Cross-chain between a Parent Chain and Multiple Side Chains

In certain Blockchain systems, multiple Blockchains are required to operate cooperatively for security, performance, and capacity considerations. This invention defines a cross-chain mechanism where a main Blockchain issues the tokens, which can then be transferred and used in multiple side Blockchains to drive their operations. A set of witnesses are created to securely manage the token exchange across the main chain and multiple side chains. The system decouples the consensus algorithms between the main chain and side chains. We also discuss the coexistence of the main tokens and the native tokens in the side chains.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure

Transmission of doughnut light through a bull's eye structure

We experimentally investigate the extraordinary optical transmission of doughnut light through a bull's eye structure. Since the intensity is vanished in the center of the beam, almost all the energy reaches the circular corrugations (not on the hole), excite surface plasmons which propagate through the hole and reradiate photons. The transmitted energy is about 57 times of the input energy on the hole area. It is also interesting that the transmitted light has a similar spatial shape with the input light although the diameter of the hole is much smaller than the wavelength of light.Comment: 3 pages,4 figure

Danshen-Chuanxiong-Honghua Ameliorates Cerebral Impairment and Improves Spatial Cognitive Deficits after Transient Focal Ischemia and Identification of Active Compounds.

Previously, we only apply a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Danshen-Chuanxiong-Honghua (DCH) for cardioprotection via anti-inflammation in rats of acute myocardial infarction by occluding coronary artery. Presently, we select not only DCH but also its main absorbed compound ferulic acid (FA) for cerebra protection via similar action of mechanism above in animals of the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). We investigated whether oral administration of DCH and FA could ameliorate MCAO-induced brain lesions in animals. By using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), we analyzed four compounds, including tanshinol, salvianolic acid B, hydroxysafflor yellow A and especially FA as the putative active components of DCH extract in the plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and injured hippocampus of rats with MCAO. In our study, it was assumed that FA played a similar neuroprotective role to DCH. We found that oral pretreatment with DCH (10 or 20 g/kg) and FA (100 mg/kg) improved neurological function and alleviated the infarct volume as well as brain edema in a dose-dependent manner. These changes were accompanied by improved ischemia-induced apoptosis and decreased the inflammatory response. Additionally, chronic treatment with DCH reversed MCAO-induced spatial cognitive deficits in a manner associated with enhanced neurogenesis and increased the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in lesions of the hippocampus. These findings suggest that DCH has the ability to recover cognitive impairment and offer neuroprotection against cerebral ischemic injury via inhibiting microenvironmental inflammation and triggering of neurogenesis in the hippocampus. FA could be one of the potential active compounds

Conductance spectra of metallic nanotube bundles

We report a first principles analysis of electronic transport characteristics for (n,n) carbon nanotube bundles. When n is not a multiple of 3, inter-tube coupling causes universal conductance suppression near Fermi level regardless of the rotational arrangement of individual tubes. However, when n is a multiple of 3, the bundles exhibit a diversified conductance dependence on the orientation details of the constituent tubes. The total energy of the bundle is also sensitive to the orientation arrangement only when n is a multiple of 3. All the transport properties and band structures can be well understood from the symmetry consideration of whether the rotational symmetry of the individual tubes is commensurate with that of the bundle

Dataset Obfuscation: Its Applications to and Impacts on Edge Machine Learning

Obfuscating a dataset by adding random noises to protect the privacy of sensitive samples in the training dataset is crucial to prevent data leakage to untrusted parties for edge applications. We conduct comprehensive experiments to investigate how the dataset obfuscation can affect the resultant model weights - in terms of the model accuracy, Frobenius-norm (F-norm)-based model distance, and level of data privacy - and discuss the potential applications with the proposed Privacy, Utility, and Distinguishability (PUD)-triangle diagram to visualize the requirement preferences. Our experiments are based on the popular MNIST and CIFAR-10 datasets under both independent and identically distributed (IID) and non-IID settings. Significant results include a trade-off between the model accuracy and privacy level and a trade-off between the model difference and privacy level. The results indicate broad application prospects for training outsourcing in edge computing and guarding against attacks in Federated Learning among edge devices.Comment: 6 page

Influence of unsymmetrical periodicity on extraordinary transmission through periodic arrays of subwavelength holes

    Get PDF
Quadrate hole array is explored to study the influence of unsymmetrical periodicity on extraordinary optical transmission through periodic arrays of subwavelength holes. It is found that the transmission efficiency of light and the ratio between transmission efficiencies of horizontal and vertical polarized light can be continuously tuned by rotating the quadrate hole array. We can calculate out the transmission spectra (including the heights and locations of peaks) for any rotation angle θ\theta with a simple theoretical model.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
