    A Review of Ramifications and Implications Associated With the Involvement of People With Mental Illnesses in the Correctional System

    This research addresses the implications associated with the involvement of people with mental illnesses in the criminal justice system. The research focuses on the characteristics and implications that are attributed as a result of dealing with people with mental illness in correctional settings. A description of the potential of the mentally ill to be involved in disturbance incidents, confrontations, and even criminal activities is also provided. The research expresses the association between mental illness and violence. The research identifies some of the challenges of managing inmates with mental health disorders in correctional facilities and emphasizes the importance of providing mental health training to correctional staff in order to improve appropriate responses to those inmates that are detained or incarcerated. The research provides a description of how the operation of correctional facilities is affected by the presence of mentally ill offenders when there is a lack of appropriate responses by correctional staff. The research describes the recommendations from the Council of State Governments (2002) regarding the need for mental health training for correctional staff. An evaluation of the recommendations is provided to identify if such suggestions are appropriate when responding to the needs and problems created by the presence of the mentally ill in the correctional system

According to research, weather and crime have been found to have a significant correlation. This review essays advocates for further research regarding the correlation between weather and crime. The studies mentioned below, show evidence of a positive relationship between weather and crime. Studies of this nature are important baseline however, further research needs to be done to better enhance research resources for police departments

    The relationship between Mexican drug trafficking organizations and corruption in the Mexican criminal justice and political systems: a review essay

    This research addresses the implications associated with the illegal activities performed by drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) and the impact it creates on governmental institutions. The study focuses on M茅xico, the war on drugs, and the ramifications produced as a result of President Calderon鈥檚 strategy to combat drug trafficking and implement change. A description of different DTOs with their operations and illegal activities is also provided. The investigation outlines major implications of corruption from Mexican law enforcement, politicians, and other government officials that have been involved in cases of corruption and their link to DTOs. The research also expresses the implications created by Operation Fast and Furious conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF). An analysis is provided to consider the right to bear arms in M茅xico, and evaluation of President Calderon鈥檚 strategy to combat DTOs and organized crime is also described. Such strategy is analyzed and compared to the Systematic Approach to Program and Policy Development, a model for planned change presented by the criminal justice policy and planning commission
