Identity, enactment and entrepreneurship engagement in a declining place.
We examine entrepreneurship practice and identity work in a rural small town in New Zealand. Once prosperous, the town suffered economically and socially as old industries closed. Recently the town was rejuvenated, at least in part because of the entrepreneurial endeavours of Linda. Our findings demonstrated conflict between her entrepreneurial identity and local sense of place. We theorise Linda's entrepreneurial identity in her business practice, where she experienced controversy despite economic success. We argue that a complete understanding of identity and entrepreneurship practices requires attention to social and spatial processes, not just economic processes
Nano- and microscopic surface wrinkles of linearly increasing heights prepared by periodic precipitation
Arrays of surface wrinkles of linearly increasing heights (from tens of nanometers to tens of micrometers) were prepared via a spontaneous reaction-diffusion process based on periodic precipitation. The slopes, dimensions, and positions of the precipitation bands could be controlled precisely by adjusting the concentrations of the participating chemicals as well as the material properties of patterned substrates. Additional control of periodic precipitation by localized UV irradiation allowed for the preparation of discontinuous and curvilinear structures. The nonbinary 3D surface topographies were replicated into poly(dimethylsiloxane), and the applications of replicas in microfluidics, microseparations, and cell biology have been suggested
An insight into the redox activity of Ru and Os complexes of the N,N′-bis(2-pyridyl)benzene-1,2-diamine ligand: structural, electrochemical and electronic structure analysis by density functional theory calculations
The synthesis of Ru and Os complexes of the ligand, N,N′-bis(2-pyridyl)benzene-1,2-diamine namely, [Ru-¹¹¹(acac)₂(Py-bqdi)], (9), (Ru-¹¹(Ph-trpy)(Py-bqdi)Cl], (10) and (Os-¹¹(bpy)₂(Py-bqdi)](ClO₄), ([11]ClO₄) [where Py-bqdi = N,N′-dipyridyl-o-benzoquinonediimine, acac = 2,4-pentanedionate, Ph-trpy = 4'-phenyl-2,2′:6′,2″ -terpyridine, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine] is reported. The molecular structures of complexes 9-[11]ClO₄ are authenticated by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The electronic structural properties of the complexes, in particular, the accessible oxidized/reduced forms of the complexes, are examined by using an array of analytical techniques (magnetic resonance, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy and electrochemistry). Comprehensive Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations have also been carried out to provide additional support to the experimental work
