    kTk_T-factorization approach to the Higgs boson production in ZZ4ZZ^*\to 4\ell channel at the LHC

    We calculated a differential cross section of the Higgs boson production in the hZZ4h\to ZZ^*\to 4\ell decay channel within the framework of kTk_T-factorization. Results are obtained using an off-shell matrix element for the gghZZ4g^*g^*\to h\to ZZ^*\to 4\ell process together with Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) evolution equations for an unintegrated gluon distribution function. We have presented a comparison of our results with the latest experimental measurements at S\sqrt{S} = 8 TeV and S\sqrt{S} = 13 TeV from the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC. In addition to this, we have compared our results with the results from the collinear factorization formalism calculated up to next-to-next-to-leading order plus next-to-next-to-leading logarithm (NNLO + NNLL) accuracy obtained using the HRes code for the Higgs boson production in the gluon-gluon fusion process. Our estimates are consistently close to NNLO + NNLL results obtained using a collinear factorization formalism and are also in agreement with experimental measurements.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures updated using TMDli

    We estimate transverse spin single spin asymmetry(TSSA) in the process e+pJ/ψ+Xe+p^\uparrow \to J/\psi +X using color evaporation model of charmonium production. We take into account transverse momentum dependent(TMD) evolution of Sivers function and parton distribution function and show that the there is a reduction in the asymmetry as compared to our earlier estimates wherein the Q2Q^2 - evolution was implemented only through DGLAP evolution of unpolarized gluon densities.Comment: Proceedings of Light Cone 2012, New Delhi, Indi

    Single Spin Asymmetry in Charmonium Production

    We present estimates of Single Spin Asymmetry (SSA) in the electroproduction of J/ψJ/\psi taking into account the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution of the gluon Sivers function and using Color Evaporation Model of charmonium production. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using recent parameters for the quark Sivers functions which are fitted using an evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed up to next-to-leading logarithms (NLL) accuracy. We find that these SSAs are much smaller as compared to our first estimates obtained using DGLAP evolution but are comparable to our estimates obtained using TMD evolution where we had used approximate analytical solution of the TMD evolution equation for the purpose.Comment: Conference proceedings of Light Cone 2014 at Raleigh, NC, USA.     We extend our analysis of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in electroproduction of J/ψJ/\psi to include the effect of the scale evolution of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions and gluon Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS, and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production, using an analytically obtained approximate solution of TMD evolution equations discussed in the literature. We find that there is a reduction in the asymmetry compared with our predictions for the earlier case considered by us, wherein the Q2Q^2 dependence came only from DGLAP evolution of the unpolarized gluon densities and a different parametrization of the TMD Sivers function was used.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1201.106

    Numerous social media platforms are accessible to healthcare professionals and to patients. The aim of this study was to determine the role of social media platforms in the academic life of undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, and general dentists and specialists working in an academic setting. A cross-sectional survey was conducted targeting 4th and 5th year dentistry students, postgraduate clinical assistants, qualified dentists, and specialists working at an Oral Health Centre. The survey questions focused on the role of social media sites in the academic setting, and how these can be used to interact on a professional basis in sharing knowledge efficiently and for teaching, as a marketing tool and the ethics related to its use. Most participants appreciated the use of social media to share and receive information for educational purposes. They indicated that online communication increases the spread of information and knowledge efficiently and timeously. They also specified taking advantage of this efficient spread amongst the population as a marketing tool to gain patients. Though there are some individuals who do not quite agree and have suspicions for ethical or personal reasons, and they explained this by indicating that once something is posted online it cannot be removed. The study concluded that the use of social media in dentistry has positive and negative aspects, thus the hesitancy to use it and suspicions expressed by participants. Information placed online should be closely monitored even after having received permission to do so

    We discuss the possibility of using electroproduction of J/ψJ/\psi as a probe of gluon Sivers function by measuring single spin asymmetry (SSA) in experiments with transversely polarized protons and electron beams. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production and find asymmetry up to 25% for certain choices of model parameters which have been used earlier for estimating SSA in the SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes

    A single-blinded trial of methotrexate versus azathioprine as steroid-sparing agents in generalized myasthenia gravis

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Long-term immunosuppression is often required in myasthenia gravis (MG). There are no published trials using methotrexate (MTX) in MG. The steroid-sparing efficacy of azathioprine (AZA) has been demonstrated after 18-months of starting therapy. However, AZA is considered expensive in Africa. We evaluated the steroid-sparing efficacy of MTX (17.5 mg weekly) compared with AZA (2.5 mg/kg daily) in subjects recently diagnosed with generalized MG by assessing their average monthly prednisone requirements.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The primary outcome was the average daily prednisone requirement by month between the two groups. Prednisone was given at the lowest dose to manage MG symptoms and adjusted as required according to protocol. Single-blinded assessments were performed 3-monthly for 2-years to determine the quantitative MG score and the MG activities of daily living score in order to determine those with minimal manifestations of MG.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Thirty-one subjects (AZA n = 15; MTX n = 16) satisfied the inclusion criteria but only 24 were randomized. Baseline characteristics were similar. There was no difference between the AZA- and MTX-groups in respect of prednisone dosing (apart from months 10 and 12), in quantitative MG Score improvement, proportions in sustained remission, frequencies of MG relapses, or adverse reactions and/or withdrawals. The MTX-group received lower prednisone doses between month 10 (p = 0.047) and month 12 (p = 0.039). At month 12 the prednisone dose per kilogram bodyweight in the MTX-group (0.15 mg/kg) was half that of the AZA-group (0.31 mg/kg)(p = 0.019).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study provides evidence that in patients with generalized MG methotrexate is an effective steroid-sparing agent 10 months after treatment initiation. Our data suggests that in generalized MG methotrexate has similar efficacy and tolerability to azathioprine and may be the drug of choice in financially constrained health systems.</p> <p>Trial registration</p> <p>SANCTR:DOH-27-0411-2436</p
