Observation of Coherently-Enhanced Tunable Narrow-Band Terahertz Transition Radiation from a Relativistic Sub-Picosecond Electron Bunch Train
We experimentally demonstrate the production of narrow-band (% at THz) THz transition radiation with tunable
frequency over [0.37, 0.86] THz. The radiation is produced as a train of
sub-picosecond relativistic electron bunches transits at the vacuum-aluminum
interface of an aluminum converter screen. We also show a possible application
of modulated beams to extend the dynamical range of a popular bunch length
diagnostic technique based on the spectral analysis of coherent radiation.Comment: 3 pages, 6 figure
Prospects of cold dark matter searches with an ultra-low-energy germanium detector
The report describes the research program on the development of
ultra-low-energy germanium detectors, with emphasis on WIMP dark matter
searches. A threshold of 100 eV is achieved with a 20 g detector array,
providing a unique probe to the low-mas WIMP. Present data at a surface
laboratory is expected to give rise to comparable sensitivities with the
existing limits at the WIMP-mass range. The projected
parameter space to be probed with a full-scale, kilogram mass-range experiment
is presented. Such a detector would also allow the studies of neutrino-nucleus
coherent scattering and neutrino magnetic moments.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of TAUP-2007 Conferenc
Effect of electron-electron scattering on spin dephasing in a high-mobility low-density twodimensional electron gas
Utilizing time-resolved Kerr rotation techniques, we have investigated the
spin dynamics of a high mobility, low density two dimensional electron gas in a
GaAs/Al0:35Ga0:65As heterostructure in dependence on temperature from 1.5 K to
30 K. It is found that the spin relaxation/dephasing time under a magnetic
field of 0.5 T exhibits a maximum of 3.12 ns around 14 K, superimposed on an
increasing background with rising temperature. The appearance of the maximum is
ascribed to that at the temperature where the crossover from the degenerate to
the nondegenerate regime takes place, electron-electron Coulomb scattering
becomes strongest, and thus inhomogeneous precession broadening due to
D'yakonov-Perel'(DP) mechanism becomes weakest. These results agree with the
recent theoretical predictions [Zhou et al., PRB 75, 045305 (2007)], verifying
the importance of electron-electron Coulomb scattering to electron spin
relaxation/dephasing.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
