    The branch processes of vortex filaments and Hopf Invariant Constraint on Scroll Wave

    In this paper, by making use of Duan's topological current theory, the evolution of the vortex filaments in excitable media is discussed in detail. The vortex filaments are found generating or annihilating at the limit points and encountering, splitting, or merging at the bifurcation points of a complex function Z(x⃗,t)Z(\vec{x},t). It is also shown that the Hopf invariant of knotted scroll wave filaments is preserved in the branch processes (splitting, merging, or encountering) during the evolution of these knotted scroll wave filaments. Furthermore, it also revealed that the "exclusion principle" in some chemical media is just the special case of the Hopf invariant constraint, and during the branch processes the "exclusion principle" is also protected by topology.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

    Theory of control of spin/photon interface for quantum networks

    A cavity coupling a charged nanodot and a fiber can act as a quantum interface, through which a stationary spin qubit and a flying photon qubit can be inter-converted via cavity-assisted Raman process. This Raman process can be controlled to generate or annihilate an arbitrarily shaped single-photon wavepacket by pulse-shaping the controlling laser field. This quantum interface forms the basis for many essential functions of a quantum network, including sending, receiving, transferring, swapping, and entangling qubits at distributed quantum nodes as well as a deterministic source and an efficient detector of a single photon wavepacket with arbitrarily specified shape and average photon number. Numerical study of noise effects on the operations shows high fidelity.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Distributed Adaptive Attitude Synchronization of Multiple Spacecraft

    This paper addresses the distributed attitude synchronization problem of multiple spacecraft with unknown inertia matrices. Two distributed adaptive controllers are proposed for the cases with and without a virtual leader to which a time-varying reference attitude is assigned. The first controller achieves attitude synchronization for a group of spacecraft with a leaderless communication topology having a directed spanning tree. The second controller guarantees that all spacecraft track the reference attitude if the virtual leader has a directed path to all other spacecraft.     Stabilized hot electron bolometer heterodyne receiver at 2.5 THz

    We report on a method to stabilize a hot electron bolometer (HEB) mixer at 2.5 THz. The technique utilizes feedback control of the local oscillator (LO) laser power by means of a swing-arm actuator placed in the optical beam path. We demonstrate that this technique yields a factor of 50 improvement in the spectroscopic Allan variance time which is shown to be over 30 s in a 12 MHz noise fluctuation bandwidth. Furthermore, broadband signal direct detection effects may be minimized by this technique. The technique is versatile and can be applied to practically any local oscillator at any frequency

    Topological Aspect of Knotted Vortex Filaments in Excitable Media

    Scroll waves exist ubiquitously in three-dimensional excitable media. It's rotation center can be regarded as a topological object called vortex filament. In three-dimensional space, the vortex filaments usually form closed loops, and even linked and knotted. In this letter, we give a rigorous topological description of knotted vortex filaments. By using the Ï•\phi-mapping topological current theory, we rewrite the topological current form of the charge density of vortex filaments and use this topological current we reveal that the Hopf invariant of vortex filaments is just the sum of the linking and self-linking numbers of the knotted vortex filaments. We think that the precise expression of the Hopf invariant may imply a new topological constraint on knotted vortex filaments.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, Accepted by Chin. Phys. Let
