On the average Gamma-Ray Burst X-ray flaring activity
Gamma-ray burst X-ray flares are believed to mark the late time activity of
the central engine. We compute the temporal evolution of the average flare
luminosity in the common rest frame energy band of 44 GRBs taken from
the large \emph{Swift} 5-years data base. Our work highlights the importance of
a proper consideration of the threshold of detection of flares against the
contemporaneous continuous X-ray emission. In the time interval ; this implies
that the flare isotropic energy scaling is . The decay of the continuum underlying the flare emission closely
tracks the average flare luminosity evolution, with a typical flare to
steep-decay luminosity ratio which is : this
suggests that flares and continuum emission are deeply related to one another.
We infer on the progenitor properties considering different models. According
to the hyper-accreting black hole scenario, the average flare luminosity
scaling can be obtained in the case of rapid accretion () or
when the last \sim 0.5 M_{\sun} of the original 14 M_{\sun} progenitor star
are accreted. Alternatively, the steep behaviour could be
triggered by a rapid outward expansion of an accretion shock in the material
feeding a convective disk. If instead we assume the engine to be a rapidly
spinning magnetar, then its rotational energy can be extracted to power a jet
whose luminosity is likely to be between the monopole () and
dipole () cases. In both scenarios we suggest the variability,
which is the main signature of the flaring activity, to be established as a
consequence of different kinds of instabilities.Comment: MNRAS accepte
Anti-correlation and subsector structure in financial systems
With the random matrix theory, we study the spatial structure of the Chinese
stock market, American stock market and global market indices. After taking
into account the signs of the components in the eigenvectors of the
cross-correlation matrix, we detect the subsector structure of the financial
systems. The positive and negative subsectors are anti-correlated each other in
the corresponding eigenmode. The subsector structure is strong in the Chinese
stock market, while somewhat weaker in the American stock market and global
market indices. Characteristics of the subsector structures in different
markets are revealed.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, 4 table
Ultracold heteronuclear molecules and ferroelectric superfluids
We analyze the possibility of a ferroelectric transition in heteronuclear
molecules consisting of Bose-Bose, Bose-Fermi or Fermi-Fermi atom pairs. This
transition is characterized by the appearance of a spontaneous electric
polarization below a critical temperature. We discuss the existence of a
ferroelectric Fermi liquid phase for Fermi molecules and the existence of a
ferroelectric superfluid phase for Bose molecules characterized by the
coexistence of ferroelectric and superfluid orders. Lastly, we propose an
experiment to detect ferroelectric correlations through the observation of
coherent dipole radiation pulses during time of flight.Comment: 4 pages and 3 figure
Isolated Galaxies versus Interacting Pairs with MaNGA
We present preliminary results of the spectral analysis on the radial
distributions of the star formation history in both, a galaxy merger and a
spiral isolated galaxy observed with MaNGA. We find that the central part of
the isolated galaxy is composed by older stellar population (2 Gyr) than
in the outskirts (7 Gyr). Also, the time-scale is gradually larger from 1
Gyr in the inner part to 3 Gyr in the outer regions of the galaxy. In the case
of the merger, the stellar population in the central region is older than in
the tails, presenting a longer time-scale in comparison to central part in the
isolated galaxy. Our results are in agreement with a scenario where spiral
galaxies are built from inside-out. In the case of the merger, we find evidence
that interactions enhance star formation in the central part of the galaxy.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures. Proceedings of the EWASS-2015 special session

Electrical networks on -simplex fractals
The decimation map for a network of admittances on an
-simplex lattice fractal is studied. The asymptotic behaviour of
for large-size fractals is examined. It is found that in the
vicinity of the isotropic point the eigenspaces of the linearized map are
always three for ; they are given a characterization in terms of
graph theory. A new anisotropy exponent, related to the third eigenspace, is
found, with a value crossing over from to

Electroweak Theory Without Higgs Bosons
A perturbative SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y electroweak theory containing W, Z, photon,
ghost, lepton and quark fields, but no Higgs or other fields, gives masses to
W, Z and the non-neutrino fermions by means of an unconventional choice for the
unperturbed Lagrangian and a novel method of renormalisation. The
renormalisation extends to all orders. The masses emerge on renormalisation to
one loop. To one loop the neutrinos are massless, the A -> Z transition drops
out of the theory, the d quark is unstable and S-matrix elements are
independent of the gauge parameter xi.Comment: 27 pages, LaTex, no figures; revised for publication; accepted by

Polarization-squeezed light formation in a medium with electronic Kerr nonlinearity
We analyze the formation of polarization-squeezed light in a medium with
electronic Kerr nonlinearity. Quantum Stokes parameters are considered and the
spectra of their quantum fluctuations are investigated. It is established that
the frequency at which the suppression of quantum fluctuations is the greatest
can be controlled by adjusting the linear phase difference between pulses. We
shown that by varying the intensity or the nonlinear phase shift per photon for
one pulse, one can effectively control the suppression of quantum fluctuations
of the quantum Stokes parameters.Comment: final version, RevTeX, 10 pages, 5 eps figure
