Further Series Studies of the Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet at T=0: Magnon Dispersion and Structure Factors
We have extended our previous series studies of quantum antiferromagnets at
zero temperature by computing the one-magnon dispersion curves and various
structure factors for the linear chain, square and simple cubic lattices. Many
of these results are new; others are a substantial extension of previous work.
These results are directly comparable with neutron scattering experiments and
we make such comparisons where possible.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, revised versio
Absence of Conventional Spin-Glass Transition in the Ising Dipolar System LiHo_xY_{1-x}F_4
The magnetic properties of single crystals of LiHo_xY_{1-x}F_4 with x=16.5%
and x=4.5% were recorded down to 35 mK using a micro-SQUID magnetometer. While
this system is considered as the archetypal quantum spin glass, the detailed
analysis of our magnetization data indicates the absence of a phase transition,
not only in a transverse applied magnetic field, but also without field. A
zero-Kelvin phase transition is also unlikely, as the magnetization seems to
follow a non-critical exponential dependence on the temperature. Our analysis
thus unmasks the true, short-ranged nature of the magnetic properties of the
LiHo_xY_{1-x}F_4 system, validating recent theoretical investigations
suggesting the lack of phase transition in this system.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
From incommensurate correlations to mesoscopic spin resonance in YbRh2Si2
Spin fluctuations are reported near the magnetic field driven quantum
critical point in YbRh2Si2. On cooling, ferromagnetic fluctuations evolve into
incommensurate correlations located at q0=+/- (delta,delta) with delta=0.14 +/-
0.04 r.l.u. At low temperatures, an in plane magnetic field induces a sharp
intra doublet resonant excitation at an energy E0=g muB mu0 H with g=3.8 +/-
0.2. The intensity is localized at the zone center indicating precession of
spin density extending xi=6 +/- 2 A beyond the 4f site.Comment: (main text - 4 pages, 4 figures; supplementary information - 3 pages,
