Previous honeycomb or capillary structures for the production of transparent insulation (TIM) systems were expensive due to the manufacturing process. For this reason this innovative insulation system has not been taken extensive application yet. A manufacturing process useful for a cost-saving mass production of capillary structures made of plastic is extrusion. But it was only possible to produce structures with a maximum of 6 layers 20 mm thick in irregularly shape. The aim of this project was to develop an extrusion technology for the production of honeycombed structure with a thickness of 40 to 50 #mu#m and a maximum amount of layers. Within the scope of the project a stabile process for production of honeycombed structures made of polycarbonate with 8 by 50 capillaries in a size of 226,7 by 37,7 mm was established. After cutting this structure in required length the segments can be sticked together to a sheet and then manufactured for production of different TIM daylight or solar wall systems.
