Clinical and Immunopathological Features of Moyamoya Disease
Background: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a cerebrovascular disease characterized by progressive stenosis or occlusion of the terminal portion of internal carotid arteries and the formation of a vascular network at the base of the brain. The pathogenesis of MMD is still unclear. Methodology/Principal Findings: We retrospectively analyzed clinical data for 65 consecutive patients with MMD in our institutions and evaluated the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings of intracranial vessels from 3 patients. The onset age distribution was found to have 1 peak at 40–49 year-old age group, no significant difference was observed in the female-to-male ratio (F/M = 1.2). Intracranial hemorrhage was the predominant disease type (75%). Positive family history was observed in 4.6 % of patients. Histopathological findings were a narrowed lumen due to intimal fibrous thickening without significant inflammatory cell infiltration, and the internal elastic lamina was markedly tortuous and stratified. All 3 autopsy cases showed vacuolar degeneration in the cerebrovascular smooth muscle cells. Immunohistochemical study showed the migration of smooth muscle cells in the thickened intima, and aberrant expression of IgG and S100A4 protein in vascular smooth muscle cells. The Complement C3 immunoreactivity was negative. Conclusion/Significance: This study indicated that aberrant expression of IgG and S100A4 protein in intracranial vascular wall of MMD patients, which suggested that immune-related factors may be involved in the functional and morphologica
Development of Standard Solutions CAI System with UML and XML
Abstract. CAI software products based on TRIZ were successfully applied in superior firms in the world. The Standard Solutions CAI system is one of branch of CAI software. Standard Solutions is important tool for product design. Standard Solutions for innovation firstly models a technical or process problem by Substance-Field (Su-F) Analysis, then synthesizes and converts the problem to acquire a solution. This paper researched on Standard Solutions arithmetic which can be applicable in CAI software product based on Standard Solutions, and established the flow of software. During the development of CAI software product, static models built based on UML were used to construct the configuration of system. For the components of system, dynamic models were used to describe the behaviors of system components. The Standard Solutions CAI software was coded with VC++ language. The interfacial view of this software, which is friendly for users, was created by VC++ combines with XML+XSL. Standard Solutions have great help to innovation design, farther more, its CAI software system help designer adequately apply the theory of Standard Solutions
The Value of lncRNA HULC as a Prognostic Factor for Survival of Cancer Outcome: A Meta-Analysis
Aims: Growing evidence from recent studies has shown that lncRNA HULC plays a role in the development of multiple carcinomas. This meta-analysis aimed to analyze available data to identify the prognostic value of HULC in multiple tumors. Methods: A systematic search was performed by using PubMed (medline), Embase, ISI Web of Knowledge, Springer, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, BioMed Central, ScienceDirect, Wanfang, Weipu, and China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) computerized databases from inception to Nov 30, 2016. The quality of the publications was assessed according to the critical review checklist of the Dutch Cochrane Centre proposed by MOOSE and PRISMA. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were calculated to summarize the effect. Results: A total of ten studies with 1077 cancer patients were pooled in the present meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of HULC in multiple tumors. High expression levels of HULC were demonstrated to be associated with poor overall survival (OS) (HR=2.44, 95%CI: 1.96-3.03, P=0.000). Subgroup analysis showed that cancer type (digestive or non-digestive disease), residence region (China), sample size (more or less than 100) and follow-up months (more or less than 60) did not alter the predictive value of HULC on OS in various cancers. Additionally, increased HULC expression was found to be moderately associated with tumor stage and progression (III/IV vs. I/II: HR=1.59, 95% CI: 1.31-1.92, P<0.00001). Furthermore, elevated HULC expression significantly predicted distant metastasis (HR=3.90, 95% CI: 1.89-8.02, P=0.0002) and lymph node metastasis (HR=2.04, 95% CI: 1.03-4.05, P=0.04) respectively. No significant heterogeneity was observed among studies except lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: The results indicate that HULC expression level is an independent prognostic biomarker for unfavorable OS and metastasis in general tumors
Carbon fiber skeleton/silver nanowires composites with tunable negative permittivity behavior
With the development of periodic metamaterials, more attention has been paid to negative permittivity behavior due to great potential applications. In this paper, silver nanowires (AgNWs) were introduced to the porous carbon fibers (CFS) by an impregnation process to prepare CFS/AgNWs composites with different content of AgNWs and the dielectric property was investigated. With the formation of conductive network, the Drude-like negative permittivity was observed in CFS/AgNWs composites. With the increase of AgNWs, the connectivity of conductive network became enhanced, the conductivity gradually increases, and the absolute value of the negative dielectric constant also increases to 8.9 × 104, which was ascribed to the enhancement of electron density of the composite material. Further investigation revealed that the inductive characteristic was responsible for the negative permittivity
