    Investigation of Wear Behaviour of Al6061 reinforcement with TiC and MoS2

    Metal matrix composite (MMC) focuses primarily on improved specific strength, high temperature and wear resistance application. Aluminum matrix reinforced with titanium carbide and molybdenum disulfide has good potential and also self-lubrication. The main challenge is to produce this composite in a cost effective way to meet the above requirements. In this study Al–TiC-MoS2 castings with different volume fraction of TiC and MoS2 were produced in an argon atmosphere by an enhanced stir casting method. Hardness of the composite has increased with higher % of TiC addition. At that same time self-lubrication of composite has occur in the effort of MoS2. Dry sliding wear behavior of AMC was analyses with the help of a pin on disc wear and friction monitor. The present analyses reveal the improved hardness  as well as wear resistance

    Non-Fermi-liquid behavior at anti-ferromagnetic quantum critical point in heavy fermion system Ce(Cu1x_{1-x}Cox_x)2_2Ge2_2

    Polycrystalline samples of Ce(Cu1x_{1-x}Cox_x)2_2Ge2_2 were investigated by means of electrical resistivity ρ\rho(TT), magnetic susceptibility χ\chi(TT), specific heat CCp_p(TT) and thermo electric power SS(TT) measurements. The long-range antiferromagnetic (AFM) order, which set in at TTN_N = 4.1 K in CeCu2_2Ge2_2, is suppressed by non-iso-electronic cobalt (Co) doping at a critical value of the concentration xxc_c = 0.6, accompanied by non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior inferred from the power law dependence of heat capacity and susceptibility i.e. CC(TT)/TT and χ\chi(TT) \propto TT1+λ^{-1+\lambda} down to 0.4 K, along with a clear deviation from TT2^2 behavior of the electrical resistivity. However, we have not seen any superconducting phase in the quantum critical regime down to 0.4 K.Comment: 8 pages, 11 figure

    Absorption and luminescence of hydrogen and oxygen passivated silicon quantum dots

    Silicon (Si) quantum dots (QDs) passivated with oxygen and hydrogen of size 1 nm in diameter are prepared by wet chemical route and electrochemical route respectively. The optical measurements reveal the strong absorption feature around 4.7 eV and weak absorption at 3.4 eV for oxygen passivated Si QDs. Hydrogen passivated Si QDs of the same size show absorption at 4.9 eV. Both the oxygen and hydrogen passivated Si QDs show broad luminescence around 3.9 and 3.8 eV. Films of these QDs, when coated on crystalline silicon solar cells, show an increase in the efficiency of the solar cell by 12 %.     FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF A THIRD COMPONENT USED IN TERNARY SOLID DISPERSION: A REVIEW

    Ternary solid dispersion (TSD) is one of the promising approaches used in recent studies to address the issues encountered by poorly water-soluble drugs. The binary solid dispersion (BSD) with the drug and the single polymer is not sufficient to satisfy all the criteria such as improved solubility, dissolution, stability, supersaturation, and recrystallization inhibition. Hence, the TSD with the third component/ternary agent aids in overcoming the limitations, thereby enhancing the solubility and bioavailability to a greater extent when compared to the BSD. Excipients that can be used as a third component includes surfactants, pH modulator, polymer and adsorbents. All these excipients have distinct benefits in improving the efficiency of the final dosage form. However, care must be taken in selecting suitable excipients for the research. This review highlights the impact of these excipients in improving the formulation complications and the therapeutic potential of the TSD

    Sustainability of Farmer Producer Organisations - The case of producer organisations involved in the production and marketing of ‘neera’ in the coconut sector

    Neera-the coconut inflorescence sap has been promoted as a potential value-added non-alcoholic beverage with abundant health benefits. The concerted effort of the stakeholder agencies could liberate the product from the policy regulations on its production under the excise act (known as ‘Abkari act’ in Kerala). Subsequently, the coconut producer federations (CPFs) in the State were granted licenses for ‘neera’ production and marketing. However, the majority of the CPFs discontinued the ‘neera’ enterprise, which they have initiated with greater enthusiasm. The present study is a modest attempt to trace the reasons for setbacks experienced in the ‘neera’ sector and also to provide a refined framework for revamping the sector. The details of licenses granted to the CPFs were sourced from the Department of Excise, Government of Kerala. The sample size of the study was 95 (13 CPFs who are still active and 82 CPFs who have discontinued). It was observed that the ‘neera’ value chain is in the evolving stage, and the withdrawal of the institutional support had detrimentally affected the confidence of the CPFs ventured into it. The availability of ‘neera’ technicians (tappers) and the high wage rates have evoked concerns on the profitability as well as the assurance of continuous supply of the product. The study categorically highlights the need for a restructured value chain of ‘neera’ with specific roles assigned to the stakeholders through the creation of functional linkages

    Black Holes in Non-flat Backgrounds: the Schwarzschild Black Hole in the Einstein Universe

    As an example of a black hole in a non-flat background a composite static spacetime is constructed. It comprises a vacuum Schwarzschild spacetime for the interior of the black hole across whose horizon it is matched on to the spacetime of Vaidya representing a black hole in the background of the Einstein universe. The scale length of the exterior sets a maximum to the black hole mass. To obtain a non-singular exterior, the Vaidya metric is matched to an Einstein universe.     A pharmacoeconomic study of different brands of commonly prescribed antihypertensive drugs

    Background: The hypertension is the most common chronic disease, therefore treatment should be affordable. The antihypertensive drugs of same strength are available in market at different costs. This study was undertaken to create awareness among health care workers and patients, about cost difference among different brands of same antihypertensive drug. So that whenever possible, a cheaper effective brand can be prescribed to ensure better patient adherence.Methods: Maximum retail price (MRP) of various antihypertensive drugs of same strength, manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies was obtained from various offline and online sources. The minimum and maximum cost of 10 tablets/capsules noted. The cost ratio and percentage cost variation was calculated for single drug and fixed dose combinations. The ceiling price (as per DPCO) of essential antihypertensives (as per national list of essential medicines) was compared with their maximum cost.Results: The formulations of single antihypertensive drugs (41) and fixed dose combinations of two drugs (19) and three drugs (9) were included in the study. Among the single antihypertensives analyzed the highest cost difference was of eplerenone (50 mg) and high cost ratio and cost variation percentage was of amlodipine (5 mg). Among fixed dose combination of two drugs analyzed highest cost difference was found that of hydrochlorothazide (12.5 mg)+olmesartan (40 mg) combination and highest cost ratio and percentage cost variation was of amlodipine (5 mg)+telmisartan (40 mg).Conclusions: There was a huge price variation among the antihypertensive drugs manufactured by various companies. Some measures must be taken by the government to bring the uniformity in the price that will help to reduce the economic burden on the patients
