The Impact of Music on Language Acquisition
As the culture of the American elementary classroom continues to diversify, teachers’ practices must also evolve to best meet the needs of students, specifically, English Learners (ELs). This article encourages elementary educators to include music in their general education curriculum by highlighting the lack of music education in the classroom, which fuels the discussion for its need; discusses the historical use of language to support the impact of music on Kingergarten-6th grade speakers; and dissects the linguistic, cognitive, cultural, and social aspects of music, all of which have a positive impact on language use and development. Research findings suggest that music can have a positive impact on language acquisition by lowering students’ affective filter and making them feel more comfortable while also supporting language instruction and content learning, as well as capitalizing on the common origins between language and music. Through review of journal articles spanning several decades, the conclusions in this manuscript support the benefits of music in the general education classroom, thus encouraging teachers to implement music to both native and non-native English speakers

Cybersecurity Awareness Platform with Virtual Coach and Automated Challenge Assessment
Over the last years, the number of cyber-attacks on industrial control
systems has been steadily increasing. Among several factors, proper software
development plays a vital role in keeping these systems secure. To achieve
secure software, developers need to be aware of secure coding guidelines and
secure coding best practices. This work presents a platform geared towards
software developers in the industry that aims to increase awareness of secure
software development. The authors also introduce an interactive game component,
a virtual coach, which implements a simple artificial intelligence engine based
on the laddering technique for interviews. Through a survey, a preliminary
evaluation of the implemented artifact with real-world players (from academia
and industry) shows a positive acceptance of the developed platform.
Furthermore, the players agree that the platform is adequate for training their
secure coding skills. The impact of our work is to introduce a new automatic
challenge evaluation method together with a virtual coach to improve existing
cybersecurity awareness training programs. These training workshops can be

Simple assessment of spatio-temporal evolution of salt marshes ecological services
A number of previous research studies have addressed the enormous role played by biodiversity and ecosystems in human well-being and have placed particular emphasis on the consequences of the reduction or loss of these services. A handful of studies have implemented practical methodologies to quantify the variability of limiting factors leading to reductions in these ecological services. The aim of this article is to document the limited number of studies that have analyzed coastal ecosystem services and acknowledge the impacts of physical changes in habitat provision. In one example, it is clear that the maintenance of salt marshes depends on sedimentary supply and consequent morphological variability in spite of the fact that there is usually no recurrent integration of habitat time-space dynamics (sediment availability) during the quantification and monetization of marsh services (i.e., monetary valuation of salt marsh services). This means that one key challenge facing the analysis of salt marsh (or other ecosystem) services in a global climate context is to predict future value, based on past trends, while at the same time guaranteeing conservation. Research in this field has been very broad and so the use of long-term evolutionary datasets is proposed here to explain future habitat provision. An empirical approximation is also presented here that accounts for service provision and enables time-space analysis. When, Where, and How Nature Matters for Ecosystem Services: Challenges for the Next Generation of Ecosystem Service Models
Many decision-makers are looking to science to clarify how nature supports human well-being. Scientists\u27 responses have typically focused on empirical models of the provision of ecosystem services (ES) and resulting decision-support tools. Although such tools have captured some of the complexities of ES, they can be difficult to adapt to new situations. Globally useful tools that predict the provision of multiple ES under different decision scenarios have proven challenging to develop. Questions from decision-makers and limitations of existing decision-support tools indicate three crucial research frontiers for incorporating cutting-edge ES science into decision-support tools: (1) understanding the complex dynamics of ES in space and time, (2) linking ES provision to human well-being, and (3) determining the potential for technology to substitute for or enhance ES. We explore these frontiers in-depth, explaining why each is important and how existing knowledge at their cutting edges can be incorporated to improve ES decision-making tools
