El modelo Cure Violence: reducción de la violencia en San Pedro Sula (Honduras)
Desarrollado en Estados Unidos, el modelo Cure Violence («Curar la Violencia») es un programa de control epidémico que reduce la violencia a través de cambios de normas y de comportamiento. Este artículo revisa, en primer lugar, la situación de violencia en Honduras y, en particular, en San Pedro Sula que, durante años, fue la ciudad con mayores tasas de homicidios del mundo. Para hacer frente a esta situación, en 2013 comenzó a implementarse en algunas zonas de la ciudad una adaptación del programa. Así, tras detallar la adaptación del modelo al contexto de la ciudad hondureña, se analizan sus resultados en dos períodos de 2014 y 2015 (frente a 2013 y 2014, respectivamente), entre los que destacan una reducción significativa de los tiroteos y una reducción menor en las cifras de homicidios.Traductora: Ester Jiménez de Cisneros Pui
Extension of formal conjugations between diffeomorphisms
We study the formal conjugacy properties of germs of complex analytic
diffeomorphisms defined in the neighborhood of the origin of .
More precisely, we are interested on the nature of formal conjugations along
the fixed points set. We prove that there are formally conjugated local
diffeomorphisms such that every formal conjugation
(i.e. ) does not extend to
the fixed points set of , meaning that it is not
transversally formal (or semi-convergent) along .
We focus on unfoldings of 1-dimensional tangent to the identity
diffeomorphisms. We identify the geometrical configurations preventing formal
conjugations to extend to the fixed points set: roughly speaking, either the
unperturbed fiber is singular or generic fibers contain multiple fixed points.Comment: 34 page

Security and Privacy Qualities of Medical Devices: An Analysis of FDA Postmarket Surveillance
Background: Medical devices increasingly depend on computing functions such as wireless communication and Internet connectivity for software-based control of therapies and network-based transmission of patients’ stored medical information. These computing capabilities introduce security and privacy risks, yet little is known about the prevalence of such risks within the clinical setting. Methods: We used three comprehensive, publicly available databases maintained by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to evaluate recalls and adverse events related to security and privacy risks of medical devices. Results: Review of weekly enforcement reports identified 1,845 recalls; 605 (32.8%) of these included computers, 35 (1.9%) stored patient data, and 31 (1.7%) were capable of wireless communication. Searches of databases specific to recalls and adverse events identified only one event with a specific connection to security or privacy. Software-related recalls were relatively common, and most (81.8%) mentioned the possibility of upgrades, though only half of these provided specific instructions for the update mechanism. Conclusions: Our review of recalls and adverse events from federal government databases reveals sharp inconsistencies with databases at individual providers with respect to security and privacy risks. Recalls related to software may increase security risks because of unprotected update and correction mechanisms. To detect signals of security and privacy problems that adversely affect public health, federal postmarket surveillance strategies should rethink how to effectively and efficiently collect data on security and privacy problems in devices that increasingly depend on computing systems susceptible to malware
Arfid: A Reconfigurable Fabric of Input Devices for the Internet of Things
Abstract Low-cost, easily deployable, reconfigurable, movable input devices can enable adaptive workflows in commercial, industrial, and home environments. A key limitation of previous reconfigurable control systems is their high cost or maintenance burden (e.g., battery changes or wiring setup). Our poster presents Arfid, a "fabric" for reconfigurable input devices that connects low-cost, battery-free inputs to arbitrarily specified functions in their surroundings via a buildingwide network of RFID readers. Users can reassign controllers' functions using a simple web interface

general framework. In this analysis, a central role is played by the function
as a conformal map between certain domains. This idea goes

Spinal involvement in mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (Morquio-Brailsford or Morquio A syndrome): presentation, diagnosis and management.
Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (MPS IVA), also known as Morquio-Brailsford or Morquio A syndrome, is a lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme N-acetyl-galactosamine-6-sulphate sulphatase (GALNS). MPS IVA is multisystemic but manifests primarily as a progressive skeletal dysplasia. Spinal involvement is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in MPS IVA. Early diagnosis and timely treatment of problems involving the spine are critical in preventing or arresting neurological deterioration and loss of function. This review details the spinal manifestations of MPS IVA and describes the tools used to diagnose and monitor spinal involvement. The relative utility of radiography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the evaluation of cervical spine instability, stenosis, and cord compression is discussed. Surgical interventions, anaesthetic considerations, and the use of neurophysiological monitoring during procedures performed under general anaesthesia are reviewed. Recommendations for regular radiological imaging and neurologic assessments are presented, and the need for a more standardized approach for evaluating and managing spinal involvement in MPS IVA is addressed
On the structure of codimension 1 foliations with pseudoeffective conormal bundle.
International audienceLet a projective manifold equipped with a codimension (maybe singular) distribution whose conormal sheaf is assumed to be pseudoeffective. By a theorem of Jean-Pierre Demailly, this distribution is actually integrable and thus defines a codimension holomorphic foliation \F. We aim at describing the structure of such a foliation, especially in the non abundant case: It turns out that \F is the pull-back of one of the "canonical foliations" on a Hilbert modular variety. This result remains valid for ''logarithmic foliated pairs''

Multi-level manifestations of sexual stigma among men with same-gender sexual experience in Ghana
Sexual stigma and discrimination toward men who have same-gender sexual experiences are present across the globe. In Ghana, same-gender sexual desires and relationships are stigmatized, and the stigma is sanctioned through both social and legal processes. Such stigma negatively influences health and other material and social aspects of daily life for men who have sex with men (MSM). However, there is evidence that stigma at the interpersonal level can intersect with stigma that may be operating simultaneously at other levels. Few studies provide a comprehensive qualitative assessment of the multi-level sexual stigma derived from the direct narratives of men with same-gender sexual experience. To help fill this gap on sexual stigma, we qualitatively investigated [1] what was the range of sexual stigma manifestations, and [2] how sexual stigma manifestations were distributed across socioecological levels in a sample of Ghanaian MSM. From March to September 2020, we conducted eight focus group discussions (FGDs) with MSM about their experiences with stigma from Accra and Kumasi, Ghana. Data from the FGDs were subjected to qualitative content analysis. We identified a range of eight manifestations of sexual stigma: (1) gossiping and outing; (2) verbal abuse and intrusive questioning; (3) non-verbal judgmental gestures; (4) societal, cultural, and religious blaming and shaming; (5) physical abuse; (6) poor-quality services; (7) living in constant fear and stigma avoidance; and (8) internal ambivalence and guilt about sexual behavior. Sexual stigma manifestations were unevenly distributed across socioecological levels. Our findings are consistent with those of existing literature documenting that, across Africa, and particularly in Ghana, national laws and religious institutions continue to drive stigma against MSM. Fundamental anti-homosexual sentiments along with beliefs associating homosexuality with foreign cultures and immorality drive the stigmatization of MSM. Stigma experienced at all socioecological levels has been shown to impact both the mental and sexual health of MSM. Deeper analysis is needed to understand more of the lived stigma experiences of MSM to develop appropriate stigma-reduction interventions. Additionally, more community-level stigma research and interventions are needed that focus on the role of family and peers in stigma toward MSM in Ghana
