This piece is about an event that, give or take, happened to me. I write it to create awareness about graffiti as a legitimate sub-culture in our society. More importantly, I\u27d like to show some of the positive outlets for graffiti artists

Descriptive Study of a Healthy Weight Management Program For Overweight or Obese Children and Youth

    Get PDF
The rise in obesity among children and youth in the last 20 years is a public health concern. The prevalence of childhood obesity has multiplied worldwide in the last four decades (“The Heavy Burden of Obesity and the Economics of Prevention,” 2019). Obesity is a complex chronic disease in which abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat impairs health (Wharton et al., 2020). Childhood obesity can profoundly affect children\u27s physical health, social and emotional well-being, and self-esteem (Rankin et al., 2016 & Purnell et al., 2018). The problem is a lack of an occupation-based evaluation tool utilized to link occupational participation to health, well-being, and quality of life to improve occupational engagement for children and youth who are obese and overweight ages 8-16 (Benjamin Neelon et al., 2016; Gold et al., 2018., p. 308-309;J. Kugel et al., 2017; Pandita et al., 2016; Pizzi, 2016; Pizzi & Orloff, 2015; Pizzi & Vroman, 2013). The purpose of this qualitative research capstone project is to pilot the Pizzi Healthy Weight Management Assessment PHWMA on children and youth ages 8-16 to improve health, well-being, and Quality of life, and occupational engagement for youth who are overweight and obese. This study aimed to investigate health behaviors, well-being, occupational engagement, and overall quality of life and how the PHWMA along with the Six Modules Occupation Based Program for Healthy Behaviors, can change children and youth outlook on health behaviors.https://soar.usa.edu/otdcapstonesfall2021/1034/thumbnail.jp

Much-efficient and cost-effective manufacturing of antibody biotherapeutics employing integrated negative chromatography technology

    Get PDF
New approaches for fully connected and integrated downstream processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency are being assessed with the implementation of the NCAP Project (negative chromatography antibody purification). This project aims to resolve the manufacturing bottleneck facing modern antibody bio-therapeutics through exploring the great potential of the negative chromatography technology, i.e. purifying antibodies by binding all the surrounding impurities instead of binding target antibodies. High-throughput, miniaturised technologies have been implemented to enable the screening of multiple novel ligands based on a custom agarose backbone. The objectives are: (1) replace the conventional expensive and fragile protein-A affinity chromatography medium with inexpensive and more robust small-ligand-based media; (2) investigate novel downstream processes incorporating as many negative chromatography steps as possible to achieve much-efficient and capacity-unlimited manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals; (3) upstream and downstream process integration, and intensification by pushing the boundaries of the negative chromatography technology. This process is independent of the expression level in the upstream and should bring enormous potential cost benefits; providing a platform for truly continuous and integrated manufacturing processes, reducing hold times, enabling faster throughput and reducing the cost of raw materials

Acute effects of ingesting a commercial thermogenic drink on changes in energy expenditure and markers of lipolysis

Background: To determine the acute effects of ingesting a thermogenic drink (Celsius, Delray Beach, FL) (TD) on changes in metabolism and lipolysis. Methods: Healthy college-aged male (23.2 ± 4.0 y, 177.2 ± 6.1 cm, 81.7 ± 11.3 kg, 22.8 ± 7.3 % fat; n = 30) and female (23.4 ± 3.1 y, 165.6 ± 8.7 cm, 62.1 ± 9.9 kg, 28.3 ± 7.4 % fat; n = 30) participants were matched according to height and weight to consume 336 ml of the TD or a noncaloric, non-caffeinated placebo (PLA). After a 12 h fast, participants reported for pre-consumption measures of height, weight, heart rate, blood pressure, resting energy expenditure (REE), respiratory exchange ratio (RER), glycerol and free-fatty acid (FFA) concentrations. REE and RER were determined at 60, 120, and 180 min post-consumption. Serum glycerol and FFA concentrations were determined at 30, 60, 120 and 180 min post-consumption. Results: When compared to PLA, TD significantly increased REE at 60, 120 and 180 min (p < 0.05). FFA concentrations were significantly greater in TD compared to PLA at 30, 60, 120 and 180 min post-consumption (p < 0.05). No between-group differences were found in RER. Conclusion: Acute TD ingestion significantly increased REE, FFA and glycerol appearance. If sustained, these changes may help to promote weight loss and improve body composition; however, these findings are currently unknown as are the general safety and efficacy of prolonged consumption

Development and Examination of a Tool to Assess Score Report Quality

    Get PDF
The need for quality in score reporting practices is represented in the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (American Educational Research Association American Psychological Association National Council on Measurement in Education, 2014). The purpose of this study was to introduce a ratings-based instrument to assess the quality of score reports and examine the reliability of scores obtained. Quality criteria were derived from best-practices published within the literature (Hambleton and Zenisky, 2013). The rating scale was used to assess a sample of 40 English-language individual student score reports for K-12 accountability tests representing 42 states and five provinces in the United States and Canada. A two-facet generalizability study (i.e., sr x d x r) was completed with an overall reliability coefficient of G = 0.78. Application of the rating scale may provide a means to support empirical study of relationships between score report quality and stakeholder outcomes including interpretation, use, and impact
