    Superconformal Actions in Killing Gauge

    Get PDF
The classical superconformal actions of branes in adS superspaces have a closed form depending on a matrix M2M^2 quadratic in fermions, as found in hep-th/9805217. One can gauge-fix the local κ\kappa-symmetry using the Killing spinors of the brane in the bulk. We show that in such gauges the superconformal actions are simplified dramatically since M2=0M^2=0 in all cases. The relation between classical and gauge-fixed actions for these theories reflects the relation between the full superconformal algebra and its supersolvable subalgebra.Comment: 9 pages, Late

    Φ4\Phi^4 theory is trivial

We prove that the Φ4\Phi^4 theory is trivial for any values of the bare coupling constant λ\lambda thus extending previous results referring to very strong couplings to the full range of values for this parameter. The method is based on all order properties of the partition and two point functions in the path integral formalism.Comment: 4 page

About the mass corrections in an abelian Higgs model

We study the corrections to the scalar boson mass in an abelian Higgs model by considering the global properties of the partition function. We find that although the two point function for the Higgs boson receives quantum corrections, the mass of the scalar remains unaltered and thus the physical mass is equal to the bare one.Comment: 5 page

An Update on Perturbative N=8 Supergravity

According to the recent pure spinor analysis of the UV divergences by Karlsson, there are no divergent 1PI structures beyond 6 loops in D=4 N=8 supergravity. In combination with the common expectation that the UV divergences do not appear at less than 7 loops, this may imply that the 4-point amplitude in D=4 N=8 supergravity is all-loop finite. This differs from the result of the previous studies of pure spinors, which suggested that there is a UV divergence at 7 loops in D=4. Therefore an independent investigation of the pure spinor formalism predictions is desirable, as well as continuation of explicit loop computations. In the meantime, we revisit here our earlier arguments on UV finiteness of N=8 supergravity based on the absence of the off-shell light-cone superspace counterterms, as well as on the E_{7(7)} current conservation. We believe that both arguments remain valid in view of the developments in this area during the last few years.Comment: 8 page

From BPS to Non-BPS Black Holes Canonically

We describe the ``action-angle'' integrable system underlying the structure of double-extremal black holes. This implies the existence of a canonical transformation from BPS to non-BPS black holes. We give examples of such canonical transformation for STU and for E(7(7))-invariant black holesComment: 12 page

Higgs boson mass from gauge invariant operators

We make the assumption that the vacuum correlators of the gauge invariant kinetic term of the Higgs doublet are the same before and after the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the theory. Based on this we determine the mass of the standard model Higgs boson at mh≈125.07m_h \approx 125.07 GeV by considering one loop and the most relevant two loop corrections. This result might suggest that there is a single Higgs boson doublet that contributes to the electroweak symmetry breaking.Comment: typos fixed, more explanations adde

    Worldvolume Supersymmetry

    Get PDF
A general set of rules is given how to convert a local kappa-symmetry of a brane action and space-time supersymmetry into the global supersymmetry of the worldvolume. A Killing spinor adapted gauge for quantization of kappa-symmetry is defined for this purpose. As an application of these rules we perform the gauge-fixing of the M-5-brane to get the theory of the (0, 2) tensor supermultiplet in d=6.Comment: 10 pages, Late

    Dual Waves

    Get PDF
We study the gravitational waves in the 10-dimensional target space of the superstring theory. Some of these waves have unbroken supersymmetries. They consist of Brinkmann metric and of a 2-form field. Sigma-model duality is applied to such waves. The corresponding solutions we call dual partners of gravitational waves, or dual waves. Some of these dual waves upon Kaluza-Klein dimensional reduction to 4 dimensions become equivalent to the conformo-stationary solutions of axion-dilaton gravity. Such solutions include dilaton extreme black holes, axion-dilaton Israel-Werner-Perjes-type spacetimes and extreme charged axion-dilaton Taub-Nut solutions. The unbroken supersymmetry of the gravitational waves transfers to the unbroken supersymmetry of axion-dilaton IWP solutions. More general supersymmetric 4-dimensional configurations derivable from 10-dimensional waves are described.Comment: 23 pages, LaTeX, preprint SU-ITP-94-18, Contribution to Berezin Memorial volum

    A nonperturbative method for QCD

Based on specific properties of the partition function and of the quantum correlators we derive the exact form of the beta function in the background gauge field method for QCD with an arbitrary number of flavors. The all order beta function we obtain through this method has only the first two orders coefficients different than zero and thus is equivalent to the 't Hooft scheme.Comment: 8 page

    Matter-coupled de Sitter Supergravity

De Sitter supergravity describes interaction of supergravity with general chiral and vector multiplets as well as one nilpotent chiral multiplet. The extra universal positive term in the potential due to the nilpotent multiplet, corresponding to the anti-D3 brane in string theory, supports de Sitter vacua in these supergravity models. In the flat space limit these supergravity models include the Volkov-Akulov model with a non-linearly realized supersymmetry. The rules for constructing pure de Sitter supergravity action are generalized here in presence of other matter multiplets. We present a strategy to derive the complete closed form general supergravity action with a given Kahler potential KK, superpotential WW and vector matrix fABf_{AB} interacting with a nilpotent chiral multiplet. It has the potential V=eK(∣F2∣+∣DW∣2−3∣W∣2)V=e^K(|F^2 |+ |DW|^2 - 3 |W|^2), where FF is a necessarily non-vanishing value of the auxiliary field of the nilpotent multiplet. De Sitter vacua are present under simple condition that ∣F2∣−3∣W∣2>0|F^2|- 3|W|^2>0. A complete explicit action in the unitary gauge is presented.Comment: 14 page
