    Study of Mission Statement as an Antecedent to Financial Performance of Digital Firms

    The purpose of this study was to conduct an investigation of the Forbes Top 100 digital companies’ Mission statements (MS) and the impact they have on each firm’s performance, as reflected by their rankings. For the purpose of study, the financial performance data of these companies has been taken from the 2019 Forbes list of Top 100 Digital Companies. The mission statements of these companies have been collected from their respective corporate websites, company documents, and their official social media handles. A positive correlation was observed between number of stakeholders covered through the MS and the firm’s return on assets. Digital companies that mentioned ‘employees’ in their MS have performed significantly better than other firms. Additionally, digital firms which showed ‘concern for societal benefits’ through their MS also performed better. This research underlines the importance of incorporating words such as ‘employees’ as well as having ‘societal orientations’ while designing the MS in digital organizations

    Relationship between food security, agriculture and the sustainable development goals: a bibliometric analysis

    Purpose. Given the urgent need to save the planet, countries are striving to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Agriculture is one of the sectors that contributes to the achievement of these goals on a global scale. As practices in this sector change, direct impacts on soil, air and water are evident, calling into question the sustainability of these practices. Furthermore, food security or food availability is also directly linked to the achievement of the SDGs. With limited research, this study examines the relationship between food security, agriculture, and SDGs. Methodology / approach. This research conducted a bibliometrics analysis from two databases, Web of Science (WoS), with 1450 papers and Scopus 463 documents for 10 years from 2014 to May 2024. Key parameters are identified and ranked, including highly productive authors, countries, disciplines, and institutions. The bibliometric software VOSviewer was used to perform co-word analysis and identify research clusters. Results. The research findings indicate that the United States, followed by India and China, have demonstrated the highest levels of publication activity within the field. The literature predominantly emphasises the SDGs, particularly Zero Hunger, Climate Action, and Life on Land, through the lens of agriculture and food security. The study underscores the leadership of the United States, India, and China in agricultural research, highlighting the critical necessity for concerted collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to foster a transformative food system globally. The findings suggest that agriculture is crucial in attaining food security by guaranteeing sustainable food production, combating hunger, and encouraging activities that improve environmental conservation – all critical for long-term food availability –because of SDG 2: Zero Hunger. Originality / scientific novelty. This paper stands out for its originality as, by using bibliometric analysis, the study systematically maps the scientific literature and uncovers nuanced connections between food security, agriculture, and SDGs. Such an analysis has not yet been widely documented. This study contributed to a deeper understanding of the relationships and dynamics shaping global efforts to achieve food security and sustainable agriculture. Practical value / implications. This study offers a new perspective on how these critical areas of food security, agriculture, and SDGs interplay and evolve, providing crucial insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners alike. Moreover, the paper contributes to the academic discourse by synthesising trends, identifying gaps, and suggesting future research directions, paving the way for informed decision-making and impactful interventions in global food security and sustainable agriculture efforts

    Smart tourism: antecedents to Indian traveller's decision

    PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the tourists' perception of smart tourism with the application of virtual reality and design a framework of smart tourism with elements of VR for Indian Tourism especially in the periods of the pandemic COVID-19. The ever-evolving and unprecedented COVID 19 situation had posed extreme challenges for the travel and tourism industry. In such conditions, it is becoming increasingly necessary to rely on digital technologies, ICT and smart tourism. ICT has served as a catalyst for innovations in tourism.Design/methodology/approachThis study investigates the impact of smart tourism and virtual reality technology on the perception of tourists towards travelling decisions during and post COVID-19 scenario. The respondents involved in the study were tourists travelling in India, the tourists come from different parts of India. A structured questionnaire has been administered to collect data from 224 travellers across India. The questionnaire consisted 22 constructs. The constructs in this section were measured using a five-point Likert scale ranging. In the first step, the first order Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is carried out, by using the software IBM AMOS-20. The initial model is generated ix constructs, and outcomes are used to analyse the model's goodness of fit and construct validity. In the second step, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) is carried out to do the path analysis of the proposed model. The effect of relationships amongst the theoretical constructs is also analysed using SEM.FindingsThe findings imply that the application of smart tourism along with virtual reality forms a positive perception of tourists and provides a sustainable platform for tourism organizations in Indian tourism. Virtual reality-based tourism has emerged as alternate for the tourism industry during the times of Covid, which in long run can be seen as a substitute to traditional tourism. The increasing use of blue ocean concepts, to delivery high-value experience at low cost has complimented the tourism industry. The researchers have made a modest attempt by proposing a blended model of smart tourism with virtual reality as a blue ocean strategy and which would ultimately facilitate the sustainability of the Industry by creating multi-dimensional values of experience for tourists in India.Research limitations/implicationsThe researchers have made a modest attempt by proposing a blended model of smart tourism with virtual reality as a blue ocean strategy, which would ultimately facilitate the industry's sustainability by creating multi-dimensional values of experience for tourists in India.Originality/valueThis qualitative study designs a smart tourism system with the use of the recent advances in ICT and Virtual Reality (VR), as a bridging solution and the saviour of the tourism sector in India during COVID 19. The integration of ICT into the travel experience has resulted in the social phenomena of smart tourism.     Mindful, responsible, and sustainable consumption: a hybrid review of evolving research trends

    Abstract Sustainable consumption has emerged as a critical research domain in response to the growing environmental and social challenges posed by overconsumption. This study presents a hybrid review by integrating bibliometric analysis and a overview of reviews using PRISMA Approach to provide a comprehensive understanding of mindful, responsible, and sustainable consumption. The bibliometric analysis reveals the key themes, intellectual structures, and research trends across 1741 research articles retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science. Additionally, a focused synthesis of 84 selected review papers was conducted to examine methodological patterns, theoretical frameworks, and emerging research gaps. Findings indicate a shift from individual consumer behaviour models to interdisciplinary approaches incorporating digital interventions, AI-driven decision-making, and circular economy principles. While research has expanded, challenges such as greenwashing, intention-behaviour gaps, and limited policy implementation persist. The study highlights critical research voids, including the underrepresentation of socio-cultural dimensions and intersectionality with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By offering a structured roadmap for future research, this review advances academic discourse and provides actionable insights for policymakers, businesses, and consumer advocacy groups

    Innovations &amp; Technology Based Initiatives in Mutual Fund Distribution Intermediation in India

    The world of financial services is changing in ways that are more dramatic than we would have foreseen even five years ago. Taking a leaf from evolving ecosystem around mobile telephony, many financial institutions are using smart technology to remodel their branches into smarter point of sale. This has given a genesis to a terminology of “emerging distribution intermediaries” in financial services. Mutual funds (MF) being the combiner of various savings instruments are regarded as the ideal investment vehicle for today’s complex and modern financial scenario. But its penetration is poor. One of the major levers to increase penetration is innovations in distributing MF products. Considering this, Indian government &amp; regulator have taken many policies reforms &amp; IT initiatives towards increasing retail participation in Mutual Funds and equity markets in recent past. Through this paper, researcher has attempted to critically analyze these initiatives. Apart from highlighting various innovations in MF distributions, this paper will also highlight the present state of online Mutual Fund trading platforms. Further, the paper attempts to highlight the areas of concern, augmentation and intervention in this space.</jats:p

    Cascading Effect of Boeing’s 737 Max Technology Development

    During March and April 2019, many countries had grounded Boeing’s 737 Max 8 jets following two fatal crashes in a space of five months, between October 2018 and March 2019, killing 346 people. It was widely reported that the problem was with the software called Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS). Aviation experts across the world accused Boeing of being lax in following safety protocols during 737 Max jet’s development stage. It was reported that the company was in a hurry to face the fast growing competition from archival Airbus. Boeing faced a sever threat of losing its market share in the North American short haul market after the runaway success of Airbus A320. The A320 deployed several first of the kind technologies and grabbed significant market share in European and Asian short haul market. This article explores the strategies that Boeing followed while developing Boeing 737 jet technology over the years. Also the article focuses on the competitive strategy of Boeing in general while playing catch-up with its competitor Airbus. Secondary data was analysed to illustrate cascading effect on the technology development.</jats:p
