Enhanced longitudinal mode spacing in blue-violet InGaN semiconductor laser
A novel explanation of observed enhanced longitudinal mode spacing in InGaN
semiconductor lasers has been proposed. It has been demonstrated that e-h
plasma oscillations, which can exist in the laser active layer at certain
driving conditions, are responsible for mode clustering effect. The resonant
excitation of the plasma oscillations occurs due to longitudinal mode beating.
The separation of mode clusters is typically by an order of magnitude larger
that the individual mode spacing.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
Magnetic properties and magnetostructural phase transitions in Ni2+xMn1-xGa shape memory alloys
A systematic study of magnetic properties of Ni2+xMn1-xGa (0 \le x \le 0.19)
Heusler alloys undergoing structural martensite-austenite transformations while
in ferromagnetic state has been performed. From measurements of spontaneous
magnetization, Ms(T), jumps \Delta M at structural phase transitions were
determined. Virtual Curie temperatures of the martensite were estimated from
the comparison of magnetization in martensitic and austenitic phases. Both
saturation magnetic moments in ferromagnetic state and effective magnetic
moments in paramagnetic state of Mn and Ni atoms were estimated and the
influence of delocalization effects on magnetism in these alloys was discussed.
The experimental results obtained show that the shift of martensitic transition
temperature depends weakly on composition. The values of this shift are in good
correspondence with Clapeyron-Clausius formalism taking into account the
experimental data on latent heat at martensite-austenite transformations.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
A multiloop improvement of non-singlet QCD evolution equations
An approach is elaborated for calculation of "all loop" contributions to the
non-singlet evolution kernels from the diagrams with renormalon chain
insertions. Closed expressions are obtained for sums of contributions to
kernels for the DGLAP equation and for the "nonforward" ER-BL
equation from these diagrams that dominate for a large value of , the
first -function coefficient. Calculations are performed in the covariant
-gauge in a MS-like scheme. It is established that a special choice of the
gauge parameter generalizes the standard "naive nonabelianization"
approximation. The solutions are obtained to the ER-BL evolution equation
(taken at the "all loop" improved kernel), which are in form similar to
one-loop solutions. A consequence for QCD descriptions of hard processes and

Magnetic properties of Ni2.18Mn0.82Ga Heusler alloys with a coupled magnetostructural transition
Polycrystalline Ni2.18Mn0.82Ga Heusler alloys with a coupled
magnetostructural transition are studied by differential scanning calorimetry,
magnetic and resistivity measurements. Coupling of the magnetic and structural
subsystems results in unusual magnetic features of the alloy. These uncommon
magnetic properties of Ni2.18Mn0.82Ga are attributed to the first-order
structural transition from a tetragonal ferromagnetic to a cubic paramagnetic

Energy levels and lifetimes of Gd IV and enhancement of the electron dipole moment
We have calculated energy levels and lifetimes of 4f7 and 4f6 5d
configurations of Gd IV using Hartree-Fock and configuration interaction
methods. This allows us to reduce significantly the uncertainty of the
theoretical determination of the electron electric dipole moment (EDM)
enhancement factor in this ion and, correspondingly, in gadolinium-containing
garnets for which such measurements were recently proposed. Our new value for
the EDM enhancement factor of Gd+3 is -2.2 +- 0.5. Calculations of energy

Investigation of thermal and magnetic properties of defects in a spin-gap compound NaV2O5
The specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and ESR signals of a Na-deficient
vanadate Na_xV_2O_5 (x=1.00 - 0.90) were studied in the temperature range 0.07
- 10 K, well below the transition point to a spin-gap state. The contribution
of defects provided by sodium vacancies to the specific heat was observed. It
has a low temperature part which does not tend to zero till at least 0.3 K and
a high temperature power-like tail appears above 2 K. Such dependence may
correspond to the existence of local modes and correlations between defects in
V-O layers. The magnetic measurements and ESR data reveal S=1/2 degrees of
freedom for the defects, with their effective number increasing in temperature
and under magnetic field. The latter results in the nonsaturating magnetization
at low temperature. No long-range magnetic ordering in the system of defects
was found. A model for the defects based on electron jumps near vacancies is
proposed to explain the observed effects. The concept of a frustrated
two-dimensional correlated magnet induced by the defects is considered to be
responsible for the absence of magnetic ordering.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figure
Infrared and Raman spectra of LiV2O5 single crystals
The phonon dynamics of LiV2O5 single crystals is studied using infrared and
Raman spectroscopy techniques. The infrared-active phonon frequencies and
dielectric constants are obtained by oscillator fitting procedure of the
reflectivity data measured at room temperature. The Raman scattering spectra
are measured at room temperature and at T=10 K in all nonequivalent polarized
configurations. The assignment of the phonons is done by comparing the infrared
and Raman spectra of LiV2O5 and NaV2O5. The factor-group-analysis of the LiV2O5
crystal symmetry and of its constituent layers is performed to explain the
symmetry properties of the observed modes. We concluded that layer symmetry
dominates in the vibrational properties of this compound.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Anomalous scaling of passively advected magnetic field in the presence of strong anisotropy
Inertial-range scaling behavior of high-order (up to order N=51) structure
functions of a passively advected vector field has been analyzed in the
framework of the rapid-change model with strong small-scale anisotropy with the
aid of the renormalization group and the operator-product expansion. It has
been shown that in inertial range the leading terms of the structure functions
are coordinate independent, but powerlike corrections appear with the same
anomalous scaling exponents as for the passively advected scalar field. These
exponents depend on anisotropy parameters in such a way that a specific
hierarchy related to the degree of anisotropy is observed. Deviations from
power-law behavior like oscillations or logarithmic behavior in the corrections
to structure functions have not been found.Comment: 15 pages, 18 figure
Magnetic Resonance of the Intrinsic Defects of the Spin-Peierls Magnet CuGeO3
ESR of the pure monocrystals of CuGeO3 is studied in the frequency range 9-75
GHz and in the temperature interval 1.2-25 K. The splitting of the ESR line
into several spectral components is observed below 5 K, in the temperature
range where the magnetic susceptibility is suppressed by the spin-Peierls
dimerization. The analysis of the magnetic resonance signals allows one to
separate the signals of the S=1/2- and S=1 defects of the spin-Peierls phase.
The value of g-factor of these signals is close to that of the Cu-ion. The
additional line of the magnetic resonance is characterized by an anomalous
value of the g-factor and by the threshold-like increase of the microwave
susceptibility when the microwave power is increasing. The ESR signals are
supposingly attributed to two types of the planar magnetic defects, arising at
the boundaries of the domains of the spin-Peierls state with the different
