Simplified model of battery energy-stored quasi-Z-source inverter-based photovoltaic power plant with Twofold energy management system
The use of a battery energy-stored quasi-Z-source inverter (BES-qZSI) for large-scale PV power plants exhibits promising features due to the combination of qZSI and battery as energy storage system, such as single-stage power conversion (without additional DC/DC boost converter), improvements in the output waveform quality (due to the elimination of switching dead time), and continuous and smooth delivery of energy to the grid (through the battery energy storage system). This paper presents a new simplified model of a BES-qZSI to represent the converter dynamics with sufficient accuracy while using a less complex model than the detailed model (including the modelling of all switches and switching pulses). It is based on averaged values of the variables, voltage/current sources, and the same control circuit than the detailed model, except for the switching pulses generation. The simplified model enables faster time-domain simulation and is useful for control design and dynamic analysis purposes. Additionally, an energy management system has been developed to govern the power supply to grid under two possible scenarios: 1) System operator command following; or 2) economic dispatch of the stored energy. Efficacy Studies against PCV-2 of a New Trivalent Vaccine including PCV-2a and PCV-2b Genotypes and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae When Administered at 3 Weeks of Age
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a new trivalent vaccine containing inactivated
Porcine Circovirus 1-2a and 1-2b chimeras and a Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae bacterin administered to
pigs around 3 weeks of age. This trivalent vaccine has already been proved as efficacious in a splitdose regimen but has not been tested in a single-dose scenario. For this purpose, a total of four studies
including two pre-clinical and two clinical studies were performed. Globally, a significant reduction
in PCV-2 viraemia and faecal excretion was detected in vaccinated pigs compared to non-vaccinated
animals, as well as lower histopathological lymphoid lesion plus PCV-2 immunohistochemistry
scorings, and incidence of PCV-2-subclinical infection. Moreover, in field trial B, a significant increase
in body weight and in average daily weight gain were detected in vaccinated animals compared to
the non-vaccinated ones. Circulation of PCV-2b in field trial A and PCV-2a plus PCV-2d in field trial B
was confirmed by virus sequencing. Hence, the efficacy of this new trivalent vaccine against a natural
PCV-2a, PCV-2b or PCV-2d challenge was demonstrated in terms of reduction of histopathological
lymphoid lesions and PCV-2 detection in tissues, serum and faeces, as well as improvement of

NEMO-SMO acoustic array: A deep-sea test of a novel acoustic positioning system for a km3-scale underwater neutrino telescope
Within the activities of the NEMO project, the installation of a 8-floors tower (NEMO-Phase II) at a depth of 3500 m is foreseen in 2012. The tower will be installed about 80 km off-shore Capo Passero, in Sicily. On board the NEMO tower, an array of 18 acoustic sensors will be installed, permitting acoustic detection of biological sources, studies for acoustic neutrino detection and primarily acoustic positioning of the underwater structures. For the latter purpose, the sensors register acoustic signals emitted by five acoustic beacons anchored on the sea-floor. The data acquisition system of the acoustic sensors is fully integrated with the detector data transport system and is based on an "all data to shore" philosophy. Signals coming from hydrophones are continuously sampled underwater at 192 kHz/24 bit and transmitted to shore through an electro-optical cable for real-time analysis. A novel technology for underwater GPS time-stamping of data has been implemented and tested. The operation of the acoustic array will permit long-term test of sensors and electronics technologies that are proposed for the acoustic positioning system of KM3NeT. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
