On static spherically symmetric solutions of the vacuum Brans-Dicke theory
It is shown that among the four classes of the static spherically symmetric
solution of the vacuum Brans-Dicke theory of gravity only two are really
independent. Further by matching exterior and interior (due to physically
reasonable spherically symmetric matter source) scalar fields it is found that
only Brans class I solution with certain restriction on solution parameters may
represent exterior metric for a nonsingular massive object. The physical
viability of the black hole nature of the solution is investigated. It is
concluded that no physical black hole solution different from the Schwarzschild
black hole is available in the Brans-Dicke theory.Comment: 15 pages, To be published in Gen. Rel. and Grav, typos in references

Persistent edge currents for paired quantum hall states
We study the behavior of the persistent edge current for paired quantum Hall
states on the cylinder. We show that the currents are periodic with the unit
flux . At low temperatures, they exhibit anomalous oscillations in
their flux dependence. The shape of the functions converges to the sawtooth
function periodic with .Comment: RevTex 8 pages. one figure. to appear in Phys.Rev.
Initial State Interactions for -Proton Radiative Capture
The effects of the initial state interactions on the radiative
capture branching ratios are examined and found to be quite sizable. A general
coupled-channel formalism for both strong and electromagnetic channels using a
particle basis is presented, and applied to all the low energy data
with the exception of the {\it 1s} atomic level shift. Satisfactory fits are
obtained using vertex coupling constants for the electromagnetic channels that
are close to their expected SU(3) values.Comment: 16 pages, uses revte
Fractional Quantum Hall States of Clustered Composite Fermions
The energy spectra and wavefunctions of up to 14 interacting quasielectrons
(QE's) in the Laughlin nu=1/3 fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state are
investigated using exact numerical diagonalization. It is shown that at
sufficiently high density the QE's form pairs or larger clusters. This
behavior, opposite to Laughlin correlations, invalidates the (sometimes
invoked) reapplication of the composite fermion picture to the individual QE's.
The series of finite-size incompressible ground states are identified at the QE
filling factors nu_QE=1/2, 1/3, 2/3, corresponding to the electron fillings
nu=3/8, 4/11, 5/13. The equivalent quasihole (QH) states occur at nu_QH=1/4,
1/5, 2/7, corresponding to nu=3/10, 4/13, 5/17. All these six novel FQH states
were recently discovered experimentally. Detailed analysis indicates that QE or
QH correlations in these states are different from those of well-known FQH
electron states (e.g., Laughlin or Moore-Read states), leaving the origin of
their incompressibility uncertain. Halperin's idea of Laughlin states of QP
pairs is also explored, but is does not seem adequate.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures; revision: 1 new figure, some new references,

The 3-3-1 model with S_4 flavor symmetry
We construct a 3-3-1 model based on family symmetry S_4 responsible for the
neutrino and quark masses. The tribimaximal neutrino mixing and the diagonal
quark mixing have been obtained. The new lepton charge \mathcal{L} related to
the ordinary lepton charge L and a SU(3) charge by L=2/\sqrt{3} T_8+\mathcal{L}
and the lepton parity P_l=(-)^L known as a residual symmetry of L have been
introduced which provide insights in this kind of model. The expected vacuum
alignments resulting in potential minimization can origin from appropriate
violation terms of S_4 and \mathcal{L}. The smallness of seesaw contributions
can be explained from the existence of such terms too. If P_l is not broken by
the vacuum values of the scalar fields, there is no mixing between the exotic
and the ordinary quarks at the tree level.Comment: 20 pages, revised versio
Tunneling spectra of submicron BiSrCaCuO intrinsic Josephson junctions: evolution from superconducting gap to pseudogap
Tunneling spectra of near optimally doped, submicron
BiSrCaCuO intrinsic Josephson junctions are presented,
and examined in the region where the superconducting gap evolves into
pseudogap. The spectra are analyzed using a self-energy model, proposed by
Norman {\it et al.}, in which both quasiparticle scattering rate and
pair decay rate are considered. The density of states derived
from the model has the familiar Dynes' form with a simple replacement of
by = ( + )/2. The
parameter obtained from fitting the experimental spectra shows a roughly linear
temperature dependence, which puts a strong constraint on the relation between
and . We discuss and compare the Fermi arc behavior
in the pseudogap phase from the tunneling and angle-resolved photoemission
spectroscopy experiments. Our results indicate an excellent agreement between
the two experiments, which is in favor of the precursor pairing view of the
pseudogap.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Franck-Condon Effect in Central Spin System
We study the quantum transitions of a central spin surrounded by a
collective-spin environment. It is found that the influence of the
environmental spins on the absorption spectrum of the central spin can be
explained with the analog of the Franck-Condon (FC) effect in conventional
electron-phonon interaction system. Here, the collective spins of the
environment behave as the vibrational mode, which makes the electron to be
transitioned mainly with the so-called "vertical transitions" in the
conventional FC effect. The "vertical transition" for the central spin in the
spin environment manifests as, the certain collective spin states of the
environment is favored, which corresponds to the minimal change in the average
of the total spin angular momentum.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Phase diagram for a class of spin-half Heisenberg models interpolating between the square-lattice, the triangular-lattice and the linear chain limits
We study the spin-half Heisenberg models on an anisotropic two-dimensional
lattice which interpolates between the square-lattice at one end, a set of
decoupled spin-chains on the other end, and the triangular-lattice Heisenberg
model in between. By series expansions around two different dimer ground states
and around various commensurate and incommensurate magnetically ordered states,
we establish the phase diagram for this model of a frustrated antiferromagnet.
We find a particularly rich phase diagram due to the interplay of magnetic
frustration, quantum fluctuations and varying dimensionality. There is a large
region of the usual 2-sublattice Ne\'el phase, a 3-sublattice phase for the
triangular-lattice model, a region of incommensurate magnetic order around the
triangular-lattice model, and regions in parameter space where there is no
magnetic order. We find that the incommensurate ordering wavevector is in
general altered from its classical value by quantum fluctuations. The regime of
weakly coupled chains is particularly interesting and appears to be nearly
critical.Comment: RevTeX, 15 figure
