Probing Active to Sterile Neutrino Oscillations in the LENS Detector
Sterile neutrino conversion in meter scale baselines can be sensitively
probed using monoenergetic, sub-MeV, flavor pure e-neutrinos from an artificial
MCi source and the unique technology of LENS designed to oberve the low energy
solar neutrino spectrum via tagged CC e-neutrino capture in 115-In.
Active-sterile oscillations can be directly observed in the granular LENS
detector itself to critically test and extend resuls of short baseline
accelerator and reactor experiments.Comment: 4pages, 4 figures, text and figure change
On input/output maps for nonlinear systems via continuity in a locally convex topology
In this paper we show that the output of a nonlinear system with inputs in () whose state satisfies a nonlinear differential equation with standard smoothness conditions can be written as the composition of a nonlinear map with a linear Hilbert-Schmidt operator acting on the input. The result also extends to abstract semi-linear infinite dimensional systems. The approach is via the study of the continuity of the solution in a locally convex topology generated by seminorms of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in Hilbert space. The result reveals an entirely new structure related to nonlinear systems which can lead to useful approximation results
Solar Neutrinos: Spin Flavour Precession and LMA
The time dependence that appears to be hinted by the data from the first 13
years of the solar neutrino Gallium experiments is viewed as resulting from a
partial conversion of active neutrinos to light sterile ones through the
resonant interaction between the magnetic moment of the neutrino and a varying
solar field. A summary of the model and its predictions are presented for the
forthcoming experiments Borexino and LENS.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, contribution to 12th Lomonosov Conference in

Phase oscillations in superfluid 3He-B weak links
Oscillations in quantum phase about a mean value of , observed across
micropores connecting two \helium baths, are explained in a Ginzburg-Landau
phenomenology. The dynamics arises from the Josephson phase relation, the
interbath continuity equation, and helium boundary conditions. The pores are
shown to act as Josephson tunnel junctions, and the dynamic variables are the
inter bath phase difference and fractional difference in superfluid density at
micropores. The system maps onto a non-rigid, momentum-shortened pendulum, with
inverted-orientation oscillations about a vertical tilt angle , and
other modes are predicted
Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections Management: A study about the intervention with Long incision fasciiotomies over other Types of traditional management
INTRODUCTION:
Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections (NSTI’S) comprise a spectrum of disease entities that are characterized by extensive rapidly progressive soft tissue necrosis that usually involves the muscular fascia and subcutaneous tissue, but can also affect skin & muscle. NSTI’S classified as cellulitis, fasciitis or myositis, based on the principle soft tissue layer involved with necrosis. These infections can have either an indolent or fulminant presentation and their clinical course is unpredictable.
OBJECTIVE:
To study the advantage of decompression by single long incision fasciiotomies with over other types of traditional management in the cases of Necroitizing soft tissue infections.
MATERIALS & METHODS:
This was a descriptive study conducted at Chengalpattu Medical College, Dept. of General Surgery in unit IV. The wards are 9 & 10, & septic ward over a period of one & half years June 2009 to December 2011. This includes the patients diagnosed as cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis and admitted through surgical OP & Casualty. The patients below 12 years of age, localized abscesses, intra abdominal solid organs involvement, secondary surgical wound infections and Diabetic foot were excluded from the study.
After resuscitation in Casualty reception the patients underwent wound debridement where pus was collected for culture & sensitivity test. Septic OT used in all of the cases. In selected cases single or multiple long incisions done. In few cases all necrosed material and slough was removed. Wound was irrigated with Hydrogen peroxide & Normal saline. The post debridement management included correction of fluid and electrolyte balance coagulation profile, intravenous antibiotics, daily dressings & nutritional supplementation. Antibiotics were changed later according to the culture sensitivity results. The patients were kept in isolated septic ward. Few patients had “Matthan thylam” application which was useful in wound granulation & deodorization.
Few of them got opinion from plastic surgery department and received SSG. Later the patients followed up to a possible time intervals. Data was connected with special reference to demographics, clinical features, investigations, co morbidities, involved site, surgical intervention, outcome & follow up.
CONCLUSION:
The following are conclusions that could be inferred from the study on the surgical spectrum and risk factors among the diseased.
