Mathematics placement test score & its significance: a case study
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between Mathematics placement test scores and
students’ final scores in Mathematics course. Questions have been raised before regarding the importance
of Mathematics placement tests in placing students into the most suitable Mathematics course. The study
examines the importance of the Mathematics placement test and its significant contribution to students’
performance in Mathematics course taken at their pre university level of studies. Mathematics placement
tests undeniably fulfil their purpose of providing preliminary Mathematics course placement
recommendations, encouraging students to register themselves for the most appropriate Mathematics
course based on their competence, thus helping students to perform better. The study will focus on the 86
students enrolled in Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) at Sunway College Johor Bahru in 2013.
The correlation and regression between their Mathematics placement test scores and their final marks in
the MUFY Mathematics Unit 1 (equivalent to year 12 Mathematics) and MUFY Fundamental Mathematics
Unit 1 (equivalent to year 11 Mathematics) is analysed
Frand v. Compulsory Licensing: The Lesser of the Two Evils
This paper focuses on two types of licenses that can best be described as outliers—FRAND and compulsory licenses. Overall, these two specific forms of licenses share the objective of producing a fair and reasonable license of a technology protected by intellectual property. The comparable objective notwithstanding, each type of license achieves this end using different mechanisms. The FRAND license emphasizes providing the licensee with reasonable terms, e.g., by preventing a standard patent holder from extracting unreasonably high royalty rates. By contrast, compulsory licenses emphasize the public benefit that flows from enabling access to an otherwise inaccessible invention. Ultimately, both forms of license attempt to create a value for the licensed product that can be remarkably different from the product’s true market value. Nevertheless, both forms ultimately benefit the end-consumer who pays less to access a product subject to either of these forms of license. In comparing these two forms of licenses, the paper hopes to determine whether one form is better than the other, and if so, from whose perspective—the consumer, the licensor or the licensee. In doing so, this paper compares the different prevailing efforts to embrace such licenses as well as the impact of such licenses on the industry

Impact of Selenium Nanoparticles on Growth, Biochemical Characteristics and Yield of Cluster Bean Cyamopsis tetragonoloba
The present study deals with the impact of selenium nanoparticles on growth, biochemical characteristics and yield of Cluster bean Cyamopsis tetragonoloba grown for a period 60 days Sodium selenite and ascorbic acid was utilized for the synthesis of Selenium nanoparticles using precipitation method. Selenium nanoparticles were characterized by using SEM, EDAX, FTIR and XRD. Pot culture studies of cluster bean in different quantity of Selenium nanoparticles such as 0,100, 200, 300, 400 and 500mg for treatment T0 (Control) T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 and growth biochemical and yield were estimated at the end of 60 days. SEM image of selenium nanoparticles was observed as spherical in shape. EDAX spectrum recorded on purity of selenium nanoparticles. The FTIR spectrum of selenium nanoparticles was analyzed in the range of 4000-400 cm-1 spectral bands were observed. The germination percentage in T0, T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 are 100,90,80,90,100 and 100 respectively. Among the treatments the shoot length is higher (21.8) in T1 containing 100mg of selenium nanoparticles and lower in(12.01) T5 containing 500mg of nanoparticles. Root length, fresh and dry weight and leaf area were higher in T2. The vigor index is higher T4.The chlorophyll a, b total Chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanin, protein, L-proline, free amino acids and leaf nitrate were higher inT4.Among the treatments yield of cluster bean is higher in T4 and lower in T0

Ten years ago, the TRIPs Agreement set a distinct tone in international law by requiring Members to prioritize international trade obligations as a means to achieve national goals. Within the next five years, the AIDS crisis highlighted that compromising pressing national responsibilities-like a looming public health crisis-to fulfill international obligations may, in fact, detrimentally affect international trade. Meanwhile, access to medication continues to be an unresolved issue even as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of TRIPs and the end of the transitional period. This Article suggests that the success of TRIPs depends on its ability to address national responsibilities that impedes members from fulfilling international obligations. In this context, the Article analyzes policy options embraced by countries like India, which prioritized national responsibilities in its quest to appear on the global trade map
Characterization of Salmonella enterica isolated from street food and clinical samples in Malaysia
Salmonella enterica is one of the major causes of bacterial foodborne infection. The aims of this study were to determine the antibiotic resistance and the genetic diversity of Salmonella enterica isolated from street foods and clinical samples and to understand the correlation between the prevalence of serovars and genotypes with their source (street food and clinical samples) and geographic origin (Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Selangor in Peninsular Malaysia). The enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) PCR analysis distinguished the Salmonella
isolates into 19 ERIC types, with one untypable isolate. Dendrograms were specifically constructed for the S. Biafra and S. Typhi isolates. Identical or very similar ERIC types among the S. Biafra isolates from street food samples indicate transmission of the S. Biafra among the street foods, as well as possible cross-contamination of the street foods. In addition, the identical or very similar
ERIC types among the S. Typhi isolates from human samples examined suggest possible similarity in their source of infection. All the twenty four isolates were resistant to rifampin and none were resistant to cefuroxime. Most isolates displayed multiple resistances. Dendrogram of antibiotic resistances produced six clusters, with similarity levels between 18.8% and 100%. Generally, street
food and clinical isolates tend to cluster apart. Dendrogram to cluster the antibiotic groups showed that they could be grouped according to classes based on mode of inhibition. The findings suggest that street food contaminated with drug-resistant Salmonella enterica can be an important factor in the continuous emergence of antibiotic resistant Salmonella enterica
Emerging diseases of goats in Malaysia
Malaysia is aggressively reviving its sluggish small ruminant industry via imports of high and good quality productive goats. However, certain diseases especially the ones which take an insidious course may be missed (rather long incubation period) during quarantine. This paper describes the first definite outbreak of caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) and coenuriasis in goats. The disease was confirmed via clinical signs, pathology, and virus isolation (CAE). Thermophilic Campylobacter spp. in salad vegetables in Malaysia
The main aim of this study was to combine the techniques of most probable number (MPN) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for quantifying the prevalence and numbers of Campylobacter spp. in ulam, a popular Malaysian salad dish, from a traditional wet market and two modern supermarkets in Selangor, Malaysia. A total of 309 samples of raw vegetables which are used in ulam were examined in the study. The prevalences of campylobacters in raw vegetables were, for supermarket I, Campylobacter spp., 51.9%; Campylobacter jejuni, 40.7%; and Campylobacter coli, 35.2%: for supermarket II, Campylobacter spp., 67.7%; C. jejuni, 67.7%; and C. coli, 65.7%: and for the wet market, Campylobacter spp., 29.4%; C. jejuni, 25.5%; and C. coli, 22.6%. In addition Campylobacter fetus was detected in 1.9% of raw vegetables from supermarket I. The maximum numbers of Campylobacter spp. in raw vegetables from supermarkets and the wet market were > 2400 and 460 MPN/g, respectively
