Muralidhar et al. point out that when the VR-APA is applied in echo cancellation it will diverge during the presence of a near-end signal or a silence period. We provide an explanation for the behavior of the algorithm and show that a double-talk detector makes the VR-APA suitable for this application.Fil: Rey, Hernan Gonzalo. Impact of working capital management on profitability for Spanish fish canning companies
Credit restrictions, such as those happening in the current context shaped by the crisis derived from COVID-19, make working capital management (WCM) a driving force behind SME performance. This paper analyses whether WCM policies affect the economic and financial profitability of Spanish companies in the fish canning industry. Spain leads the EU’s production of canned seafood and the seafood industry is a key sector for the Spanish economy. To assess the WCM-profitability relationship, we applied a dynamic panel data methodology in a sample consisting of 377 companies during the period 2010–2018. We can conclude that the economic profitability of fish canning companies is related to the collection period (Days Sales Outstanding or DSO) and the inventory conversion period (Days Inventory Outstanding or DIO). Moreover, empirical evidence reveals the existence of an optimal level of receivables that balances the benefits of increasing sales and the opportunity costs of customer funding. The findings also identify a convex relationship between investment in inventory and economic profitabilityS
Application of optical coherence tomography in investigating cell migration
Chemotaxis and cell migration are important processes for life, involved in organism development and homeostasis and implicated in a number of disease states. Dictyostelium discoideum, an amoeba, is a useful model for investigation of chemotaxis and development, due to its ability to undergo chemotactic aggregation and development upon starvation. Although cell migration has been well described on planar transparent surfaces, it is uncertain how well these conditions replicate the natural environment of a cell. However, attempts to better replicate these environments generally make use of opaque substrates and 3D matrices, in which it is more challenging to image cell migration. Protocols were developed to enable optical coherence tomography, a 3D structural imaging technique which requires no sample processing or staining, to be successfully employed in imaging Dictyostelium cell migration in time-lapse on non-transparent substrata and within an agarose gel. I compared the effects of two substrates, a nitrocellulose filter and a polystyrene Petri dish on aggregating cells and found differences in speed but not persistence. Extension of this to include cells within agarose revealed that these cells exhibited less directed migration, but their velocity was unaffected. I showed that cells lacking myosin II failed to complete development within an agarose gel and had significantly reduced velocity and directional migration when compared to their parent strain. Furthermore, the velocities of cells migrating within agarose gel were bimodally distributed, potentially indicating two distinct cell populations, fast and slow, and fast movement was shown to be largely myosin II dependent. Great potential therefore exists for cell-substrate and cell-matrix interactions to affect the migration character of cells, even those, such as Dictyostelium, which do not form strong focal adhesions. Moreover a properly ordered cytoskeleton is implicated in enabling cells to effectively utilise different modes of cell motility
El personaje de la intermediaria en la literatura hebrea medieval escrita en Sefarad
Discussion of the character of the female matchmaker (šadkanÄ«t) and her qualities in medieval Hebrew Literature of the Peninsula. Reference is made to three matchÂmakers: 1) KozbĂ®, in the book Minḥaṯ YÄ•hĂ»dâ, ‛sĂ´ne’ ha-našîm, by Yehudah Ibn Ĺ abbatay, 2) Ĺšiáąnâ in Al-Ḥarizi's sixth maqama, 3) The demonic woman, The Laundress, in Josef Ibn Zabarra's Sefer Ĺ a‛ašu‛îm. They are considered literary precedents of the Castilian matchmakers Trotaconventos and Celestina.Se presenta en este artĂculo la figura de la intermediaria (šadkanÄ«t) en la literatura hebrea medieval escrita en la PenĂnsula IbĂ©rica. Promotion and analysis of sleep in adolescents in public health
Sleep disorders are becoming more frequent in modern society. When it comes to adolescents this is due in part to factors like the use of electronic devices, stress or substance abuse which deteriorates normal sleep patterns. Disruptions in their biologic clocks are usually manifested by symptoms such as lack of attention, fatigue, sleepiness, mood changes or lower academic performance. Bad sleep quality can lead to health problems like cognitive, metabolic and hormonal alterations and risk of developing cardiovascular and mental diseases.
Adolescents go through different changes at bio-psico-social levels in this developmental stage: puberty, search of their own identity, the need to belong in a group, physiological changes like a delay in the time of going to sleep. It is a phase where the feeling of revelry, intimacy and exploration of rules and limits can affect in a positive or negative way their lifestyle. Supporting the adolescent is essential to build a correct adaptation to the environment and the numerous changes in their life. Teaching them healthy habits and routines that even make them consider the benefits of a quality sleep when their brain and bosy is still developing will improve their quality of life.
We already know about many of the consequences stress has on our body and bad sleep exposes our body to an amount of stress that, if chronic, will generate health problems in the future. These are the reasons why it is crucial to involve nurses in Primary Healthcare to promote good sleep hygiene and inform population about the value of such a primal necessity for the adequate functioning of a person. Sleep is as important as eating or breathingGrado en EnfermerĂ
The influence of sociability over non-mortgage debt
In recent years, especially after the recent economic downturn, household debt has increased in importance, due to its influence on the economy in general and on households’ wellbeing in particular. Therefore, the study of household debt turns out to be necessary in order to know what leads to its demand, and thus to avoid situations of over-indebtedness. In this regard, previous research has analysed debt decisions from different approaches, however, the effect of individuals’ sociability has been neglected in literature.
To this end, the aim of this paper is to analyse the effect of sociability on the Europeans’ decision to incur non-mortgage debt. The study sample, taken from the sixth wave (year 2015) of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe, consists of 68,231 people from 18 European countries and also Israel. After applying probit binomial models, empirical evidence confirms the non-negligible effect of sociability on households’ non-mortgage debts. However, this effect depends on the underlying mechanisms through which sociability operates. Thus, when the sociability variable reflects learning based on the transmission of information (or 'word of mouth'), its influence over non-mortgage debt is positive, whereas when sociability reflects learning based on observation, the effect is negativeS
