    A soil quality index to evaluate the vermicompost amendments effects on soil properites

    502-510The aims of this work were 1) to evaluate the changes in soil properties with the application of different amounts of vermicompost (10 and 20 Mg·ha–1), and 2) to construct a soil quality index that allows the evaluation of changes in the most sensitive soil parameters. The study was carried out in a cattle field of General Alvear, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vermicompost application showed a positive effect on most of the chemical and biological soil properties evaluated, especially with the higher dose (20 Mg·ha–1). There were slight but significant increases in electrical conductivity and soil pH with the higher dose of vermicompost. Physical soil properties were not affected by the vermicompost amend-ment. The SQI showed a significant increase of soil quality with the vermicompost dose of 20 Mg·ha–1, especially by enhancing the biochemical and biological properties

    Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso apresentado ao Instituto Latino-Americano de Economia Sociedade e Política da Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana, como requisito parcial à obtenção do título de Bacharel em Serviço Social.Este estudo buscou realizar breves considerações sobre a Política de Assistência Social com recorte para a atuação do Assistente Social na a Proteção Social Básica no Centro de Referência de Assistência Social Norte pré (2019) e durante (2020) a calamidade pública denominada COVID-19. O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar os impactos da Pandemia no trabalho do Assistente Social no CRAS Norte de Foz do Iguaçu no período estudado. Partindo da compreensão que a pandemia impôs desafios à atuação do Assistente Social na Proteção Social Básica, pelo desmonte e desfinanciamento, sobretudo, da Assistência Social nos governos Temer e Bolsonaro. Na elucidação do objeto de estudo optou-se pelo método de abordagem qualitativos e tipos de pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e exploratória como resultados podemos inferir que a crise antecede a Pandemia, mas é nela que vai se intensificar, precarizando as condições de trabalho e atuação profissional deixando-a mercê das emergências

    Correlates of Smoking Cessation Among Filipino Immigrant Men

    A survey on tobacco use among 318 Filipino immigrant men aged 40–75 years was conducted in Los Angeles, California. Those who reported more English language use with their family, friends and neighbors (OR = 1.31) and who lived in households with complete smoking prohibition (OR = 3.82) were more likely to be successful in quitting smoking. Those who endorsed more positive beliefs on physical and social consequences of smoking (OR = 0.69) and who had mostly smoking friends (OR = 0.37) were less likely to be successful in quitting smoking. Our findings suggest that prohibiting smoking in households, creating social networks of non-smokers, and education or counseling are important components of a smoking cessation intervention for Filipino immigrant men

    Las fracturas proximales de humero afectan directamente la articulación del hombro, el cual ordena los movimientos de la extremidad superior, para la realización de las actividades de la vida diaria, como la higiene personal, vestirse y la alimentación. La fractura de extremidad proximal del húmero sigue siendo una fractura de intervención compleja de resolver debido a su ubicación y a su anatomía, la cual es un tema de mucha importancia de estudio. En el presente trabajo se investigó y recopilo información para poder establecer un tratamiento eficaz buscando el pronóstico más favorable de rehabilitación para el paciente. Se revisó la parte anatómica y biomecánica como pilar para el desarrollo del tema y así poder entender sus consecuencias. Para realizar un adecuado plan de tratamiento el fisioterapeuta debe realizar una correcta evaluación para dar un diagnóstico mediante la exploración física, diagnóstico de imágenes. Se demostraron diferentes ejercicios y estrategias de tratamiento fisioterapéutico post quirúrgico. Las investigaciones utilizadas coinciden en la importancia de la intervención temprana de la terapia física para la mejor recuperación del paciente en cuanto a la estabilidad, movilidad y la rigidez de la fijación. El tratamiento exitoso de las fracturas proximales del húmero depende de la labor del personal multidisciplinario la pronta recuperación del paciente

    Participative planning: Urban-rural territories in San Juan Province

    En los últimos años se registra en Argentina una expansión de las ciudades hacia territorios rurales acentuando procesos de segregación socio-espacial. En la provincia de San Juan, la implementación del Programa Lote Hogar, ha propiciado urbanizaciones en territorios de interfaz urbano-rural en el Área Metropolitana de la provincia. En este contexto, se advierte que las urbanizaciones no han incorporado características particulares de la población, ni las infraestructuras necesarias para generar conexiones con la ciudad, así como tampoco se proyectan espacios suficientes que coadyuven al fortalecimiento de redes sociales al interior del barrio. El presente trabajo expone los resultados de un proyecto de desarrollo tecnológico y social que tiene como objetivo la elaboración de instrumentos de planificación participativa para la intervención de barrios construidos en la interfaz urbano-rural. Para ello, se selecciona como caso de estudio el Barrio Lote Hogar 24. Se sostiene que a través del diseño y aplicación de instrumentos de planificación que incorporen a los actores locales, es posible revertir procesos de segregación socio-espacial. Finalmente, se presentan recomendaciones a las políticas habitacionales haciendo foco en las particularidades que presentan los barrios en territorios de interfaz urbano-rural, con vistas a su vinculación con la ciudad y la cohesión al interior del barrio.The present work let us know the result of a project of technological and social development which has as an aim the elaboration of tools for participative planning in the intervention of neighborhoods built in the urban-rural interface. In recent years it has been detected the expansion of cities towards rural territories producing increas-ingly social and spatial segregation processes. In San Juan province, the implementation of Lote Hogar Program has led to urbanizations in urban-rural interface territories of the Metropolitan Area of the province. These urbanizations neither have incorporated particular characteristics of their population, (as it is the case of Lote Hogar 24) or the necessary infrastructure to generate connections with the city, in fact, there have not been projected enough spaces in these places to contribute to strengthening social networks towards the inside of the district. It is sustained that through the design and application of planning tools which incorporates local actors, it is possible to get a reverse in social-spatial segregation processes. Therefore, recommendations as regards housing policies are put forward, focusing on these particularities of neighborhoods in urban-rural interface territories, with the aim of their further interrelation with the city and their cohesion within the neighborhood.Fil: Romero, Mirta Beatriz.     Environmental selection pressures related to iron utilization are involved in the loss of the Flavodoxin Gene from the plant genome

    Oxidative stress and iron limitation represent the grim side of life in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. The versatile electron transfer shuttle ferredoxin,aniron-sulfurprotein,isparticularlysensitivetothesehardships,anditsdownregulationunderadverseconditionsseverely compromises survival of phototrophs. Replacement of ferredoxin by a stress-resistant isofunctional carrier, flavin-containing flavodoxin, is a widespread strategy employed by photosynthetic microorganisms to overcome environmental adversities. The flavodoxin gene was lostin the course ofplantevolution, but its reintroduction in transgenicplants confers increased tolerance to environmental stress and iron starvation, raising the question as to whya genetic asset with obvious adaptive value was not kept by natural selection. Phylogenetic analyses reveal that the evolutionary history of flavodoxin is intricate, with several horizontal gene transfer events between distant organisms, including Eukarya, Bacteria, and Archaea. The flavodoxin gene is unevenly distributed in most algal lineages, with flavodoxin-containing species being overrepresented in iron-limited regions and scarce or absent in iron-rich environments. Evaluation of cyanobacterial genomic and metagenomic data yielded essentially the same results, indicating that there was little selection pressure to retain flavodoxin in iron-rich coastal/freshwater phototrophs. Our results show a highly dynamic evolution pattern of flavodoxin tightly connected to the bioavailability of iron. Evidence presented here also indicates that the high concentration of iron in coastal and freshwater habitats may have facilitated the loss of flavodoxin in the freshwater ancestor of modern plants during the transition of photosynthetic organisms from the open oceans to the firm land.Fil: Pierella Karlusich, Juan José.     Estudio de prefactibilidad para la instalación de una planta productora de shampoo en barra a base de las saponinas de la quinua

    En la presente investigación se evaluó la viabilidad económica, comercial, social, tecnológica y medioambiental para la instalación de una planta productora de shampoo en barra utilizando las saponinas de la quinua como tensoactivo natural, con el fin de satisfacer las necesidades básicas del cuidado y lavado del cabello, con un producto que aprovecha los desperdicios de la quinua y es amigable con el medio ambiente. Se determinó la población objetivo (personas entre 13 y 55 años, NSE A y B, zonas 6, 7 y 8 de Lima Metropolitana) y la demanda del proyecto, para un horizonte de 5 años, obteniendo 153 507 barras de shampoo para el último año. Luego, se realizó un análisis de localización, en el que se determinó a Villa el Salvador, Lima como el distrito donde se ubicará la planta de producción. Asimismo, se determinó el tamaño óptimo de la planta, para lo cual se consideró como factor concluyente al tamaño-mercado, calculado en 153 507 barras de shampoo al año, cantidad que superó al punto de equilibrio. En la evaluación de la ingeniería del proyecto, se determinó el proceso y maquinaria a utilizar y se realizó el diseño de las instalaciones, definiendo el área mínima de producción en 33.5 m2 y considerando un tamaño total para las instalaciones de 442 m2. Además, se realizó una evaluación económica y financiera del proyecto en la cual se determinó la inversión total requerida (S/.1 007 448), financiada en un 30% por un préstamo bancario, obteniendo un VANF de S/.1 361 997, TIR de 65.09%, relación beneficio-costo de 2.93 y periodo de recupero de 2 años, 1 mes. Por último, se realizó una evaluación social en la cual se obtuvo un valor agregado total de S/.8 854 965, lo cual indica que el proyecto es muy beneficioso para la sociedad.This project evaluates the economic, commercial, social, technological and environmental feasibility of installing a plant to produce a shampoo bar based on quinoa saponins as a natural surfactant, in order to meet the basic needs of hair care, through a product that takes advantage of quinoa waste and is environmentally friendly. A market study was conducted to determine the target population, which was defined as the group of people between 13 and 55 years of age, of socioeconomic levels A and B, in zones 6, 7 and 8 of Metropolitan Lima. In this way, the demand for the project was determined for a 5-year horizon, where, for the last year, a demand of 153,507 shampoo bars was obtained. In addition, a sample of the target population was surveyed and the selling price was determined at 30 soles. Then, a micro and macro location analysis was carried out, in which Villa el Salvador, Lima was determined as the district where the production plant will be located. Likewise, the optimum plant size was determined, for which the size-market was considered as a conclusive factor, calculated at 153,507 shampoo bars per year, an amount that exceeded the break-even point. In the engineering evaluation of the project, the process and machinery to be used were determined. The minimum production area was defined as 33.5 m2 and the total size of the facilities was considered to be 442 m2. In addition, an economic and financial evaluation of the project was carried out, which determined the total investment required at S/. 1,007,448, 30% of which is financed by a bank loan, with an NPV of 1,361,997 soles, an IRR of 65.09%, a benefit-cost ratio of 2.93, and a payback period of 2 years and 1 month. Finally, a social evaluation of the project was carried out, in which a total value added of 8,854,965 soles was obtained, indicating that the project is very beneficial to society

    Atrazine degradation by wild filamentous fungi

    Bioremediation is a promising technology for the treatment of polluted areas due to its minor cost;moreover, indigenous fungi had not been already applied to detoxify contaminated habitats. The kinetic of atrazine degradation by Gliocladium roseum, Mucor alternans and Pycnidiophora dispersa were assessed in soluble and soil sorbed herbicide with different organic matter content. Their half-saturation constants, Km, expressed the affinity for the substrate, being 12.5, 3.8 and 2.7 μg/ml for G. roseum, M. alternans and P. dispersa. Moreover, Vmax, uptake rate/ biomass, assumed by the asymptotes of each fungal curves were 43.5-41.0, 37.5-35.0 and 26.5-24.5 μg Atz/min-1. mg for G. roseum, M. alternans and P. dispersa, respectivelly. The 65-75% was in soluble phase, that was preferentially degraded by fungi. Our results showed that the atrazine transformation were consistent with those in pure cultures, suggesting that the parameters derived from in-vitro studies may be useful to predict the herbicide detoxification in polluted sediments. Fungal kinetic allowed us to predict the atrazine degradation in natural contaminated habitats and was in relation to the herbicide levels especially in soil solutions.Fil: Romero, Maria Cristina.
