TELEADAPT-SOCINF: un espacio virtual de formación para las PYMES
This article describes the work that is being done in the TeleAdapt-SOCINF project, an ADAPT project by the European Social Fund, the regional government of Castile -León and the Centre for Telecommunications Development of Castile-Leon. Four interactive hypermedia are being developed. These hypermedia, supported by a web-bases learning space will be used to offer continuous training to SMEs’ employers and employees in Castile-Leon and in Berlin. The have developed and interdisciplinary research group Canalejas is working together whit the department of telelearning and Multimedia of CEDETEL and a technological center and a university in Berlin to acomplish this project. Clustering Analysis for Automatic Certification of LMS Strategies in a University Virtual Campus
In recent years, the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) has grown considerably. This has had a strong effect on the learning process, particularly in higher education. Most universities incorporate LMS as a complement to face-to-face classes in order to improve the student learning process. However, not all teachers use LMS in the same way and universities lack the tools to measure and quantify their use effectively. This study proposes a method to automatically classify and certify teacher competence in LMS from the LMS data. Objective knowledge of actual LMS use will help the university and its faculty to make strategic decisions. The information produced will be used to support teachers and institutions in the classification and design of courses by showing the different LMS usage patterns of teachers and students. In this study, we processed the structure of 3,303 courses and two million interactive events to obtain a classification model based on LMS usage patterns in blended learning. Three clustering methods were compared to find which one was best suited to our problem. The resulting model is clearly related to different course archetypes that can be used to describe the actual use of LMS. We also performed analyses of prediction accuracy and of course typologies across course attributes (academic disciplines and level and academic performance indicators). The results of this study will be used as the basis for an automatic expert system that automatically certifies teacher competence in LMS as evidenced in each course
MSocial: Practical Integration of Social Learning Analytics Into Moodle
In the last years, educational community is asking for a change by introducing social tools in formal learning contexts. Besides, although meaningful research on the effects of social learning can be found in the literature, all authors agree that further research is needed. Social Network Analysis (SNA) has been proven to be a useful tool for both researchers and teachers. However, both standard SNA tools and the most popular social network sites are external to the Learning Management Systems (LMS) anda, therefore, they are hard to integrate by teachers into their educational designs. This study shows MSocial, a novel tool integrated into the Moodle LMS, that allows students interact in their social networks without losing their presence in the LMS. MSocial monitors student activity in social networks (both inside and outside of Moodle), calculates SNA metrics and shows the results promptly in the Moodle course site. Therefore, teachers can easily understand, visualize, and analyze the social participation and interaction of students and incorporate these results to improve the learning process
An analysis of the research on adaptive Learning: the next generation of e-learning
Producción CientíficaThis study examines the evidence for the effectiveness of adaptive learning and the satisfaction level of students when using this type of learning. It first analyses the different classifications of adaptive learning systems existing in the literature, to focus later on describing some adaptive and intelligent e-learning systems, mainly those included in the groups of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS), Adaptive Hypermedia Systems (AHS) and Intelligent Collaborative Learning systems. Next, the Effect Size (ES) tool is adopted as a standard way to compare the results of one pedagogical experiment to another. ES is used to analyze the effectiveness of some of the systems previously described, in order to demonstrate that adaptive learning can provide significant improvements in the learning process of students. Secondly, the learners' opinion is analyzed in order to estimate their satisfaction and to know their preferred mode of studying. Finally, a number of conclusions and future trends are discussed

Effects of competitive e-Learning tools on higher education students: a case study
Producción CientíficaOver the last few years, most of the attempts to introduce active learning methodologies in the classroom have made use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Many of these efforts have been directed to collaborative scenarios used in remote, blended or face-to-face experiences, in order to take advantage of the flexibility provided by ICT. However competitive learning could also have some positive effects on the success of the learning process, to be added to those of collaborative virtual environments. This paper explores the effects of competitive learning on the satisfaction and the academic achievement of telecommunications students. A tool for active and competitive learning (called QUEST) has been used in the “Communications Networks” undergraduate course. Significant results on the use of competitive e-learning tools in university students' outcomes and satisfaction are presented

MurciaES
An applied project of ICT-based active learning for the new model of university education
Producción CientíficaThe main objective of this work is to apply active learning methodologies in a group of subjects of different degrees and diplomas taught at the University of Valladolid, with the aim of adapting them to the new educational model of the European Higher Education Area. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)-based active methodologies offer numerous possibilities, since they allow cooperative work and both distance and blended learning. This paper describes an applied project, which has been financially supported by the 'Consejeria de Educacion de la Junta de Castilla y Leon' (Education Authority of the Regional Government of Castilla y Leon). An educational interaction system called QUEST (Quest Environment for Self-managed Training) is proposed. The system is based on telematics and allows the development of cooperative and competitive workshops. It presents individual and group work environments in which several intellectual 'challenges', to be solved in a time-constrained way, are proposed to the students by students and/or teachers
