Cointegration and the demand for gasoline

    Get PDF
Since the early 1970s there has been a worldwide upsurge in the price of energy and in particular of gasoline. Therefore, demand functions for energy and its components like gasoline have received much attention. However, since confidence in the estimated demand functions is important for use in policy and forecasting, following Amarawickrama and Hunt (2008), this paper estimates the demand for gasoline is estimated with 6 alternative time series techniques with data from Fiji. Estimates with these 6 alternative techniques are very close and thus increase our confidence in them. We found that gasoline demand is both price and income inelastic

4-particle Amplituhedron at 3-loop and its Mondrian Diagrammatic Implication

This article provides a direct calculation of the 4-particle amplituhedron at 3-loop order, by introducing a set of practical tricks. After delicately rearranging each piece of this calculation, we find a suggestive connection between positivity conditions and Mondrian diagrams, which will be quantitatively defined. Such a pattern can be generalized for all Mondrian diagrams among all those contribute to the 4-particle integrand of planar N=4 SYM to all loop orders, as a subsequent work 1712.09994 will show.Comment: 32 pages, 3 figures, 1 appendix. Studies on vibration of some rib-stiffened cantilever plates

    Get PDF
The vibrational mode shapes and frequencies of rib-stiffened skew cantilever plates as determined by holographic interferometry are given. The effects of varying the sweep back angle, rib stiffness and aspect ratio are studied along with the influence of varying the boundary conditions at the root chord on the vibrational behavior of the plates. The study is applicable to investigating the vibrational behavior of stiffened plates often used in the design of guided rockets and missiles

Cyclicity of All Anti-NMHV and N2^2MHV Tree Amplitudes in N=4 SYM

This article proves the cyclicity of anti-NMHV and N2^2MHV tree amplitudes in planar N=4 SYM up to any number of external particles as an interesting application of positive Grassmannian geometry. In this proof the two-fold simplex-like structures of tree amplitudes introduced in 1609.08627 play a key role, as the cyclicity of amplitudes will induce similar simplex-like structures for the boundary generators of homological identities. For this purpose, we only need a part of all distinct boundary generators, and the relevant identities only involve BCFW-like cells. The manifest cyclic invariance in this geometric representation reflects one of the invariant characteristics of amplitudes, though they are obtained by the scheme-dependent BCFW recursion relation.Comment: 13 pages, 1 appendi

Respect, status and domestic work: Female migrants at home and work

    Get PDF
The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a complex and often contradictory process for female, ethnic minority, migrant strangers, moving as domestic workers to Delhi, India’s capital. Drawing on empirical work in a village in Jharkhand State, which has witnessed increasing migration of adolescent girls as domestic workers to Delhi over the last two decades, this paper highlights the experience of tribal domestic workers at home and at work. It points to their agency in dealing with the contradictions they face between earning incomes, acquiring markers of status and gaining respect across the urban and rural worlds they stride

Marriage, Violence, and Choice:Understanding Dalit women's agency in rural Tamil Nadu

    Get PDF
Literature on Dalit women largely deals with issues of violence and oppression based on intersections of class, caste and gender. Women’s bodies, sexuality and reproductive choices are linked to the ideological hegemony of the caste-gender nexus in India, with marriage and sexual relations critical in maintaining caste boundaries. Often the ways in which women manipulate their multiple, interlinked identities as women, Dalits, workers and home-makers to resist control over their bodies (labour and sexuality), negotiate conjugal loyalty and love, and construct a sense of selfhood is missed in the analyses. Based on research in rural Tamil Nadu, I analyse in this paper Dalit women’s narratives that reflect multiple concerns and dilemmas about marital choice and violence, generating in the process a deeper understanding of agency, voice and gender relations, as fluid, dynamic, and intersecting in response to changing experiences, positionalities and subjectivities
