EPR experiment and 2-photon interferometry: Report of a 2-photon interference experiment
After a very brief review of the historical Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen (EPR) experiments, a new two-photon interference type EPR experiment is reported. A two-photon state was generated by optical parametric down conversion. Pairs of light quanta with degenerate frequency but divergent directions of propagation were sent to two independent Michelson interferometers. First and second order interference effectors were studied. Different than other reports, we observed that the second order interference visibility vanished when the optical path difference of the interferometers were much less than the coherence length of the pumping laser beam. However, we also observed that the second order interference behaved differently depending on whether the interferometers were set at equal or different optical path differences
Comment on ``Dispersion-Independent High-Visibility Quantum Interference ... "
We show in this Comment that the interpretation of experimental data as well
as the theory presented in Atat\"ure et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 618 (2000)]
are incorrect and discuss why such a scheme cannot be used to "recover"
high-visibility quantum interference.Comment: Comment on Atat\"ure et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 618 (2000)], 2nd

Gravitational Wave Bursts from Collisions of Primordial Black Holes in Clusters
The rate of gravitational wave bursts from the mergers of massive primordial
black holes in clusters is calculated. Such clusters of black holes can be
formed through phase transitions in the early Universe. The central black holes
in clusters can serve as the seeds of supermassive black holes in galactic
nuclei. The expected burst detection rate by the LISA gravitational wave
detector is estimated.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Dispersion spreading of polarization-entangled states of light and two-photon interference
We study the interference structure of the second-order intensity correlation
function for polarization-entangled two-photon light obtained from type-II
collinear frequency-degenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC).
The structure is visualised due to the spreading of the two-photon amplitude as
two-photon light propagates through optical fibre with group-velocity
dispersion (GVD). Because of the spreading, polarization-entangled Bell states
can be obtained without any birefringence compensation at the output of the
nonlinear crystal; instead, proper time selection of the intensity correlation
function is required. A birefringent material inserted at the output of the
nonlinear crystal (either reducing the initial o-e delay between the oppositely
polarized twin photons or increasing this delay) leads to a more complicated
interference structure of the correlation function.Comment: Extended version of our recent PRL paper. Submitted to PR
Study of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state for space-time variables in a two photon interference experiment
A pair of correlated photons generated from parametric down conversion was sent to two independent Michelson interferometers. Second order interference was studied by means of a coincidence measurement between the outputs of two interferometers. The reported experiment and analysis studied this second order interference phenomena from the point of view of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox. The experiment was done in two steps. The first step of the experiment used 50 psec and 3 nsec coincidence time windows simultaneously. The 50 psec window was able to distinguish a 1.5 cm optical path difference in the interferometers. The interference visibility was measured to be 38 percent and 21 percent for the 50 psec time window and 22 percent and 7 percent for the 3 nsec time window, when the optical path difference of the interferometers were 2 cm and 4 cm, respectively. By comparing the visibilities between these two windows, the experiment showed the non-classical effect which resulted from an E.P.R. state. The second step of the experiment used a 20 psec coincidence time window, which was able to distinguish a 6 mm optical path difference in the interferometers. The interference visibilities were measured to be 59 percent for an optical path difference of 7 mm. This is the first observation of visibility greater than 50 percent for a two interferometer E.P.R. experiment which demonstrates nonclassical correlation of space-time variables
On Preparing Entangled Pairs of Polarization Qubits in the Frequency Non-Degenerate Regime
The problems associated with practical implementation of the scheme proposed
for preparation of arbitrary states of polarization ququarts based on biphotons
are discussed. The influence of frequency dispersion effects are considered,
and the necessity of group velocities dispersion compensation in the frequency
non-degenerate case even for continuous pumping is demonstrated. A method for
this compensation is proposed and implemented experimentally. Physical
restrictions on the quality of prepared two-photon states are revealed.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
Hall Effect in the coma of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Magnetohydrodynamics simulations have been carried out in studying the solar
wind and cometary plasma interactions for decades. Various plasma boundaries
have been simulated and compared well with observations for comet 1P/Halley.
The Rosetta mission, which studies comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, challenges
our understanding of the solar wind and comet interactions. The Rosetta Plasma
Consortium observed regions of very weak magnetic field outside the predicted
diamagnetic cavity. In this paper, we simulate the inner coma with the Hall
magnetohydrodynamics equations and show that the Hall effect is important in
the inner coma environment. The magnetic field topology becomes complex and
magnetic reconnection occurs on the dayside when the Hall effect is taken into
account. The magnetic reconnection on the dayside can generate weak magnetic
filed regions outside the global diamagnetic cavity, which may explain the
Rosetta Plasma Consortium observations. We conclude that the substantial change
in the inner coma environment is due to the fact that the ion inertial length
(or gyro radius) is not much smaller than the size of the diamagnetic cavity.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figur
Multi-Particle Interferometry Based on Double Entangled States
A method for producing a 4-photon entangled state based on the use of two independent pair sources is discussed. Of particular interest is that each of the pair sources produces a two-photon state which is simultaneously entangled in both polarization and space-time variables. Performing certain measurements which exploit this double entanglement provides an opportunity for verifying the recent demonstration of nonlocality by Greenberger, Horne, and Zeilinger
Two-Photon Entanglement and EPR Experiments Using Type-2 Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion
Simultaneous entanglement in spin and space-time of a two-photon quantum state generated in type-2 spontaneous parametric down-conversion is demonstrated by the observation of quantum interference with 98% visibility in a simple beam-splitter (Hanburry Brown-Twiss) anticorrelation experiment. The nonlocal cancellation of two-photon probability amplitudes as a result of this double entanglement allows us to demonstrate two different types of Bell's inequality violations in one experimental setup
