetic parameters for resilience and efficiency traits in goats and sheep
International audienceGenetic selection focused purely on production traits has proven very successful in improving the productive performance of livestock. However, heightened environmental and infectious disease challenges have raised the need to also improve the resilience of animals to such external stressors, as well as their efficiency in utilising available resources. A better understanding of the relationship between efficiency and production and health traits is needed to properly account for it in breeding programmes and to produce animals that can maintain high production performance in a range of environmental conditions with minimal environmental footprint. The aim of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of genetic parameters for production, efficiency and health traits in sheep and goats. The dataset comprised 963 estimates of heritability and 572 genetic correlations collated from 162 published studies. A threelevel meta-analysis model was fitted. Pooled heritability estimates for milk production traits ranged between 0.27 ± 0.03 and 0.48 ± 0.13 in dairy goats and between 0.21 ± 0.06 and 0.33 ± 0.07 in dairy sheep. In meat sheep, the heritability of efficiency traits ranged from 0.09 ± 0.02 (prolificacy) up to 0.32 ± 0.14 (residual feed intake). For health traits, pooled heritability was 0.07 ± 0.01 (faecal egg count) and 0.21 ± 0.01 (somatic cell score) in dairy goats and 0.14 ± 0.04 (faecal egg count) and 0.13 ± 0.02 (somatic cell score) in dairy sheep. In meat sheep, the heritability of disease resistance and survival traits ranged between 0.07 ± 0.02 (mastitis) and 0.50 ± 0.10 (breech strike). Pooled estimates of genetic correlations between resilience and efficiency traits in dairy goats were not significantly different from zero with the exception of somatic cell score and fat content (À0.19 ± 0.01). In dairy sheep, only the unfavourable genetic correlation between somatic cell score and protein content (0.12 ± 0.03) was statistically significant. In meat sheep only, the correlations between growth and faecal egg count (À0.28 ± 0.11) as well as between growth and dagginess (À0.33 ± 0.13) were statistically significant and favourable. Results of this metaanalysis provide evidence of genetic antagonism between production and health in dairy sheep and goats. This was not observed in meat sheep where most of the pooled estimates had high standard errors and were non-significant. Based on the obtained results, it seems feasible to simultaneously improve efficiency and health in addition to production by including the different types of traits in the breeding goal. However, a better understanding of potential trade-offs between these traits would be beneficial. Particularly, more studies focused on reproduction and resilience traits linked to the animal's multitrait response to challenges are required
Relativistic calculation of the triton binding energy and its implications
First results for the triton binding energy obtained from the relativistic
spectator or Gross equation are reported. The Dirac structure of the nucleons
is taken into account. Numerical results are presented for a family of
realistic OBE models with off-shell scalar couplings. It is shown that these
off-shell couplings improve both the fits to the two-body data and the

Relativistic three-particle scattering equations
We derive a set of relativistic three-particle scattering equations in the
three-particle c.m. frame employing a relativistic three-particle propagator
suggested long ago by Ahmadzadeh and Tjon in the c.m. frame of a two-particle
subsystem. We make the coordinate transformation of this propagator from the
c.m. frame of the two-particle subsystem to the three-particle c.m. frame. We
also point out that some numerical applications of the Ahmadzadeh and Tjon
propagator to the three-nucleon problem use unnecessary nonrelativistic
approximations which do not simplify the computational task, but violate

Relativistic Effect on Low-Energy Nucleon-Deuteron Scattering
The relativistic effect on differential cross sections, nucleon-to-nucleon
and nucleon-to-deuteron polarization transfer coefficients, and the spin
correlation function, of nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering is investigated
employing several three-dimensional relativistic three-body equations and
several nucleon-nucleon potentials. The polarization transfer coefficients are
found to be sensitive to the details of the nucleon-nucleon potentials and the
relativistic dynamics employed, and prefer trinucleon models with the correct

Images in Christmas Balls
We describe light-reflection properties of spherically curved mirrors, like
balls in the Christmas tree. In particular, we study the position of the image
which is formed somewhere beyond the surface of a spherical mirror, when an eye
observes the image of a pointlike light source. The considered problem,
originally posed by Abu Ali Hasan Ibn al-Haitham -- alias Alhazen -- more than
a millennium ago, turned out to have the now well known analytic solution of a
biquadratic equation, being still of great relevance, e.g. for the
aberration-free construction of telescopes. We do not attempt to perform an
exhaustive survey of the rich historical and engineering literature on the
subject, but develop a simple pedagogical approach to the issue, which we
believe to be of continuing interest in view of its maltreating in many

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in the cytosol of normal prostate tissue and highly overexpressed on the membrane of prostate cancer, therefore increasingly used to image prostate cancer. We report a case of a 65-year-old man with two focal PSMA-positive areas on a Ga-PSMA-11 PET/MR, one corresponding to a prostate carcinoma (Gleason score 4 + 3) and another region without any evidence of malignancy, but with corresponding high PSMA-expression on immunohistochemistry
Persistence at the onset of spatiotemporal intermittency in coupled map lattices
We study persistence in coupled circle map lattices at the onset of
spatiotemporal intermittency, an onset which marks a continuous transition, in
the universality class of directed percolation, to a unique absorbing state. We
obtain a local persistence exponent of theta_l = 1.49 +- 0.02 at this
transition, a value which closely matches values for theta_l obtained in
stochastic models of directed percolation. This result constitutes suggestive
evidence for the universality of persistence exponents at the directed
percolation transition. Given that many experimental systems are modelled
accurately by coupled map lattices, experimental measurements of this
