Chinese Manufacturing Performance from Multilateral Perspective: 1980-2004
Based on our research work of 1998, we discuss Chinese manufacturing performance from multilateral perspective in 1980-2004 through performing the comparison of labour productivity between China and its trade partners so as to better understand the problems of RMB exchange rate. We talk about Chinese manufacturing competitiveness through the multilateral comparison of PPPs, relative price levels, labor productivity and ULCs, with the PPPs being standardized according to the base year 1997. All of the results are compared with those in the year 1987. The following findings are presented: in Chinese manufacturing, the various PPPs in the base year 1997 are approximately 3.7 yuan/international $. After the middle 1980s, the relative price turns the lowest in all the five investigation countries. Furthermore, it is still trending downward. ULC is declining albeit the fluctuations. In the 1980s, there is no "catch-up" rapid growth in labor productivity. However, after 1992, it has shown a distinct "catch-up", though with the low level.Multilateral comparison, Manufacturing, International competitiveness
Active Cyber Defense Dynamics Exhibiting Rich Phenomena
The Internet is a man-made complex system under constant attacks (e.g.,
Advanced Persistent Threats and malwares). It is therefore important to
understand the phenomena that can be induced by the interaction between cyber
attacks and cyber defenses. In this paper, we explore the rich phenomena that
can be exhibited when the defender employs active defense to combat cyber
attacks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that shows that
{\em active cyber defense dynamics} (or more generally, {\em cybersecurity
dynamics}) can exhibit the bifurcation and chaos phenomena. This has profound
implications for cyber security measurement and prediction: (i) it is
infeasible (or even impossible) to accurately measure and predict cyber
security under certain circumstances; (ii) the defender must manipulate the
dynamics to avoid such {\em unmanageable situations} in real-life defense
operations.Comment: Proceedings of 2015 Symposium on the Science of Security (HotSoS'15
Multiple Superconducting Gaps, Anisotropic Spin Fluctuations and Spin-Orbit Coupling in Iron-Pnictides
This article reviews the NMR and NQR studies on iron-based high-temperature
superconductors by the IOP/Okayama group. It was found that the electron pairs
in the superconducting state are in the spin-singlet state with multiple
fully-opened energy gaps. The antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the normal
state are found to be closely correlated with the superconductivity. Also the
antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are anisotropic in the spin space, which is
different from the case in copper oxide superconductors. This anisotropy
originates from the spin-orbit coupling and is an important reflection of the
multiple-bands nature of this new class of superconductors.Comment: 20 pages, 16 figure
