E. San Juan, Jr. at ang Diskursong Kulturang Popular
While E. San Juan, Jr. admits that he has done little scholarship on popular culture, my contention is that his body of works—especially in the areas of cultural revolution, Third World literature, and diaspora—provides a substantial contribution and intervention in Philippine cultural studies and popular culture studies. His writings on these typify the critical resolve in the cultural turns as experienced in the rise of cultural studies. In particular, it is useful to the analysis of popular culture, representing a framework that has integrity, even in the mapping of the contemporary popularity of social media platforms. This personal essay analyzes the various stages in the rise and development of cultural studies, including the mediations of San Juan in his related critiques, including the place and placement of cultural revolution. The field of popular culture studies owes San Juan a huge gratitude with his early appreciation and understanding that culture is political, and that the political’s call is for national social transformation
Transmission needs across a fully renewable European power system
The residual load and excess power generation of 27 European countries with a
100% penetration of variable renewable energy sources are explored in order to
quantify the benefit of power transmission between countries. Estimates are
based on extensive weather data, which allows for modelling of hourly
mismatches between the demand and renewable generation from wind and solar
photovoltaics. For separated countries, balancing is required to cover around
24% of the total annual energy consumption. This number can be reduced down to
15% once all countries are networked together with uncon- strained
interconnectors. The reduction represents the maximum possible benefit of
transmission for the countries. The total Net Transfer Capacity of the
unconstrained interconnectors is roughly twelve times larger than current
values. However, constrained interconnector capacities six times larger than
the current values are found to provide 97% of the maximum possible benefit of
cooperation. This motivates a detailed investigation of several constrained
transmission capacity layouts to determine the export and import capabilities
of countries participating in a fully renewable European electricity system

A Geometric Representation for the Proca Model
The Proca model is quantized in an open-path dependent representation that
generalizes the Loop Representation of gauge theories. The starting point is a
gauge invariant Lagrangian that reduces to the Proca Lagrangian when certain
gauge is selected.Comment: 10 pages, Late
Branding4Resilience: Explorative and Collaborative Approaches for Inner Territories
This article analyzes inner and marginal territories in four Italian peripheral contexts by first discussing some of the results and future steps of the “B4R Branding4Resilience” research project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Research from 2020 to 2023. The overall research is based on three phases: (1) the exploration phase to analyze socio-economic data and territorial dynamics; (2) the co-design phase involving local actors to develop ideas for a selected pilot case; (3) the co-visioning phase where a future transformative perspective for the whole area was shared with the institutions. The article focuses on phase 1 and presents some first results achieved by the application of a methodological approach based on the integration of different qualitative and quantitative tools and methods. The results outline the exploration of the four selected territories through data analyses and mapping, perceptive-narrative explorations, field research, and explorative designs. The concept of peripherality is addressed in a critical way, trying to go beyond standardized definitions, including interdisciplinarity as an essential tool for territorial enhancement and branding. The main interpretation findings not only outline possible strategies and actions for the four analyzed inner territories, but also foster the application of the proposed methodological approach in other complex socio-economic contexts
