    Study of dynamical charge fluctuations in the hadronic medium

    The dynamical charge fluctuations have been studied in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions by using hadronic model simulations, such as UrQMD and HIJING. The evolution of fluctuations has been calculated at different time steps during the collision as well as different observation window in pseudorapidity (\DelEta). The final state effects on the fluctuations have been investigated by varying η\bigtriangleup\eta~ and the time steps with the aim of obtaining an optimum observation window for capturing maximum fluctuations. It is found that η\bigtriangleup\eta~ between 2.0 and 3.5 gives the best coverage for the fluctuations studies. The results of these model calculations for Au+Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}~=~7.7 to 200~GeV and for Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV are presented and compared with available experimental data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).Comment: 6 pages, 4 Figure

    Hyperglycemia in transported neonates: A tertiary care experience

    Introduction: Hyperglycemia is common in low birth weight and sick neonates which affect them adversely due to hyperosmolarity. As these neonates need often referral to higher setup, maintenance of euglycemia during transport should be emphasized. Objective: To know the prevalence of hyperglycemia on admission among outborn neonates and analyze the association of different transport variables and other clinical parameters with it. Methods: An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was designed and conducted on outborn neonates, enrolled by simple consecutive sampling from November 2014 to October 2016. All data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 and Microsoft Excel version 16 software. Results: Out of 394 outborn neonates, 33.75% were hyperglycemic. 76.4% newborns were transported by ambulance, 94.9% were stabilized before referral, 61.2% had accompanying paramedics, 86.5% neonates given intravenous fluid (IVF) during transport, 61.4% transported by moderately equipped, and 38.6% by poorly equipped vehicle. Admission hyperglycemia was significantly associated with variables such as gestational age, birth asphyxia, type of transport vehicle, duration of transport, IVF during transport, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, and neonatal jaundice with p<0.05. Logistic regression model taking variable which shows a strong association, we can predict 70.3% time correctly the hyperglycemia on admission. Conclusion: Prevalence of hyperglycemia found to be quite common in referred neonates. Although there is quite improvement in neonatal transport due to the implementation of various government transport schemes for patients, specialized neonatal transport service with accompanied skill personnel and care during transport is a long way to go

    Few-Shot Domain Adaptation for Low Light RAW Image Enhancement

    Enhancing practical low light raw images is a difficult task due to severe noise and color distortions from short exposure time and limited illumination. Despite the success of existing Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based methods, their performance is not adaptable to different camera domains. In addition, such methods also require large datasets with short-exposure and corresponding long-exposure ground truth raw images for each camera domain, which is tedious to compile. To address this issue, we present a novel few-shot domain adaptation method to utilize the existing source camera labeled data with few labeled samples from the target camera to improve the target domain's enhancement quality in extreme low-light imaging. Our experiments show that only ten or fewer labeled samples from the target camera domain are sufficient to achieve similar or better enhancement performance than training a model with a large labeled target camera dataset. To support research in this direction, we also present a new low-light raw image dataset captured with a Nikon camera, comprising short-exposure and their corresponding long-exposure ground truth images.Comment: BMVC 2021 Best Student Paper Award (Runner-Up).     Kliničko-biokemijske promjene u bivola hranjenih samo suhom krmom.

    The clinical signs of inappetance, poor body condition, pityriasis and decubital skin lesions in 22 stall-fed buffaloes of 18 to 20 months of age warranted the present clinical investigation. The animals were clinically examined and history was collected on feeding and management conditions. The animals had been held on wheat straw based diet supplemented with 0.5 to 0.8 kg concentrate (devoid of vitamin premix) without access to green forage for the last seven months. Six animals had skin sloughing, rough coat, abrasion and two buffaloes were on sternal recumbency and were unable to get up. Blood samples were collected by jugular venepuncture from eight randomly selected from the 22 affected buffaloes, with varying degrees of clinical signs, and from five control buffaloes of a similar age group, who were provided with ad lib green fodder to serve as control. Serum samples were analyzed for blood glucose, total protein, albumin, urea, uric acid, creatinine, calcium, and phosphorous. Aspartate animo-transferase (AST) and alanine amino-transferase (ALT) activities were significantly (P<0.01) lower in serum from affected animals, indicating reduced hepatic function. Alkaline phosphatase activities (AP), along with serum cholesterol level were also significantly (P<0.05) lower in zero-green fed animals compared to the controls. Blood copper and zinc concentrations were statistically comparable in both the groups, but the mean values for cobalt and iron were significantly lower in affected animals. Mean plasma level of vitamin A, ß-carotene and α-tocopherol was significantly (P<0.01) lower in affected animals than in the controls. This is the first report documenting the combined deficiency of vitamin A and its precursor ß- carotene along with α-tocopherol, and the affected animals had reduced hepatic function. The present investigation strongly suggests provision of green fodder or supplementation of vitamins in the diet of buffaloes to avoid poor health and clinical signs associated with deficiency.U 22 stajski hranjena bivola, čija se dob kretala između 18 do 20 mjeseci, zabilježeni su klinički znakovi gubitka apetita, opadanja kondicije, te suhog ljuštenja i dekubitalnih oštećenja kože. Životinje su klinički pregledane i prikupljeni su podatci vezani za hranidbu i uvjete držanja. Osnovu obroka činila je pšenična slama kojoj je dodavano od 0,5 do 0,8 kg koncentrata (bez vitaminskoga premiksa). Bivolima je uskraćena mogućnost pristupa svježoj zelenoj krmi tijekom posljednjih sedam mjeseci. Šest životinja imalo je grubu kožu s pojavama ljuštenja i guljenja, a u dva bivola utvrđeno je ležanje na prsima s nemogućnošću ustajanja. Uzorci krvi iz jugularne vene prikupljeni su od 8 slučajno odabranih bivola zahvaćenih različitim stupnjem kliničkih promjena, te od 5 bivola koji su bili u približno istoj dobi i poslužili su kao kontrolna skupina hranjena svježom zelenom krmom po volji. U uzorcima seruma analizirani su glukoza, ukupni protein, albumin, mokraćevina, mokraćna kiselina, kreatinin, kalcij i fosfor. Aktivnosti aspartat amino-transferaze (AST) i alanin amino-transferaze (ALT) bile su značajno (P<0,01) niže u serumu životinja sa zahvaćenim promjenama što upućuje na smanjenu funkciju jetara. Aktivnost alkalne fosfataze (AP), zajedno s razinom serumskog kolesterola, bila je također značajno (P<0,05) snižena u životinja hranjenih suhom krmom u usporedbi sa životinjama kontrolne skupine. Koncentracije bakra i cinka u krvi bivola obje skupine bile su slične, a srednje vrijednosti za kobalt i željezo bile su značajno snižene u životinja zahvaćenih promjenama. Srednja razina vitamina A, β-karotena i α-tokoferola bila je značajno (P<0,01) niža u životinja zahvaćenih promjenama u odnosu na životinje u kontrolnoj skupini. Ovo je prvo izvješće koje potvrđuje da udruženi nedostatak vitamina A i njegova prekusora β-karotena, zajedno s nedostatkom α-tokoferola, u životinja zahvaćenih promjenama dovode do smanjene funkcije jetara. Kako bi se izbjeglo slabljenje zdravlja i pojave kliničkih znakova povezanih s navedenim deficijencijama, predlaže se u krmni obrok bivola dodavati svježu zelenu krmu ili vitamine

    A universal and stable metasurface for photonic quasi bound state in continuum coupled with two dimensional semiconductors

    Strong coupling of excitons to optical cavity modes is of immense importance to understanding the fundamental physics of quantum electrodynamics at the nanoscale as well as for practical applications in quantum information technologies. There have been several attempts at achieving strong coupling between excitons in two dimensional semiconductors such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and photonic quasi-bound states in the continuum (BICs). We identify two gaps in the platforms for achieving strong coupling between TMDC excitons and photonic quasi-BICs: firstly, in the studies so far, different cavity architectures have been employed for coupling to different TMDCs. This would mean that typically, the fabrication process flow for the cavities will need to be modified as one moves from one TMDC to the other, which can limit the technological progress in the field. Secondly, there has been no discussion of the impact of fabrication imperfections in the studies on strong coupling of these subsystems so far. In this work, we address these two questions by optimizing a cavity with the same architecture which can couple to the four typical TMDCs (MoS2_2, WS2_2, MoSe2_2, WSe2_2) and perform a detailed investigation on the fabrication tolerance of the associated photonic quasi-BICs and their impact on strong coupling

    Pregnancy in two patients of Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia: a rare case report

    Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia (GT) is inherited platelet disorder with an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance. Though, quantitatively normal, the aggregation ability of platelets is reduced in this condition. Pregnancy and delivery are rare in these patients and have been associated with a high risk of severe postpartum hemorrhage. We describe two GT here 1st case was a primigravida, who was diagnosed to have GT 11 yrs back and was admitted as a term pregnancy which was terminated by elective caesarean section and was was successfully managed by platelet transfusion. 2nd case was a 24 year old lady got diagnosed as GT during the evaluation of frequent mucocutaneous bleed. Her antenatal management was like that of normal pregnancy. She was hospitalized 6 weeks prior to expected date of delivery. Elective LSCS (Lower Segment Caesarean Section) was done and was managed with 4 units of single donor platelet (SDP) without any other complication

    Genetic polymorphism in bubaline mLYS (Exon-IV) and its effect on serum lysozyme activity and somatic cell count

    Animals (280) consisting of 4 different buffalo breeds (Murrah, Mehsana, Surti and Bhadawari) spread over 6 different farms across the country were used for this study. A 230 bp fragment spanning from intron-III to exon-IV was screened for SSCP which revealed frequent occurrence of AB genotype and A allele. Although, different values of lysozyme activity and somatic cell count were observed in Murrah buffalo across the genotypes and seasons, no statistically significant association was observed. Nucleotide analysis revealed A allele differed from B and C allele by 2 and 3 nucleotide substitutions, respectively, out of which one was present in intronic region in both cases. The polymorphism identification and characterization may provide a baseline tool for future studies to further delineate the role of this gene as a putative candidate gene for selection against mastitis
