    The B(Bs)D(s)PB(B_s)\to D_{(s)} P, D(s)VD_{(s)} V, D(s)PD_{(s)}^{*}P and D(s)VD_{(s)}^{*}V decays in the perturbative QCD approach

    Two-body non-leptonic charmed decays B(s)D(s)PB_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}P, D(s)PD_{(s)}^*P, D(s)VD_{(s)}V and D(s)VD_{(s)}^*V are analyzed in perturbative QCD approach, where PP and VV denote the light pseudoscalar meson and vector meson, respectively. We test the DD meson wave function by a χ2\chi^2 fit with experimental data of six BDPB\to DP channels. We give the branching ratios of all the charmed B decay channels, most of which agree with experiments amazingly well. The predicted BsB_s decays can be confronted with the future experimental data. By straightforward calculations, our pQCD approach gives the right relative strong phase of a2/a1a_2/a_1 with experiments. We also predict the percentage of transverse polarizations in B(s)DVB_{(s)} \to D^* V decay channels.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figure

    A reduction of the resonant three-wave interaction to the generic sixth Painleve' equation

    Measuring Flavor Mixing with Minimal Flavor Violation at the LHC

    The mixing between third and second (or first) generation squarks is very small in supersymmetric models with minimal flavor violation such as gauge-, anomaly- or gaugino-mediation. An opportunity to measure this mixing will arise if the lightest stop is close enough in mass to the lightest neutralino, so that the decays into third generation quarks are kinematically forbidden.     Rare B decays and Tevatron top-pair asymmetry

    The recent Tevatron result on the top quark forward-backward asymmetry, which deviates from its standard model prediction by 3.4σ\sigma, has prompted many authors to build new models to account for this anomaly. Among the various proposals, we find that those mechanisms which produce ttˉt\bar t via tt- or uu-channel can have a strong correlation to the rare B decays. We demonstrate this link by studying a model with a new charged gauge boson, WW'. In terms of the current measurements on BπKB\to \pi K decays, we conclude that the branching ratio for BπKˉ0B^-\to \pi^- \bar K^0 is affected most by the new effects. Furthermore, using the world average branching ratio for the exclusive B decays at 2σ2\sigma level, we discuss the allowed values for the new parameters.     Hard Interactions of Quarks and Gluons: a Primer for LHC Physics

    In this review article, we develop the perturbative framework for the calculation of hard scattering processes. We undertake to provide both a reasonably rigorous development of the formalism of hard scattering of quarks and gluons as well as an intuitive understanding of the physics behind the scattering. We emphasize the importance of logarithmic corrections as well as power counting of the strong coupling constant in order to understand the behavior of hard scattering processes. We include "rules of thumb" as well as "official recommendations", and where possible seek to dispel some myths.     Novel B19-like parvovirus in the brain of a harbor seal

    Using random PCR in combination with next-generation sequencing, a novel parvovirus was detected in the brain of a young harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) with chronic non-suppurative meningo-encephalitis that was rehabilitated at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC) in the Netherlands. In addition, two novel viruses belonging to the family Anelloviridae were detected in the lungs of this animal. Phylogenetic analysis of the coding sequence of the novel parvovirus, tentatively called Seal parvovirus, indicated that this virus belonged to the genus Erythrovirus , to which human parvovirus B19 also belongs. Although no other seals with similar signs were rehabilitated in SRRC in recent years, a prevalence study of tissues of seals from the same area collected in the period 2008-2012 indicated that the Seal parvovirus has circulated in the

    Study of Bˉ0D0μ+μ\bar B^0 \to D^0 \mu^+\mu^- Decay in Perturbative QCD Approach

    Within the perturbative QCD approach and ignoring the contributions of long distance and subleading penguin loops, we investigate Bˉ0D0μ+μ\bar B^0 \to D^0 \mu^+\mu^- decay in the large recoiling kinematic region in the Standard Model. At the tree level, Bˉ0\bar B^0 decays to D0D^0 by exchanging a WW boson accompanied by a virtual photon emission from the valence quarks of Bˉ0\bar B^0 and D0D^0 meson, then the virtual photon decays to the lepton pair. Numerically, we find that the branching ratio decreases rapidly as the q2q^2 increases, and the branching ratio of Bˉ0D0μ+μ \bar B^0\to D^0\mu^+\mu^- is (9.73.2+4.2)×106(9.7_{-3.2}^{+4.2})\times 10^{-6} in the region q2[1,5]GeV2q^2 \in [1,5] \mathrm{GeV}^2. The order of the branching ratio shows a possibility to study this interesting channel in the current BB factories and the Large Hadron Collider.     Discovery of a morphologically and genetically distinct population of Black-tailed Godwits in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway

    Occurring across Eurasia, the Black-tailed GodwitLimosa limosahas three recognized subspecies,melanuroides,limosaandislandicafrom east to west, respectively. With the smallest body size,melanuroideshas been considered the only subspecies in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Yet, observations along the Chinese coast indicated the presence of distinctively large individuals. Here we compared the morphometrics of these larger birds captured in northern Bohai Bay, China, with those of the three known subspecies and explore the genetic population structuring of Black-tailed Godwits based on the control region of the mitochondrial genome (mtDNA). We found that the Bohai Godwits were indeed significantly larger thanmelanuroides, resemblinglimosamore thanislandica, but with relatively longer bills thanislandica. The level of genetic differentiation between Bohai Godwits and the three recognized subspecies was of similar magnitude to the differentiation among previously recognized subspecies. Based on these segregating morphological and genetic characteristics, we propose that these birds belong to a distinct population, which may be treated and described as a new subspecies

    Systems signatures reveal unique remission-path of Type 2 diabetes following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery

    Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass surgery (RYGB) is emerging as a powerful tool for treatment of obesity and may also cause remission of type 2 diabetes. However, the molecular mechanism of RYGB leading to diabetes remission independent of weight loss remains elusive. In this study, we profiled plasma metabolites and proteins of 10 normal glucose-tolerant obese (NO) and 9 diabetic obese (DO) patients before and 1-week, 3-months, 1-year after RYGB. 146 proteins and 128 metabolites from both NO and DO groups at all four stages were selected for further analysis. By analyzing a set of bi-molecular associations among the corresponding network of the subjects with our newly developed computational method, we defined the represented physiological states (called the edge-states that reflect the interactions among the bio-molecules), and the related molecular networks of NO and DO patients, respectively. The principal component analyses (PCA) revealed that the edge states of the post-RYGB NO subjects were significantly different from those of the post-RYGB DO patients. Particularly, the time-dependent changes of the molecular hub-networks differed between DO and NO groups after RYGB. In conclusion, by developing molecular network-based systems signatures, we for the first time reveal that RYGB generates a unique path for diabetes remission independent of weight loss
