    Get PDF
Rice is exported in two varieties, basmati (aromatic) and non-basmati. The basmati rice exports are in three categories: white, brown and parboiled. India earned Rs 18.4 billion in 2001-02 from exports of basmati rice and non-basmati rice contributed Rs 13.3 billion for the same period. This paper focuses on promoting rice exports, for which infrastructural and policy requirements are discussed.

Sovereign debt, government myopia, and the financial sector

What determines the sustainability of sovereign debt? In this paper, we develop a model where myopic governments seek electoral popularity but can nevertheless commit credibly to service external debt. They do not default when they are poor because they would lose access to debt markets and be forced to reduce spending; they do not default when they become rich because of the adverse consequences to the domestic financial sector. Interestingly, the more myopic a government, the greater the advantage it sees in borrowing, and therefore the less likely it will be to default (in contrast to models where sovereigns repay because they are concerned about their long term reputation). More myopic governments are also likely to tax in a more distortionary way, and create more dependencies between the domestic financial sector and government debt that raise the costs of default. We use the model to explain recent experiences in sovereign debt markets

AIM OF THE STUDY: To study association between serum bilirubin & severity of Diabetic retinopathy in a tertiary care center. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a prospective observational study conducted among patients attending and refered to Ophthalmology OPD in PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Coimbatore. It is a hospital based study spanning over a period of 3 months from May 2014 to July 2014. Totally 75 diabetic patients were included in the study. RESULTS: In our study, Of the 75 consecutive diabetic patients included in the study,48 were males and 27were females. In that 32% had no signs of diabetic retinopathy, 57.5% had non-proliferative retinopathy and 10.5% had proliferative retinopathy. In our study, the mean level of HBA1C in patients with DR is 9.5 and the mean level of HBA1C in patients without DR is 8.08. In the group of patients within 5years of duration of diabetes 55% of patients had diabetic retinopathy. It was observed that 89% of the patients presented with DR in the group of patients with duration 6 to 10 years. It was observed that DR changes was present in 100% of the patients with duration more than 10 years. In our study, Out of the 75 patients, the number of pt with serum bilirubin level less than 0.3 were 4pts and all presented with DR changes. The number of pt within 0.3to0.6 were totally 54pts in this group41pts(76%) had DR changes and 13pts(24%) without DR changes. The number of pt with serum bilirubin greater than 0.6 were 17pts in this 6pts (35%) had DR changes and 11 pts (65%) without DR changes. CONCLUSION: In this study we have tried to study about the antioxidant role of serum bilirubin and its association with the microvascular complications of diabetes.there has already been many studies done to observe the antioxidant role of serum bilirubin in cardiovascular diseases.but its role in diabetic retinopathy needs further evaluation. If the role of bilirubin against DR is proved that they have a protective effect on progression of DR,furthur avenues for research towards developing drugs to increase bilirubin levels could be opened up and thus focus can shifted towards medical management of diabetic retinopathy

The decision making is a general and significant action in day-to-day life. In some cases, experts cannot express their preferences using precise value due to inherent unreliability. The utilization of linguistic labels creates expert judgement more informative and consistent for decision making. The group recommendation is considered as a significant factors of e-commerce domain due to their direct impact on profit. The personalized experiments improve the engagement and the count of purchases of the customer when the recommended products are matched to the current interest. In this paper, the Large-Scale Group Decision Making (LSGDM) two stage consensus reaching process is proposed by using three various Amazon real world dataset. This proposed method permits an autocratic decision maker to utilize a different group recommendation for a sequence of decisions at highest level of consensus. The performance of the model is estimated by applying parameters like Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Precision and Recall. The obtained result shows that proposed methodology provides better result while comparing various other methods

    The Internal Governance of Firms

    Get PDF
We develop a model of internal governance where the self-serving actions of top management are limited by the potential reaction of subordinates. Internal governance can mitigate agency problems and ensure that firms have substantial value, even with little or no external governance by investors. External governance, even if crude and uninformed, can complement internal governance and improve efficiency. This leads to a theory of investment and dividend policy, in which dividends are paid by self-interested CEOs to maintain a balance between internal and external control.University of Chicago.
