A Rock In The Sea
The Celtic culture pervades life in Cape Breton, though it has been seasoned with French, Irish and Aboriginal influences, and is just one of the unique features of the “rock in the sea”
The contribution of residential solar energy systems to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the borough of Queenscliffe
The Borough of Queenscliffe has identified the importance of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and aims to become a carbon zero municipality by 2020. For a house, suburb or town to become carbon neutral ideally it produces an equivalent amount of energy from renewable resources to that which it consumes. By increasing the number of solar systems, both photovoltaic (PV) and hot water, in the residential sector, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced. The number of solar systems located in the Borough of Queenscliffe has been estimated and a database of these systems has been created, including the size and panel orientation. The energy generated by each solar system, in addition to the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, has been calculated for an average year
The Airline Maintenance Mechanic Educational Infrastructure: Supply, Demand, and Evolving Industry Structure
There is an encroaching crisis in the supply and demand of aviation maintenance labor. This paper reports results of a survey of FAA-licensed A&P schools and a survey of airlines and major maintenance outsourcing firms. Results largely confirm general expectations. Further analysis found indications of an impending shakeout in the extant training infrastructure. Strategies centered on tapered vertical integration are offered as an admittedly imperfect industry-wide solution
Dual nationality and International Law in times of globalization. Challenges and opportunities for consular assistance and diplomatic protection in recent cases
This article studies the interaction of nationality and international law as it may apply to individuals caught in international disputes between states of which they are nationals. The objective of the article is to examine this problem through the lens of the figures of Consular Assistance and Diplomatic Protection. Regarding the methodology, the paper will be elaborated within the following structure. Part 1 will deal with the general concept of nationality at international law. Part 2 will examine “Consular Assistance”, its source, function and application. Part 3 will examine a separate and distinct facet of international law called “Diplomatic Protection” (as distinguished from “Diplomatic Immunity”) and its application to the protection of nationals as well as its weaknesses. Part 4, which develops the original value of this contribution, consist of an analysis of these particular protective measures within the context of particular cases so as to illustrate the weaknesses of these figures as protective of individuals, the limits of nationality as a shield for individuals caught up in international disputes and the almost “second-class” nature of dual nationality from an international law perspective. Part 5 as a conclusion will include some observations as to how states may improve the protections they can afford to their nationals abroad
Tras estudiar su naturaleza, requisitos y doctrina, efectivamente, el artículo argumenta a favor de la disponibilidad de este remedio como una opción para el gobierno colombiano para proteger a sus ciudadanos en este casoWhile International Humanitarian, Refugee and Human Rights Law are frequently resorted to in the search for remedies for human rights violations, the Public International Law remedy of Diplomatic Protection is often forgotten, perhaps because there are few cases fitting the legal requirements for that remedy. The Venezuelan expulsions and property confiscations in 2015 and 2017 of Colombian residents without due process and, frequently, with violence may provide a useful example of an appropriate case for Diplomatic Protection arising within the context of a forced expulsion of an identifiable nationality. The following article, result of a research project regarding international law enforceability, reviews the current law on Diplomatic Protection and, within the context of a factual survey of the treatment of Colombian nationals by Venezuela, undertakes an analysis as to whether the facts of the case in fact give rise to a remedy of Diplomatic Protection. Effectively, the article argues in favour of the availability of this remedy as an option for the Colombian governmen

Second-Hand Stress: Neurobiological Evidence for a Human Alarm Pheromone
Alarm pheromones are airborne chemical signals, released by an individual into the environment, which transmit warning of danger to conspecifics via olfaction. Using fMRI, we provide the first neurobiological evidence for a human alarm pheromone. Individuals showed activation of the amygdala in response to sweat produced by others during emotional stress, with exercise sweat as a control; behavioral data suggest facilitated evaluation of ambiguous threat
Assessment of Degradations/Defects and Maintenance of Administrative Primary and Secondary School Buildings of the City of Bafoussam, Cameroon
This paper reports the findings of a survey on assessment of degradations/defects and maintenance of administrative primary and secondary school buildings of the city of Bafoussam, Cameroon.
