An Analysis of Early Software Reliability Improvement Techniques
This research explores early life cycle software reliability prediction models or techniques to predict the reliability of software prior to writing code, and a method for increasing or improving the reliability of software products early in the development life cycle. Five prediction models and two development techniques are examined. Each model is statically analyzed in terms of availability of data early in the life cycle, ease of data collection, and whether data is currently collected. One model and the two techniques satisfied those requirements and are further analyzed for their ability to predict or improve software reliability. While the researchers offer no significant statistical results of the model\u27s ability to predict software reliability, important conclusions are drawn about the cost and time savings of using inspections as a means of improving software reliability. The results indicate that the current software development paradigm needs to be changed to use the Cleanroom Software Development Process for fixture software development. This proactive approach to developing reliable software saves development and testing costs. One obvious benefit of this research is that cost savings realized earlier in the software development cycle have a dramatic effect on making software development practices better and more efficient
Trapping of a random walk by diffusing traps
We present a systematic analytical approach to the trapping of a random walk
by a finite density rho of diffusing traps in arbitrary dimension d. We confirm
the phenomenologically predicted e^{-c_d rho t^{d/2}} time decay of the
survival probability, and compute the dimension dependent constant c_d to

Specific heat of MgB_2 after irradiation
We studied the effect of disorder on the superconducting properties of
polycrystalline MgB_2 by specific-heat measurements. In the pristine state,
these measurements give a bulk confirmation of the presence of two
superconducting gaps with 2 Delta 0 / k_B T_c = 1.3 and 3.9 with nearly equal
weights. The scattering introduced by irradiation suppresses T_c and tends to
average the two gaps although less than predicted by theory. We also found that
by a suitable irradiation process by fast neutrons, a substantial bulk increase
of dH_{c2}/dT at T_c can be obtained without sacrificing more than a few
degrees in T_c. The upper critical field of the sample after irradiation

How manipulating task constraints in small-sided and conditioned games shapes emergence of individual and collective tactical behaviours in football: A systematic review
Background:
Small-Sided and Conditioned Games are characterised by modifications of field dimensions, number of players, rules of the game, manipulations used to shape the key task constraints that performers need to satisfy in practice. Evidence has already demonstrated the importance of designing practice to enhance understanding of tactical behaviours in football, but there is a lack of information about how coaches can manipulate task constraints to support tactical learning.
Objective:
To investigate which task constraints have been most often manipulated in studies of SSCGs; and what impact each manipulation had on emerging tactical behaviours, technicalâtactical actions, and positional relationships between players.
Methods:
PubMed, Web of Science, Scielo, and Academic Google databases were searched for relevant reports without time limits. The criteria adopted for inclusion were: a) studies performed with football players; b) studies that included SSCGs as an evaluation method; c) studies that investigated tactical behaviours in SSCGs; and d), articles in English and Portuguese.
Results:
The electronic database search included 24 articles in the review. Of these, five manipulated field dimensions, six manipulated number of players involved, five manipulated field dimensions and number of players, five used different scoring targets, two altered the number of players and scoring target, and one manipulated the number of players, field dimension, and scoring target.
Conclusion:
Among the task constraints analyzed in this systematic review, manipulation of number of players and playing field dimensions concomitantly occurred most frequentl

Safety Profile of L-Arginine Infusion in Moderately Severe Falciparum Malaria
BACKGROUND: L-arginine infusion improves endothelial function in malaria but its safety profile has not been described in detail. We assessed clinical symptoms, hemodynamic status and biochemical parameters before and after a single L-arginine infusion in adults with moderately severe malaria. METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS: In an ascending dose study, adjunctive intravenous L-arginine hydrochloride was infused over 30 minutes in doses of 3 g, 6 g and 12 g to three separate groups of 10 adults hospitalized with moderately severe Plasmodium falciparum malaria in addition to standard quinine therapy. Symptoms, vital signs and selected biochemical measurements were assessed before, during, and for 24 hours after infusion. No new or worsening symptoms developed apart from mild discomfort at the intravenous cannula site in two patients. There was a dose-response relationship between increasing mg/kg dose and the maximum decrease in systolic (Ïâ=â0.463; Spearman's, pâ=â0.02) and diastolic blood pressure (râ=â0.42; Pearson's, pâ=â0.02), and with the maximum increment in blood potassium (râ=â0.70, p<0.001) and maximum decrement in bicarbonate concentrations (râ=â0.53, pâ=â0.003) and pH (râ=â0.48, pâ=â0.007). At the highest dose (12 g), changes in blood pressure and electrolytes were not clinically significant, with a mean maximum decrease in mean arterial blood pressure of 6 mmHg (range: 0â11; p<0.001), mean maximal increase in potassium of 0.5 mmol/L (range 0.2â0.7 mmol/L; p<0.001), and mean maximal decrease in bicarbonate of 3 mEq/L (range 1â7; p<0.01) without a significant change in pH. There was no significant dose-response relationship with blood phosphate, lactate, anion gap and glucose concentrations. All patients had an uncomplicated clinical recovery. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Infusion of up to 12g of intravenous L-arginine hydrochloride over 30 minutes is well tolerated in adults with moderately severe malaria, with no clinically important changes in hemodynamic or biochemical status. Trials of adjunctive L-arginine can be extended to phase 2 studies in severe malaria. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT0014736
Occurrence and mass development of Mougeotia Spp. (Zygnemataceae) in large, deep lakes
Over the last decades, mass developments by the filamentous conjugating green alga Mougeotia have been followed in three large peri-alpine lakes(Lake Geneva, Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore) and in the sub-tropical Lake Kinneret. The aim of this study is to highlight annual and interannual patterns of Mougeotia biomass in the studied lakes and select key environmental parameters that may favour and maintain its mass development. Our results confirm former studies that planktic Mougeotia favours meso-oligotrophic conditions and becomes dominant when annual mean total phosphorus concentrations in the epilimnion fall below 20 ?gl-1. This triggering factor has effect with interactions of other environmental circumstances such as the water column stability. Physiological and morphological features of the taxon make it a successful competitor under stratified conditions. Results also showed that in three out of the four studied lakes, the annual peak was higher when the annual population development started earlier. Focusing on Lake Geneva, depth and strength of the thermocline, as well as wind speed in the beginning of summer that can cause nutrient replenishment and mix the epilimnion are key factors in the blooming of the taxon
The SINS/zC-SINF survey of z~2 galaxy kinematics: Outflow properties
Based on SINFONI Ha, [NII] and [SII] AO data of 30 z \sim 2 star-forming
galaxies (SFGs) from the SINS and zcSINF surveys, we find a strong correlation
of the Ha broad flux fraction with the star formation surface density of the
galaxy, with an apparent threshold for strong outflows occurring at 1 Msun
yr^-1 kpc^-2. Above this threshold, we find that SFGs with logm_\ast>10 have
similar or perhaps greater wind mass loading factors (eta = Mdotout/SFR) and
faster outflow velocities than lower mass SFGs. This trend suggests that the
majority of outflowing gas at z \sim 2 may derive from high-mass SFGs, and that
the z \sim 2 mass-metallicity relation is driven more by dilution of enriched
gas in the galaxy gas reservoir than by the efficiency of outflows. The mass
loading factor is also correlated with the SFR and inclination, such that more
star-forming and face-on galaxies launch more powerful outflows. For galaxies
that have evidence for strong outflows, we find that the broad emission is
spatially extended to at least the half-light radius (\sim a few kpc). We
propose that the observed threshold for strong outflows and the observed mass
loading of these winds can be explained by a simple model wherein break-out of
winds is governed by pressure balance in the disk. Using the ratio of the [SII]
doublet in a broad and narrow component, we find that outflowing gas has a
density of \sim10-100 cm^-3, significantly less than that of the star forming
