QCD resummation in the framework of supersymmetry

Motivated by current searches for electroweak superpartners at the Large Hadron Collider, we present precision predictions for pair production of such particles in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We make use of various QCD resummation formalisms and match the results to pure perturbative QCD computations. We study the impact of scale variations and compare our results to predictions obtained by means of traditionally used Monte Carlo event generators.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, contribution to the proceedings of Moriond QCD 201

Precision predictions for direct gaugino and slepton production at the LHC

The search for electroweak superpartners has recently moved to the centre of interest at the LHC. We provide the currently most precise theoretical predictions for these particles, use them to assess the precision of parton shower simulations, and reanalyse public experimental results assuming more general decompositions of gauginos and sleptons.Comment: 5 pages, 2 tables, 5 figures, proceedings of ICHEP 201

Revisiting slepton pair production at the Large Hadron Collider

Motivated by the shift in experimental attention towards electroweak supersymmetric particle production at the CERN LHC, we update in this paper our precision predictions at next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD matched to resummation at the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy for direct slepton pair production in proton-proton collisions. Simplified models, now commonly adopted by the experimental collaborations for selectrons and smuons as well as mixing staus, are used as benchmarks for total cross sections at achieved and future center-of-mass energies. They are presented together with the corresponding scale and parton density uncertainties in graphical and tabular form for future reference. Using modern Monte Carlo techniques, we also reanalyze recent ATLAS and CMS slepton searches in light of our precision cross sections and for various assumptions on the decomposition of the sleptons and their neutralino decay products.Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables; version accepted by JHE

Electroweak top-quark pair production at the LHC with Z′Z' bosons to NLO QCD in POWHEG

We present the calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the electroweak production of top-antitop pairs at the CERN LHC in the presence of a new neutral gauge boson. The corrections are implemented in the parton shower Monte Carlo program POWHEG. Standard Model (SM) and new physics interference effects are properly taken into account. QED singularities, first appearing at this order, are consistently subtracted. Numerical results are presented for SM and Z′Z' total cross sections and distributions in invariant mass, transverse momentum, azimuthal angle and rapidity of the top-quark pair. The remaining theoretical uncertainty from scale and PDF variations is estimated, and the potential of the charge asymmetry to distinguish between new physics models is investigated for the Sequential SM and a leptophobic topcolor model.Comment: 33 pages, 15 figures, 1 table. NLO+NLL limits on W′W' and Z′Z' gauge boson masses

QCD resummation predictions for the production of new charged (W′W') and neutral (Z′Z') heavy gauge bosons decaying leptonically are presented. These results are obtained with our resummation code at next-to-leading order and next-to-leading logarithmic (NLO+NLL) accuracy. Our predictions are compared to PYTHIA at leading order (LO) supplemented with parton showers (PS) and FEWZ at NLO and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) for the pTp_T-differential and total cross sections in the Sequential Standard Model (SSM) and general SU(2)×\timesSU(2)×\timesU(1) models. We show that the importance of resummation for total cross sections increases with the gauge boson mass. Finally, the latest ATLAS and CMS results are reinterpreted to derive new limits at NLO+NLL on W′W' and Z′Z' boson masses in general extensions of the Standard Model.Comment: Proceeding of the XXIII International Workshop on Deep Inelastic Scattering and Related Subjects, April 27 - May 1, 2015, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texa

NLO+NLL limits on W' and Z' gauge boson masses in general extensions of the Standard Model

QCD resummation predictions for the production of charged (W') and neutral (Z') heavy gauge bosons decaying leptonically are presented. The results of our resummation code at next-to-leading order and next-to-leading logarithmic (NLO+NLL) accuracy are compared to Monte Carlo predictions obtained with PYTHIA at leading order (LO) supplemented with parton showers (PS) and FEWZ at NLO and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) for the pTp_T-differential and total cross sections in the Sequential Standard Model (SSM) and general SU(2)xSU(2)xU(1) models. The LO+PS Monte Carlo and NNLO fixed-order predictions are shown to agree approximately with those at NLO+NLL at small and intermediate pTp_T, respectively, and the importance of resummation for total cross sections is shown to increase with the gauge boson mass. The theoretical uncertainties are estimated by variations of the renormalisation/factorisation scales and of the parton densities, the former being significantly reduced by the resummation procedure. New limits at NLO+NLL on W' and Z' boson masses are obtained by reinterpreting the latest ATLAS and CMS results in general extensions of the Standard Model.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figures, 6 table

Jet photoproduction and the structure of the photon

    Get PDF
Various jet observables in photoproduction are studied and compared to data from HERA. The feasibility of using a dijet sample for constraining the parton distributions in the photon is then studied. For the current data the experimental and theoretical uncertainties are comparable to the variation due to changing the photon parton distribution set.Comment: 20 pages including 11 figures. An NLO calculation of the electroproduction of large-E_\bot hadrons

We present a Next-to-Leading Order calculation of the cross section for the leptoproduction of large-E⊥E_{\bot} hadrons and we compare our predictions with H1 data on the forward production of π0\pi^0. We find large higher order corrections and an important sensitivity to the renormalization and factorization scales. These large corrections are shown to arise in part from BFKL-like diagrams at the lowest order.Comment: 24 pages, plain LaTeX2e, 10 figure
