Active Ageing in the Nordic Countries: Introduction
The year 2012 is designated as the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The aim of the year is to raise awareness of the position of older people in a manner where they can enjoy a better quality of life and still play an active role in society. There are good reasons for designating 2012 as such a year. The OECD has estimated that by the year 2050, more than 33% of men and 38% of women in the EU25 will be 60 years or older compared with 18% and 24%, respectively, for the year 2000. The European Statistical Office projects that by 2060, there will be only two people of working age (15–64) in the EU for every person aged over 65, compared with a ratio of 4 to 1 today. Keeping in mind that an increasing share of the youth between 15 and 30 are studying, the consequences of these figures are even more challenging. Many politicians are seriously concerned about financing of the pensions and welfare systems. Another concern is how to allocate sufficient healthcare personnel to give the ageing population a decent service. These challenges are good reasons for the EU to include “solidarity between generations” as an element in the activity of this year. This special issue on active ageing is a contribution from the Nordic Journal of Working Life Studies to the year of active ageing. The articles examine work and ageing from different angles and horizons of understanding. Together, the articles question some of the myths that exist on ageing and work and assess some of the actions being taken to keep older workers in employment. This issue is therefore an important contribution to the development of our understanding of active ageing and measures used to develop an active ageing policy (...

东道国真的受益于 IFDI(引进外商直接投资 )吗?

Do host countries really benefit from inward foreign direct investment?
It was with great interest that we read Perspective No. 84 addressing the impact of inward foreign direct investment (IFDI) on technological innovation and entrepreneurship. In that issue, Pathak, Laplume, and Xavier-Oliveira laid out arguments for and against IFDI. They suggested that we have, for far too long, extolled the benefits of IFDI for developing economies, without properly accounting for its costs. They noted that there are genuine concerns that we ought not to overlook, and that we should pay special attention to the impact of IFDI on local innovation and entrepreneurship. Understanding the relationship between IFDI and innovation is an important policy issue, as it can help inform whether, and how, IFDI can stimulate economic growth
TESTING FOR CORRECTNESS AND REBASELINING OF IMAGES
An image correctness testing system compares an expected image with an image generated at a device. The system transmits the expected image to the device. The system then analyzes the image that is generated at the device in order to determine a checksum of the image generated at the device. The system further compares the checksum of the image generated at the device with a checksum of the expected image and presents a difference to a user on a web interface. The system can then receive an input from the user to rebaseline the image generated at the device and/or the expected image. On receiving the user input, the system updates the checksum of the expected image equal to the checksum of the image generated at the device or vice versa
Collective Plasmonic-Molecular Modes in the Strong Coupling Regime
We demonstrate strong coupling between molecular excited states and surface
plasmon modes of a slit array in a thin metal film. The coupling manifests
itself as an anti-crossing behavior of the two newly formed polaritons. As the
coupling strength grows, a new mode emerges, which is attributed to long range
molecular interactions mediated by the plasmonic field. The new, molecular-like
mode repels the polariton states, and leads to an opening of energy gaps both
below and above the asymptotic free molecule energy.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, submitted to PR
