Profitability Evaluation and Ranking of Indian Non-Life Insurance Firms using GRA and TOPSIS

    Get PDF
This paper evaluates the profitability of the Indian non-life insurance firms in the period 2008-2013 using multi criteria decision analysis methods :GRA and TOPSIS based on the profitability ratios. Also, ranking of the non-life insurance firms is arrived. Few studies on efficiency of Indian non-life insurance firms using different DEA models were studied, but the number of inputs and outputs considered are very few as the DEA convention doesn't allow number of DMUs more than three times the sum of inputs and outputs. But, the profitability evaluation involves more number of decision variables considered in efficiency studies using DEA models. This paper addresses this gap by evaluating the profitability of the alternative non-life firms with more number of decision variables or criteria using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis: GRA and TOPSIS Keywords: Non-life Insurance, Profitability, GRA,TOPSI

Bianchi type-II cosmological model: some remarks

Within the framework of Bianchi type-II (BII) cosmological model the behavior of matter distribution has been considered. It is shown that the non-zero off-diagonal component of Einstein tensor implies some severe restriction on the choice of matter distribution. In particular for a locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-II (LRS BII) space-time it is proved that the matter distribution should be strictly isotropic if the corresponding matter field possesses only non-zero diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor.Comment: 3 page

Real Coded Binary Artificial Bee Colony (RC-BABC) Based Feature Selection and Relieff Based Feature Extraction Techniques for Heart Disease Prediction

Diagnosing heart disease is really a challenging task for which several intelligent diagnostic systems were developed for enhancing the performance of diagnosing heart disease. However, in these systems, low accuracy of predicting heart disease is still a challenging task. To provide better accuracy in predicting heart risks, a novel feature selection approach is proposed which employs Real Coded Binary Artificial Bee Colony (RC-BABC) optimization algorithm with adaptive size for feature elimination. This method has the advantages of reducing algorithmic computational time, improving prediction accuracy, enhanced data quality, and saves resources in successive data collection phases. Once the features are selected, the important feature extraction phase uses ReliefF based feature extraction method to extract the features from the heart disease data set. The scores of features are computed by estimating a comparison of feature values and class values neighbor samples. The proposed Real Coded Binary Artificial Bee Colony (RC-BABC) optimization algorithm is compared with three well known methods namely an artificial neural network (ANN), K-means clustering approach and Classification and Regression Algorithm (C&RT) with measures like accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score. The proposed method achieved 96.77% of accuracy,98.8% of recall, 97.8% of precision and 98.34% of F1-score

The Reflection of Quasi Waves at Free Boundary of a Fibre-Reinforced Medium

The propagation of plane waves in fibre-reinforced medium is discussed. The expressions of phase velocity of quasi-P (qP) and quasi-SV (qSV) waves propagating in plane symmetry are obtained in terms of propagation vector. We have established a relation from which displacement vector can be obtained in terms of propagation vector. The expressions for the reflection coefficients of qP and qSV waves are obtained. Numerical results of reflection coefficients are obtained and presented graphically. The partition of energy between qP and qSV waves reflected on a free boundary due to incident qP and qSV waves are also obtained and presented graphically

A Multi Phase Transformation System Using a Special Transformer Connection

This paper proposes a novel transformer connection scheme to convert the three phase grid supply to a five-phase fixed voltage and fixed frequency supply. The output transformer connection outputs five phases can be used in applications requiring a five-phase supply. Multi-phase motor drives have been studied from more than thirty years. The interest has grown so that some international power electronic conferences have hosted sessions on the multi-phase motor drives. Generally, multi-phase machines drive has many advantages over conventional three-phase drive such as high power handling capability by dividing the required power between multiple phases, reduced torque pulsations and higher reliability. Three phase drive, the loss of stator phase does not prevent the machine from starting and running. The main advantages of multi-phase systems are reduced rotor harmonic currents, increased torque per ampere for the same volume machine, reduced stator copper losses. The main application areas of multiphase induction motor drives are ship propulsion, traction (including electric and hybrid electric vehicles) and the concept of more-electric aircraft. A difference between Three-Phase supply and Five-Phase supply. Other suitable applications are locomotive traction aerospace and high power applications. Presently the grid power available is only limited to three-phase so the supply to multi-phase motors is invariably given from power electronic converters
