Fabrication of Nano-Gapped Single-Electron Transistors for Transport Studies of Individual Single-Molecule Magnets
Three terminal single-electron transistor devices utilizing Al/Al2O3 gate
electrodes were developed for the study of electron transport through
individual single-molecule magnets. The devices were patterned via multiple
layers of optical and electron beam lithography. Electromigration induced
breaking of the nanowires reliably produces 1-3 nm gaps between which the SMM
can be situated. Conductance through a single Mn12(3-thiophenecarboxylate)
displays the coulomb blockade effect with several excitations within +/- 40

Constraints on T-Odd, P-Even Interactions from Electric Dipole Moments
We construct the relationship between nonrenormalizable,effective,
time-reversal violating (TV) parity-conserving (PC) interactions of quarks and
gauge bosons and various low-energy TVPC and TV parity-violating (PV)
observables. Using effective field theory methods, we delineate the scenarious
under which experimental limits on permanent electric dipole moments (EDM's) of
the electron, neutron, and neutral atoms as well as limits on TVPC observables
provide the most stringent bounds on new TVPC interactions. Under scenarios in
which parity invariance is restored at short distances, the one-loop EDM of
elementary fermions generate the most severe constraints. The limits derived
from the atomic EDM of Hg are considerably weaker. When parity symmetry
remains broken at short distances, direct TVPC search limits provide the least
ambiguous bounds. The direct limits follow from TVPC interactions between two

Behavioural clusters and predictors of performance during recovery from stroke
We examined the patterns and variability of recovery post-stroke in multiple behavioral domains. A large cohort of first time stroke patients with heterogeneous lesions was studied prospectively and longitudinally at 1-2 weeks, 3 months and one year post-injury with structural MRI to measure lesion anatomy and in-depth neuropsychological assessment. Impairment was described at all timepoints by a few clusters of correlated deficits. The time course and magnitude of recovery was similar across domains, with change scores largely proportional to the initial deficit and most recovery occurring within the first three months. Damage to specific white matter tracts produced poorer recovery over several domains: attention and superior longitudinal fasciculus II/III, language and posterior arcuate fasciculus, motor and corticospinal tract. Finally, after accounting for the severity of the initial deficit, language and visual memory recovery/outcome was worse with lower education, while the occurrence of multiple deficits negatively impacted attention recovery

A better understanding of the development and architecture of roots is essential to develop strategies to increase crop yield and optimize agricultural land use. Roots control nutrient and water uptake, provide anchoring and mechanical support and can serve as important storage organs. Root growth and development is under tight genetic control and modulated by developmental cues including plant hormones and the environment. This review focuses on root architecture and its diversity and the role of environment, nutrient, and water as well as plant hormones and their interactions in shaping root architecture
Charged Current Universality in the MSSM
We compute the complete one-loop contributions to low-energy charged current
weak interaction observables in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
(MSSM). We obtain the constraints on the MSSM parameter space which arise when
precision low-energy charged current data are analyzed in tandem with
measurements of the muon anomaly. While the data allow the presence of at least
one light neutralino, they also imply a pattern of mass splittings among first
and second generation sleptons and squarks which contradict predictions of
widely used models for supersymmetry breaking mediation.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Wide-angle elastic scattering and color randomization
Baryon-baryon elastic scattering is considered in the independent scattering
(Landshoff) mechanism. It is suggested that for scattering at moderate
energies, direct and interchange quark channels contribute with equal color
coefficients because the quark color is randomized by soft gluon exchange
during the hadronization stage. With this assumption, it is shown that the
ratio of cross sections at CM angle
decreases from a high energy value of R_{\pbar p / pp} \approx 1/2.7, down to
R_{\pbar p / pp} \approx 1/28, compatible with experimental data at moderate
energies. This sizable fall in the ratio seems to be characteristic of the
Landshoff mechanism, in which changes at the quark level have a strong effect
precisely because the hadronic process occurs via multiple quark scatterings.
The effect of color randomization on the angular distribution of proton-proton

Baryon Octet magnetic moments in PT: More on the importance of the Decuplet
We address the impact of treating the decuplet of spin-3/2 baryons as an
explicit degree of freedom in the chiral expansion of the magnetic moments of
the octet of spin-1/2 baryons. We carry out a complete calculation of the octet
moments to O(1/\lamchic), including decuplet contributions to the chiral loops.
In contrast to results of previous analyses, we find that inclusion of the
decuplet preserves the convergence behavior of the chiral expansion implied by
