A to be - to have problem in teenagers. A chapter from the study of orientation in life styles

    Get PDF
The article discusses our empirical studies of the orientation to the problem TO BE - TO HAVE of teenagers. The structure and forming factors are presented. It turns out that this structure is inconsistent: while there dominates only positive emotional attitude towards the orientation TO BE, it does not have its equivalent in the other structural components: the cognitive and active components. The hesitating orientations are the most popular. It results from our present study that the degree to which the orientation to the problem TO - TO HAVE is formed, strongly depends on the sex, type of school and, to some degree, devotion

“Project: My Class”: Neoliberal Vision of the Teaching Profession

    No full text
The subject of the article covers issues related to the presence of neoliberal educational messages in school practice. The study contains an analysis of the teacher’s narrative, the purpose of which was to identify and describe elements that fit into neoliberal assumptions of education. The reconstruction of everyday school life (micro level) enabled the manifestations of instrumentalisation of education, rivalry and competitive aspects in the teacher’s work and the practice of forming homo oeconomicus at school. Commodification of an individual in free market conditions is reflected in a profit-maximizing school, i.e., achieving high results in external examinations owing to an educational process organized effectively, and minimizing costs by, for example, selecting students and by eliminating the “maladjusted” from schools. In the text, I outline a portrait of a teacher functioning professionally, who builds his profession on the foundation of neoliberal assumptions about education. I analyze the teacher’s understanding of school education, which is present in the teacher’s narratives, as a space for a specific market game and competition, defining the effectiveness of school work by high level of students’ examination results and the original concept of working with a supervised class reduced to the implementation of a business project

Wprowadzenie. Materiały i metody. Autorki dokonują przeglądu teoretycznego na podstawie literatury przedmiotu. Wnioski. Introduction. This article deals with the issue of the presence of electronic media in the development of speech and communication of a small child. The discussion pays special attention to the role of the social environment while modeling a child’s first digital experiences. Among other things, the article refers to the assumptions of Albert Bandura’s social learning theory. The article also describes tips and practical measures worth taking to stimulate the child’s cognitive development and, as a result, speech and communication development. The benefits and threats to the child’s cognitive development resulting from the presence of electronic media in this process were also analyzed. Aim. The aim of the article was a theoretical analysis of the child’s speech and communication development in the context of the media’s presence in this process. Methods. The authors carry out a theoretical review based on the literature on the subject. Conclusions. A critical look at the presence of media in family life makes it possible to identify both the threats and benefits resulting from this factor in the development of the child’s speech and communication. Therefore, the role of parents and guardians becomes important as models who will moderate and indicate the ways and forms of media use by the child, adapting them to the child’s current stage of development

Plasma untargeted metabolomics with proteinase K discloses phospholipid signature associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension

Abstract Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a rare but life-threatening and clinically heterogeneous disease. The diagnostic schedule of this disorder is complex, and no specific indicator of the arterial etiology has been explored. In this study, untargeted plasma metabolomics was applied to evaluate the metabolic fingerprints of pulmonary arterial hypertension patients. Plasma samples were prepared using a new approach, which applies proteinase K during the sample preparation procedure to increase the metabolite coverage. The metabolic fingerprints were determined via LC–MS and subsequently analyzed with the use of both uni- and multivariate statistics. A total of 21 metabolites were discovered to be significantly altered in pulmonary arterial hypertensive patients. The metabolites were mainly related to the phospholipid metabolic pathways. In this study, decreases were found in the phosphatidylcholines (PCs) [PC(32:0), PC(40:7), PC(42:7)], phosphatidylethanolamine PE(18:0/18:2), lysophosphatidylethanolamines (LPEs) [LPE(22:6), LPE(18:2), LPE(18:0), LPE(20:4), LPE(20:1), LPE(20:0)], lysophosphatidylcholine LPC(20:4) and lysophosphatidylserine LPS(19:0), as well as increase of sphingomyelin SM(36:2), in the plasma samples of pulmonary arterial hypertensive patients in comparison to the control group. Besides their function as components of the biological membranes, these metabolites are also involved in the intracellular signaling pathways that are related to cell proliferation and apoptosis. The results obtained during this study confirm the potential of (untargeted) metabolomics to identify the molecular characteristics of the pathophysiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension. The clinical relevance of this study constitutes the selection of a metabolic panel that can potentially detect and properly diagnose the disease
