The ancient main altarpiece of the Saint Francis Monastery in Écija: work of the Flemish painter Giraldo de Hel (1563-1566?)
El 20 de marzo de 1563, Fr. Juan de Belalcázar, guardián del convento de San Francisco de Écija, contrata con el pintor flamenco Giraldo de Hel la hechura del retablo mayor del citado cenobio astigitano. La conservación del concierto de obra, en la Sección de Protocolos del Archivo Histórico Provincial de Córdoba, nos permite conocer, desde el punto de vista morfológico e iconográfico, tan importante pieza artística, sustituida en el primer cuarto del siglo XVII.On March 20, 1563, Fr. Juan de Belalcázar, guardian of the Saint Francis monastery in Écija contract with the Flemish painter Giraldo de Hel the construction of the main altarpiece of that friary. The conservation of the contract, in the Protocols section of the Provincial Historical Archive in Córdoba, enables us to learn morphologically and iconographically so important artistic piece, replaced in the first quarter of the eighteenth century
"Virgin and Child with a bunch of grapes": unprecedent work of the circle of Marcellus Coffermans
En el presente artículo damos a conocer una nueva obra del círculo del maestro flamenco Marcellus Coffermans. El numeroso catálogo de pinturas relacionadas con el entorno de este artista se ve aumentado con una pieza inédita, conservada en una colección particular de Sevilla. Se trata de un óleo sobre tabla que representa a "La Virgen del racimo". De esta manera queremos contribuir en el conocimiento de una de las escuelas pictóricas de mayor repercusión en la pintura española.In this article we present a new work of the circle of master Flemish Marcellus Coffermans. The large catalog of paintings related to the environment of this artist is increased with an unprecedented piece which is preserved in a private collection in Seville. It’s an oil on board painting which represents the “Virgin and Child with a bunch of grapes”. In this way we contribute to the knowledge of one of the painting schools with more repercussion on Spanish painting

La pintura sevillana del Renacimiento es, sin duda, uno de los
periodos más interesantes de la historia del arte hispalense. Este artículo
ofrece una panorámica actualizada de tan importante etapa en la escuela
pictórica de la ciudad de la Giralda. Con ese fin se explican las características
generales y, siguiendo un orden cronológico, se analizan sus principales
obras y protagonistas. Entre ellos, podemos citar a Alejo Fernández, Pedro
de Campaña, Hernando de Esturmio, Luis de Vargas, Pedro de Villegas

An "Adoration of the shepherds" by Hendrick de Clerck in Seville's convent of The Teresas
Damos a conocer una nueva obra del pintor flamenco Hendrick de Clerck (ca. 1570-1630). La pintura representa la “Adoración de los pastores” y se conserva en el convento de las Teresas de Sevilla. El análisis de sus características técnicas, estilísticas e iconográficas nos permite atribuir dicha pieza al pincel de este maestro manierista, máximo exponente de la escuela pictórica de Bruselas.We present a new work by the Flemish painter Hendrick de Clerck (ca. 1570-1630). The painting depicts the “Adoration of the shepherds”and it ́spreserved in the convent of Teresas in Seville. The analysis of his technical, stylistic and iconographic characteristics allows us to attribute this piece to the distinctive paintbrush of this Mannerist master, who is the greatest exponent of the Brussels Painting School
A new cervantine’s relief by Antonio Castillo Lastrucci
En el presente trabajo damos a conocer una obra inédita de Antonio Castillo Lastrucci, conservada
en una colección particular sevillana. Se trata de un relieve en barro cocido de temática cervantina.
En particular, reproduce una escena de la célebre novela El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de
la Mancha, una de las mejores composiciones de la literatura universal. Con ello enriquecemos el ingente
y variado catálogo de tan prolífico artista, más conocido por sus famosas obras de imaginería
procesional.We introduce in this paper an unpublished artwork by Antonio Castillo Lastrucci, which is preserved
in a private Sevillian collection. It is a terracotta relief about cervantine subject. In this case,
there is represented a scene about the outstanding novel The ingenious gentleman don Quixote de la
Mancha, which is considered one of the best works of universal literature. Thus an enriching contribution
is made to the huge and varied catalogue of this prolific artist, who is well-known due to his
famous imagery works
José Braulio Amat and José María Martín.two contributions to the devotional engraving of the Temples San Nicolás de Bari and Santa María la Blanca of Seville
En este trabajo damos a conocer dos obras inéditas en la producción de los grabadores sevillanos José Braulio Amat y José María Martín. Se trata, en concreto, de dos grabados devocionales vinculados con los templos de San Nicolás de Bari y Santa María la Blanca de Sevilla. Pertenecen, respectivamente, a los siglos XVIII y XIX. El primero de ellos, de Amat, es una representación de la escultura lignaria del referido santo titular; el segundo, de Martín, reproduce el martirio de San Juan Nepomuceno tal como se venera en su capilla de la citada iglesia de Santa María la Blanca.In this paper we present two new works in the production of the sevillian engravers José Braulio Amat and José María Martín. It is, in particular, two devotional engravings related to the temples of San Nicolás de Bari and Santa María la Blanca of Seville. Belong respectively to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The first one, of Amat, is a representation of the sculpture of the referred titular saint; the second one, of Martín, reproduces the martyrdom of Saint John Nepomuk as it is venerated in its chapel of the church of Santa María la Blanca
Una Piedad flamenca de anónimo seguidor de Willem Key, antiguamente en colección particular onubense
En la Fototeca de la Universidad de Sevilla se conserva una imagen
en positivo que representa una Piedad, obra que según el archivo iconográfico
se encuentra en la Colección González de Zalamea la Real (Huelva) y está
atribuida a un pintor anónimo. En el presente artículo, tras las oportunas
investigaciones, ubicamos esta pintura en colección particular sevillana
atribuyendo la obra a un seguidor del pintor flamenco Willem Key, artista que
conoció los modelos que Quentin Metsys creó para esta iconografía, y fechamos
la pieza hacia el segundo tercio del siglo XVI.In the Photo Archives of Seville University there is a picture of a Pietá,
a painting attributed to an anonymous artist that, according to the iconographic
records, is in the González Collectios in Zalamea la Real (Huelva). In this
article, after the appropriate investigation, this painting is located in a private
collection of Seville, and is attributed to a follower of the Flemish painter
Willem Key, an artist who knew the models that Quentin Metsys created for
the iconography of the Pietá. We date the painting ca. the second third of the
XVIth century
La Cruz pectoral de la Virgen del Refugio de Sevilla
En este artículo documentamos, historiamos y analizamos la cruz pectoral
de la Virgen del Refugio de Sevilla, cotitular de la Hermandad de San Bernardo,
gubiada por Sebastián Santos Rojas en 1938. Se trata de la joya más preciada,
singular y significativa de esta efigie mariana hispalense. La cruz, compuesta
de diamantes y rubíes, fue montada en oro en el taller de Antonio González
Rosso (El Puerto de Santa María, 1907-Sevilla, 1962). Dicho engastador,
hermano de esta señera corporación penitencial sevillana, aportó los cincuenta
y cuatro rubíes y 20,47 gramos de oro, y sufragó el engaste de todas las piedras
y la hechura de tan bella presea. En 1962 fue entregada a la Hermandad por
su viuda, Justa Moreno Buenafé (Inogés (Zaragoza), 1927-Sevilla, 2011).A documental and historical analysis is made of Our Lady of Refugee’s
pectoral Cross, co-titular of Saint Bernard Confraternity in Seville; the image
of Our Lady was sculptured by Sebastian Santos Rojas in 1938. The pectoral
Cross is a precious work considered the most outstanding and significant jewel
of Our Lady of Refugee in Seville. The Cross, composed of diamonds and
rubies, was set in gold in the workshop of Antonio González Rosso (El Puerto
de Santa María: 1907 – Seville: 1962). This artist was a member of the
Confraternity of Our Lady of Refugee in Seville, and he donated 54 rubies and
20’47 grams of gold, and afforded the cost of manufacturing this jewel, too.
The Cross was given to the Confraternity by his widow Justa Moreno Buenafe
(Inoges, Zaragoza: 1927- Seville: 2011), in 1962
A St. Mary Magdalene by the circle of Jan van Dornicke or Master of 1518
En el presente artículo damos a conocer una nueva obra atribuible al círculo del Maestro de 1518, pintor flamenco que fue identificado con Jan van Dornicke. El catálogo de pinturas relacionadas con el entorno de este artista, activo en Amberes en el primer cuarto del siglo XVI, se ve aumentado con un nuevo ejemplar, conservado en una colección particular de Sevilla. Se trata de un óleo sobre tabla que representa a Santa María Magdalena. De esta forma sumamos una pieza más al numeroso conjunto de pinturas flamencas existentes en la capital de Andalucía.In this article we present a new work attributable to the circle of the Master of 1518, a Flemish painter who has been identified as Jan van Dornicke. The catalogue of paintings related to the circle of this artist, who was active in Antwerp in the first quarter of the sixteenth century, has been increased by the addition of a paintihg is new work, preserved in a private collection in Seville. The oil on wood depicting St. Mary Magdalene. Another work is thus added to the large set of Flemish paintings in the Andalusian capital
