Theworks of Arturo Ardao, from the beginning of the thirties until 1970, integrated a long series of books dealing with the history of ideas'in Uruguay and in the American continent. Theywere not only devoted to this epistemologrcal option but also to the more straightforward field of political and cultural intervention. Within this line in convergence with the former, more academic,so to speak, Ardao actively cooperated in periodical publications mainly in the weekly journal Marcha in Montevideo (1939- 1974). He was a fundamental piece in its organic structure, and in it he published articles and essays of a philosophical nature, most of which were later re-elaborated or compiled in renowned books, such as Spiritualism and Positivism in Uruguay. He also published political texts that, as presented in this paper, are a constitutive part of his work. In this respect, furthermore Ardao's thoughts and actions as manifested in Marcha contributed to build, in a wide spectrum, Uruguay's and Latin America's cultural field of the time.Fil: Rocca, Pablo

Through an examination of poetry anthologies, this is essay studies the dynamics of Uruguay's literary and cultural production within a national and international social and economic context. This entails a critical reappraisal of the stability of concepts such as nation, anthology and canon. The overview begins in the origin of the Uruguayan State and ends in the present. An appendix includes a bibliographical index of Uruguayan poetry anthologies, with a methodological introduction

The (reciprocal) familiarity and admiration which Rubén Darío felt towards Brazilian poetry and poets became clear in his two visits to Brazil (in 1906 and 1912) and in the poem he dedicated to Machado de Assis. However, it is strange that so little has been written about their acquaintance.

This essay intends to analyse Horacio Quiroga’s connection with cinema. This relation was developed not only in the field of cinema criticism but also creating scripts, as well as the influence the new art had on some of his tales. From 1918 the connection between cinema and theatre or cinema as a business usually appears on his texts

Competition between surface relaxation and ballistic deposition models in scale free networks

In this paper we study the scaling behavior of the fluctuations in the steady state WSW_S with the system size NN for a surface growth process given by the competition between the surface relaxation (SRM) and the Ballistic Deposition (BD) models on degree uncorrelated Scale Free networks (SF), characterized by a degree distribution P(k)kλP(k)\sim k^{-\lambda}, where kk is the degree of a node. It is known that the fluctuations of the SRM model above the critical dimension (dc=2d_c=2) scales logarithmically with NN on euclidean lattices. However, Pastore y Piontti {\it et. al.} [A. L. Pastore y Piontti {\it et. al.}, Phys. Rev. E {\bf 76}, 046117 (2007)] found that the fluctuations of the SRM model in SF networks scale logarithmically with NN for λ<3\lambda <3 and as a constant for λ3\lambda \geq 3. In this letter we found that for a pure ballistic deposition model on SF networks WSW_S scales as a power law with an exponent that depends on λ\lambda. On the other hand when both processes are in competition, we find that there is a continuous crossover between a SRM behavior and a power law behavior due to the BD model that depends on the occurrence probability of each process and the system size. Interestingly, we find that a relaxation process contaminated by any small contribution of ballistic deposition will behave, for increasing system sizes, as a pure ballistic one. Our findings could be relevant when surface relaxation mechanisms are used to synchronize processes that evolve on top of complex networks.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
