The other obstacle is there some drinking water depot who do not want to check the quality of the water in the local health laboratories since the cost is too expensive. Keywords: Supervising, Drinking Water Storehouses, Mojokerto cit

Talking about Trees: Stances towards Political Poetry in Adrienne Rich’s “What Kind of Times are These”

    Get PDF
This paper aims to present the potential for political activism within poetry by analysing the poem “What Kind of Times are These” by Adrienne Rich. The literary analysis demonstrates an affinity with the second-wave feminist stance of the personal as being inherently political, implying a necessity for political poetry that addresses injustices beyond the political macro level of the public realm. The author thus makes the case for poetry as a means for socio-political interaction, allowing those who are overheard in the public sphere to expose systemic injustices that seep into the private realm

The ICCAT Shark Research and Data Collection Program (SRDCP) aims to develop and coordinate science and science-related activities needed to support provision of sound scientific advice for the conservation and management of pelagic sharks in the Atlantic. This Program was developed in 2013-2014 by the Sharks Species Group, and framed within the 2015-2020 SCRS Strategic Plan. Within this Program, a specific study on the age and growth of shortfin mako in the Atlantic was developed, with the purpose of contributing to the 2017 ICCAT SMA stock assessment. In the paper, we provide an update of the project, including preliminary growth models for the North Atlantic Ocean.Project "LL-Sharks: Mitigação das capturas de tubarÔes na pescaria de palangre de superfície (Ref: 31-03-05-FEP-44, funded by PROMAR)", Project "MAKO-WIDE - "A wide scale inter-hemispheric and inter-disciplinary study aiming the conservation of the shortfin mako shark in the Atlantic Ocean (Ref: FAPESP/19740/2014)", funded by FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) and FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation, Brazil), and Project SAFEWATERS SC7 (The provision of advice on the conservation of pelagic sharks associated to fishing activity under EU Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements in the Atlantic Ocean) under the Framework Contract MARE/2012/21, funded by the European Commission. Exploring the social representations of vulnerable populations being helped

    Get PDF
Resorting to Social Representation Theory, the aim of this study was to investigate the perceptions of help recipients about Help, namely in terms of the shared representations about Helping Institutions, the self-perceptions of aid recipients and the potential Social Status Distance with regard to their helpers. Twenty-five members of vulnerable groups that benefited from help programs offered by Non-Profit Institutions/Organizations, aged between 18 and 70-years-old, responded to semi-structured interviews. Following the theoretical-methodological orientation of the structural approach of Social Representation Theory (Abric, 1984), the 800 free evocations and 149 words produced during the interviews, underwent a prototypical analysis with open-EVOC software (2000). In addition to contributing to Social Representation Theory by considering the theme of helping relations, the results of the present study showed – in contrast to the literature on orientations toward help (Nadler, 1997; 1998; 2002; 2015) – the importance, at different levels, of both autonomy and dependency orientations (and not just the latter). This study showed the importance, for the recipients of help, of being protagonists, active and autonomous in the process of improving their psychological and material situation; together with the importance of enjoying material goods, even if it means depending on an institution. Results are discussed as a potential contribution to designing help programs that might provide greater benefits and well-being to help recipients.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Monomial projections of Veronese varieties: new results and conjectures

In this paper, we consider the homogeneous coordinate rings A(Yn,d)≅K[Ωn,d]A(Y_{n,d}) \cong \mathbb{K}[\Omega_{n,d}] of monomial projections Yn,dY_{n,d} of Veronese varieties parameterized by subsets Ωn,d\Omega_{n,d} of monomials of degree dd in n+1n+1 variables where: (1) Ωn,d\Omega_{n,d} contains all monomials supported in at most ss variables and, (2) Ωn,d\Omega_{n,d} is a set of monomial invariants of a finite diagonal abelian group G⊂GL(n+1,K)G \subset GL(n+1,\mathbb{K}) of order dd. Our goal is to study when K[Ωn,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{n,d}] is a quadratic algebra and, if so, when K[Ωn,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{n,d}] is Koszul or G-quadratic. For the family (1), we prove that K[Ωn,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{n,d}] is quadratic when s≄⌈n+22⌉s \ge \lceil \frac{n+2}{2} \rceil. For the family (2), we completely characterize when K[Ω2,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{2,d}] is quadratic in terms of the group G⊂GL(3,K)G \subset GL(3,\mathbb{K}), and we prove that K[Ω2,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{2,d}] is quadratic if and only if it is Koszul. We also provide large families of examples where K[Ωn,d]\mathbb{K}[\Omega_{n,d}] is G-quadratic.Comment: To appear in Journal of Algebr

The second \u2013 the IFA construct outlined within the project and the related indicator system developed to support university teachers in the systematic observation of videos and in reflection on their teaching practices (validated by an international panel of experts) are presented

Transformation Literacy to Transformative Unity: A Noble Experiment From Me to We

    Get PDF
This case study shares our learning journey while co-creating The Mindfulness Alliance, a non-profit committed to catalyzing collective capacity to foster awareness-based social change. The paper explores our contemplative governance development through the lens of the me-to-We journey, the shift from an ego-centric to an eco-centric worldview. We present our 4C framework as a means to better understand this inner journey and the essential awarenessbased transformation literacies that we need to cultivate in order to meet urgent intra- and interdependent societal challenges. We explain the me-to-We journey as a journey toward transformative unity, a new term which explicates the type of interdependent unity needed to change the world. We introduce The Cycle of Transformative Unity, an emergent awareness-based model which incorporates the concept of toroidal flow to support understanding the 4C change processes as the constantly unfolding, nonlinear, interdependent journey from me-to-We. These models (1) give rise to new ways of thinking and teaching about the journey of growing awareness, (2) have implications for the evolution of practice frameworks and trainings, and (3) offer insights for the creation of educational spaces that are relevant to educators, leaders, practitioners, and change-makers in any arena. The article advocates for intentionally growing the capacity for awareness and the capacity for connectedness, to foster the transformative unity needed for broad social change. We are each called upon to dare greatly, and to reimagine a just way forward—together
