Organic Broiler Chicken Production Trial Allee Farm, 2001
The Iowa State University Allee Farm is classified as a diversified small grain and livestock operation. Two hundred certified organic Cornish-rock broiler chickens were range fed in 2000. Allee Demonstration Farm Crop and Livestock Report
The advisory committee for the Allee Demonstration Farm has emphasized demonstrating sustainable farm practices on a small farm. The Allee Farm operation consists of 35 certified organic acres, 229 conventional acres, 300 head of market beef cattle, a two-litter (spring and fall) pasture farrowing system with 60–80 sows, finishing swine in three hoop structures, and an organic free-range broiler chicken demonstration project
Low Linolenic Soybean Plots
This project is designed to compare the yields of the new Iowa State low linolenic soybean varieties with soybean varieties commonly grown as food grade soybeans for specialty markets near the Allee Research Farm, Newell, Iowa. The Allee Research Farm is the zone for group 2 maturity range soybeans. The new IA2064 low linolenic soybean variety is adapted to this zone. Producers need performance data to help evaluate the premium offered for growing the new soybeans. Premiums are designed to cover yield drag and identity preservation costs

Organic Broiler Chicken Production Trial–Allee Farm
The Iowa State University Allee Farm is classified as a small conventional grain and livestock operation. Decreasing profit margins for smaller farms have led the Allee Farm into sustainable diversified niche market demonstrations. Five acres of corn were certified organic in 1999 by the Organic Crop Improvement Association. A specialized livestock marketing plan was implemented in June 2000. As a means of adding value to the organic grain, direct market organic broiler chickens were raised. This demonstration will provide knowledge of an integrated farm organic system from a commodity crop to the consumer’s plate
