Asymmetric effect and dynamic relationships between oil prices shocks and exchange rate volatility: Evidence from some selected MENA countries
The aim of this paper is to investigate the exchange rate consequences of oil-price fluctuations across selected MENA countries (including both commodity importers and exporters) and to examine the dynamic relationship between such shocks. We employed the asymmetry of volatility through the GJR-GARCH model using daily time series data covering the period between 2001 and mi-2015. We refer to impulse responses functions in order to test the dynamic relationships. Empirical results reveal that foreign exchange market and crude oil exhibit asymmetric and no asymmetric in the return series. Additionally, the findings show asymmetric response of volatilities to positive and negative shocks. Furthermore, the results suggest that there is a dynamic relationship among oil price shocks and exchange rate volatility. Indeed, in the short run, oil prices shocks had a significant impact on exchange rate changes. Finally, we found that in the case of oil-exporting country, the oil prices rise may experience exchange rate appreciation, while, the decrease of oil price leads to appreciation of the currency of oil importing countries. This implies that oil prices are a key variable in determining the strength of the currency and its volatility. Therefore, policy makers of most MENA countries should consider exchange rate and oil price fluctuations on their macroeconomic policies and diversify more their economics
TANGO: Transparent heterogeneous hardware Architecture deployment for eNergy Gain in Operation
The paper is concerned with the issue of how software systems actually use
Heterogeneous Parallel Architectures (HPAs), with the goal of optimizing power
consumption on these resources. It argues the need for novel methods and tools
to support software developers aiming to optimise power consumption resulting
from designing, developing, deploying and running software on HPAs, while
maintaining other quality aspects of software to adequate and agreed levels. To
do so, a reference architecture to support energy efficiency at application
construction, deployment, and operation is discussed, as well as its
implementation and evaluation plans.Comment: Part of the Program Transformation for Programmability in

Musculoeskeletal injuries and illnesses in the Spanish team the month prior to the WMTRC 2022
Introduction
The recent professionalization of trail running has focussed the interest in this sport. The aim is to describe the epidemiology of musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses among professional Spanish trail runners team during the month of training prior to the World Mountain and Trail Running Championship 2022.
Material and Methods
33 professional athletes from Spanish National Team that competed in the World Championship participated in the study. They completed a pre-participation health questionnaire based on the specific questionnaire "Oslo Sport Trauma Research Center - Health 2″.
Results
55% of the athletes suffered a musculoeskeletal injury or health problem during the last month. 12% had to modify their performance in a moderate or severe way. By anatomic location the foot was the most affected with 33% of the cases, followed by the ankle in 25%. Among the diagnoses, chronic overuse musculoskeletal injuries represented 80% with tendinopathy being the most frequent. Regarding the symptons 53% affected upper respiratory tract and 23% gastrointestinal problems.
Conclusions
There is a high risk for the professional trail runners who carry out a continued practice of trail running to suffer an injury or health problem, although most of such injuries or health problems have little impact on their sports performance. The foot and the upper respiratory system are the most affected
The euro area at the edge of the downturn : is there any room for manoeuvre ?
This Policy brief presents the last OFCE forecasts on the euro area countries and
addresses the issue of margins for manoeuvre to cope with an extended period of
economic slowdown in the area. Will fiscal rules fetter policy reaction? We forecast a
growth rate of 1.2%, but negative risks remain substantial. We then discuss public
debt evolution and compute the fiscal policies necessary to reach a 60% public debt
over GDP target in 2040. The fiscal consolidation appears unrealistic in some countries, questioning the credibility of this target. In addition, we investigate the
(moderate) effect of interest rate on the fiscal consolidation requirement. Finally,
the very notion of fiscal space will depend on the speed of adjustment of public
debt and on the level of interest rates
(Not) Keeping the stem straight: a proteomic analysis of maritime pine seedlings undergoing phototropism and gravitropism

Abstract

Background

Plants are subjected to continuous stimuli from the environment and have evolved an ability to respond through various growth and development processes. Phototropism and gravitropism responses enable the plant to reorient with regard to light and gravity.

Results

We quantified the speed of maritime pine seedlings to reorient with regard to light and gravity over 22 days. Seedlings were inclined at 15, 30 and 45 degrees with vertical plants as controls. A lateral light source illuminated the plants and stem movement over time was recorded. Depending on the initial angle of stem lean, the apical response to the lateral light source differed. In control and 15° inclined plants, the apex turned directly towards the light source after only 2 h. In plants inclined at 30° and 45°, the apex first reoriented in the vertical plane after 2 h, then turned towards the light source after 24 h. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis coupled with mass spectrometry was then used to describe the molecular response of stem bending involved in photo- and gravi-tropism after 22 hr and 8 days of treatment. A total of 486 spots were quantitatively analyzed using image analysis software. Significant changes were determined in the protein accumulation of 68 protein spots. Early response gravitropic associated proteins were identified, which are known to function in energy related and primary metabolism. A group of thirty eight proteins were found to be involved in primary metabolism and energy related metabolic pathways. Degradation of Rubisco was implicated in some protein shifts.

Conclusions

Our study demonstrates a rapid gravitropic response in apices of maritime pine seedlings inclined >30°. Little or no response was observed at the stem bases of the same plants. The primary gravitropic response is concomitant with a modification of the proteome, consisting of an over accumulation of energy and metabolism associated proteins, which may allow the stem to reorient rapidly after bending.</p
