3D Flat Holography: Entropy and Logarithmic Corrections

    Get PDF
We compute the leading corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the Flat Space Cosmological (FSC) solutions in 3D flat spacetimes, which are the flat analogues of the BTZ black holes in AdS3. The analysis is done by a computation of density of states in the dual 2D Galilean Conformal Field Theory and the answer obtained by this matches with the limiting value of the expected result for the BTZ inner horizon entropy as well as what is expected for a generic thermodynamic system. Along the way, we also develop other aspects of holography of 3D flat spacetimes.Comment: 22 pages; v2: references update

Spectral Flow in 3D Flat Spacetimes

In this paper we investigate spectral flow symmetry in asymptotically flat spacetimes both from a gravity as well as a putative dual quantum field theory perspective. On the gravity side we consider models in Einstein gravity and supergravity as well as their "reloaded" versions, present suitable boundary conditions, determine the respective asymptotic symmetry algebras and the thermal entropy of cosmological solutions in each of these models. On the quantum field theory side we identify the spectral flow symmetry as automorphisms of the underlying symmetry algebra of the theory. Using spectral flow invariance we then determine the thermal entropy of these quantum field theories and find perfect agreement with the results from the gravity side. In addition we determine logarithmic corrections to the thermal entropy.Comment: 42 pages; v2: added minor clarifications, matches published versio

Supersymmetric Localization on dS: Sum over topologies

We find the exact quantum gravity partition function on the static patch of 3d de Sitter spacetime. We have worked in the Chern Simons Formulation of 3d Gravity. To obtain a non-perturbative result, we supersymmetrized the Chern Simons action and used the technique of supersymmetric localization. We have obtained an exact non-perturbative result for the spin-2 gravity case. We comment on the divergences present in the theory. We also comment on higher spin gravity theories and analyse the nature of divergences present in such theories.Comment: Version accepted for publication in EPJ C. Comments are welcom

    Galilean Yang-Mills Theory

We investigate the symmetry structure of the non-relativistic limit of Yang-Mills theories. Generalising previous results in the Galilean limit of electrodynamics, we discover that for Yang-Mills theories there are a variety of limits inside the Galilean regime. We first explicitly work with the SU(2)SU(2) theory and then generalise to SU(N)SU(N) for all NN, systematising our notation and analysis. We discover that the whole family of limits lead to different sectors of Galilean Yang-Mills theories and the equations of motion in each sector exhibit hitherto undiscovered infinite dimensional symmetries, viz. infinite Galilean Conformal symmetries in D=4D=4. These provide the first examples of interacting Galilean Conformal Field Theories (GCFTs) in D>2D>2.Comment: 35 page

Consistent 3D Quantum Gravity on Lens Spaces

We study non-perturbative quantization of 3d gravity with positive cosmological constant (de Sitter space being the prototype vacuum solution, whose Euclideanization of course gives the three sphere) on the background topology of lens space, which is a three spheres modulo a discrete group. Instead of the strategy followed by a recent work \cite{Castro:2011xb}, which compares results in the second and first order formulations of gravity, we concentrate on the later solely. We note, as a striking feature, that the quantization, that relies heavily on the axiomatics of topological quantum field theory (TQFT) can only be consistently carried by augmenting the conventional theory by an additional topological term coupled through a dimensionless parameter. More importantly the introduction of this additional parameter renders the theory finite.Comment: New section and references added. Accepted in Phys. Rev. D for publicatio

    Dynamical structure of Carrollian Electrodynamics

We present an action of ultra-relativistic electrodynamics on a flat Carroll manifold. The model exhibits a couple of physical degrees of freedom per space-point. We observe that the action of the conformal Carroll algebra on the phase space is Hamiltonian in 4 space-time dimensions. Moreover the elements of the algebra give rise to an infinite number of conserved charges and the charge algebra is an exact realization of the kinematical algebra.Comment: Added few reference
