Spectral averaging techniques for Jacobi matrices

Spectral averaging techniques for one-dimensional discrete Schroedinger operators are revisited and extended. In particular, simultaneous averaging over several parameters is discussed. Special focus is put on proving lower bounds on the density of the averaged spectral measures. These Wegner type estimates are used to analyze stability properties for the spectral types of Jacobi matrices under local perturbations

World Health Organisation test applied on Culicoides: a multicentric study

    Get PDF
The aim of this work is to organize a multicentric assay to compare susceptibilities of Culicoides populations to insecticides (i.e. C. imicola and C. obsoletus sensu stricto). The base line of the World Health Organisation test kit (WHO/VBC81.805) is to expose mosquitoes to papers impregnated with insecticides to detect the resistance of Anopheles (paludism vector) in the field. In a novel approach, the WHO test can be used on Culicoides to assess midges' susceptibility to insecticides. Information on the intrinsic susceptibilities to insecticides is required to assess correctly the existing (or new) formulations of insecticide. This multicentric assay will improve our capacity to experiment by networking and assess the population variability by comparing susceptibilities between different populations of Culicoides. Field-collected midges are trapped alive using an ultraviolet light trap (OVI model, South Africa) and replacing the collection jar with a fine mesh cage. To prevent desiccation, cages are covered with wet papers, wrapped in aluminium foil and retrieved at dawn. It is important to choose the site and period with abundant target species to improve robustness with more individuals. Experiments should be carried out in an insecticide-free environment with constant temperature and humidity, and started a few hours after collection. Insecticide-impregnated papers are rolled and fastened into the WHO kit test tube. About 30 Culicoides (approximately 20 nulliparous females) are collected and transferred to the tube. Tubes are maintained horizontally for an hour (exposure to insecticide). Mortalities are recorded 1 h and 24 h after exposure. One control is performed without insecticide to validate the test. Mortalities are analysed by probit regression to obtain LC50 and LC90 for each population. The test has to be run at least with four concentrations of insecticide, one control and four replicates with samples from the same population. Only nulliparous females are recorded. Insecticide concentrations are given in percentages (WHO standard). In this WHO test, the target species are C. imicola and C. obsoletus s.s., and the active ingredient used is deltamethrin at doses 0.005, 0.001, 0.0005 and 0.0001%. Data will be centralized and analysed by EID-Méditerranée (France), and results will be given back to the partners and published. Future studies could focus on comparing the four deltamethrin concentrations on other species and testing Culicoides susceptibility to other components. (Texte intégral

    Likelihood-based assessment of dynamic networks

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the problem of assessing probabilistic models that represent the evolution of a target graph. Such models have long been a topic of interest for a number of networks, especially communications networks. The solution developed in this paper gives a rigorous way to calculate the likelihood of the observed graph evolution having arisen from a wide variety of hypothesized models encompassing many already present in the literature. The framework is shown to recover parameters from artificial data and is tested on real data sets from Facebook and from emails from the company Enron

Detecting sudden variations in web apps code smells’ density: A longitudinal study

    Get PDF
Code smells are considered potentially harmful to software maintenance. Their introduction is dependent on the production of new code or the addition of smelly code produced by another team. Code smells survive until being refactored or the code where they stand is removed. Under normal conditions, we expect code smells density to be relatively stable throughout time. Anomalous (sudden) increases in this density are expected to hurt maintenance costs and the other way round. In the case of sudden increases, especially in pre-release tests in an automation server pipeline, detecting those outlier situations can trigger refactoring actions before releasing the new version. This paper presents a longitudinal study on the sudden variations in the introduction and removal of 18 server code smells on 8 PHP web apps, across several years. The study regards web applications but can be generalized to other domains, using other CS and tools. We propose a standardized detection criterion for this kind of code smell anomalies. Besides providing a retrospective view of the code smell evolution phenomenon, our detection approach, which is particularly amenable to graphical monitoring, can make software project managers aware of the need for enforcing refactoring actions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

ATRA mechanically reprograms pancreatic stellate cells to suppress matrix remodelling and inhibit cancer cell invasion

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a dismal survival rate. Persistent activation of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) can perturb the biomechanical homoeostasis of the tumour microenvironment to favour cancer cell invasion. Here we report that ATRA, an active metabolite of vitamin A, restores mechanical quiescence in PSCs via a mechanism involving a retinoic acid receptor beta (RAR-β)-dependent downregulation of actomyosin (MLC-2) contractility. We show that ATRA reduces the ability of PSCs to generate high traction forces and adapt to extracellular mechanical cues (mechanosensing), as well as suppresses force-mediated extracellular matrix remodelling to inhibit local cancer cell invasion in 3D organotypic models. Our findings implicate a RAR-β/MLC-2 pathway in peritumoural stromal remodelling and mechanosensory-driven activation of PSCs, and further suggest that mechanical reprogramming of PSCs with retinoic acid derivatives might be a viable alternative to stromal ablation strategies for the treatment of PDAC

Faktor-faktor yang Mempengaruhi Inflasi di Indonesia: Model Demand Pull Inflation

This studys aim is to analyze the effects of factors like money supplies, interbank interest rate (PUAB), crude oil price and season change factor (dummy) to the inflation rate in Indonesia. Using time series secondary monthly data during period 2001.1 2011.12, which is collected from several numbers of literatures and also used co-integration equation with error correction model (ECM) as researching tool, this study will analyze the relationship between independent variabel and dependent variabel in both long-run and short-run period. The estimation result of co-integration equation showed that money supplies, interbank interest rate (PUAB), and crude oil price significantly affected the Indonesian inflation rate in the long-run period, but season change factor (dummy) didnt. While the Error Corecction Model (ECM) which is considered valid because its significant error correction term (ECT) showed that only interbank interest rate (PUAB) which is significantly effected the inflation rate of Indonesia in short-term period, while money supplies, crude oil price and season change factor (dummy) didnt

Safe real-time optimization using multi-fidelity guassian processes

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a new class of real-time optimization schemes to overcome system-model mismatch of uncertain processes. This work's novelty lies in integrating derivative-free optimization schemes and multi-fidelity Gaussian processes within a Bayesian optimization framework. The proposed scheme uses two Gaussian processes for the stochastic system, one emulates the (known) process model, and another, the true system through measurements. In this way, low fidelity samples can be obtained via a model, while high fidelity samples are obtained through measurements of the system. This framework captures the system's behavior in a non-parametric fashion while driving exploration through acquisition functions. The benefit of using a Gaussian process to represent the system is the ability to perform uncertainty quantification in real-time and allow for chance constraints to be satisfied with high confidence. This results in a practical approach that is illustrated in numerical case studies, including a semi-batch photobioreactor optimization problem

Kategorisasi Dokumen Teks Secara Multi Label Menggunakan Fuzzy C-means Dan K-nearest Neighbors Pada Artikel Berbahasa Indonesia
