The importance of traditional architecture and planning of Kanchipuram is expressed through a set of objective and subjective map based indicators. The analysis is done at the block level. The results brings out values expressing the epitome of the traditional architecture and planning. The paper presents the map based analysis of the traditional core. The map based analysis perceives changes in the tissues of the study area. The paper emphasizes the importance of social activities as a key to good urban life. The importance of social activities in par with physical component holding it is also presented. A subjective note on climatic considerations at the block level is given based on observations. To compliment conservation measures, a feasibility study to revamp vernacular elements in the modern facades of the city is probed. Stated preference survey method was adopted for the feasibility study. Emphasis is given to public participation and professional involvement in the process of planning and implementing conservation measures. The measures shall realize economic development and life processes. Further certain morale ethics involved in the process methods of planning is discussed. Though the changes are high; the city upholds bright quos towards conservation pertaining to acceptance of traditional aspects and the urge for socialization

The Likert Organisational Profile: Methodological Analysis and Test of System 4T in Tourist Destinations

In the working paper (Butterfield & Farris 1974), which was done at Massachusetts Institute of Technology,20 item Likert Organisational Profile (LOP) was administered twice to 256 employees in 13 Braziliandevelopment banks. Actual and ideal bank profiles were similar to those found in U.S and elsewhere. In thesaid working paper, test-retest reliability of the LOP as a whole was moderate. Here after the pilot studySystem1-4T Rensis Likert Scale has been revalidated with 17 items and the test-retest reliability has beentested with Karl Pearsons Coefficient of Correlation over two time series with stronger correlation coefficientof .88. In the organisational climate survey, median averages have been taken in order to measure theorganisational health. It has been found that the organisational health at tourist destinations improved afterthe OD interventions, the said fact is doubly checked with direct employee feedback. So it is corroborated with valid data that System 1-4T is a reliable tool to apply in organisational health and hence to rectifyorganisational pathologies.Key Words: LOP, Test-retest reliability, Organisational Health, Median Averag

Organizational citizenship behavior and job involvement of Indian private sector employees using visual PLS–SEM model

The organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), which is explained as a discretionary behavior of employees, is inevitable in the global competitive scenario, because organizations are highly competitive and their differentiation is primarily related to people. The organizational citizenship is considered as a “contextual performance”, which is related to the specific non-task aspects. Such a “state of the art” performance is possible only when employees are treated with utmost care. Therefore, the study on OCB, with its six dimensions (altruism, conscientiousness, civic virtue, interactional justice, recognition practices, procedural justice practice), is vital in management literature. The current study analyzed the relationship of OCB with its six dimensions with job involvement using Partial Least Square based Structural Equation Modelling (SEM)

New Learning Theory and its Resultant Impact on Achieving Economic Objectives: An Experimental Organisation Development (OD) Approach with respect to Local Tourist Guides at Thenmala and Periyar Tiger Reserve

There are different approaches to OD. But all models of OD is concerned with behaviour modification of employees and hence to improve their efficiency and that of the organisation. Here the researcher has developed Variable Analysis Model of OD. The concept is very simple if any problem of the employee in his internal or external environment (Independent Variable) gets sorted out; it would result in behaviour modification (Dependent Variable) of the employee. Here when the tourist service quality problems got sorted out through REL, it resulted in behaviour modification of the local tourist guides. Behaviour modification led to lower level of tourist complaints and greater economic benefits for the local tourist guides. When REL was applied, tourist complaints came down to below one percent in Thenmala and PTR. In both the destinations, there is a significant improvement in local tourist guides' economic benefits after the introduction of REL. Less complaints from the part of tourists, obviously show greater customer satisfaction. When the customer satisfaction levels of tourists improved considerably, it resulted in generous tip from their part. It has been empirically proved that behaviour modification of local tourist guides' is negatively correlated with problems in their working environment. Hence the research hypothesis stands. In the present work, Latin Square Design (LSD) was applied to find the best supplementary nitrogen source for extracellular L-asparaginase production by Aspergillus terreus MTCC 1782 using corn flour as substrate in submerged fermentation. The independent effect of supplementary nitrogen source such as ammonium chloride, urea and sodium nitrate was studied on growth and production of L-asparaginase by A. terreus. Statistical significance of the nitrogen sources was studied by performing analysis of variance (ANOVA) and graphical ANOVA for LSD using Data plot software. It was found that there is no significant difference on growth due to the change in supplementary nitrogen source studied. Urea was identified as best supplementary nitrogen source with mean L-asparaginase production of 33.25 IU mL–1 and mean biomass production of 12.99 mg mL–1

Overexpression of hIGF-1 exclusively in skeletal muscle increases the number of dihydropyridine receptors in adult transgenic mice

AbstractThe number of dihydropyridine receptors (DHPR) and sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca2+ release channels (RyR1) and their interaction determine the efficacy of the sarcolemmal excitation-SR Ca2+ release-contraction coupling (ECC). Both receptors play a central role in ECC as demonstrated in various animal species and muscle subtypes. In the present work we studied the effect of transgenic overexpression of human insulin-like growth factor 1 (hIGF-1) on the levels of these two Ca2+ channels in extensor digitorum longus (EDL) (fast-twitch), soleus (slow-twitch) and pool of fast- and slow-twitch muscles from adult C57BL/6 mice. Muscles from hIGF-1 transgenic mice showed a significant increase in IGF-1 concentration (20–30-fold) and in the number of DHPR (52% increase) whereas no significant change in RyR1 binding sites was detected. The differential effect on DHPR and RyR1 resulted in a 30% increase in DHPR/RyR1 ratio. Fast- and slow-twitch muscles showed 50 and 70% increase in the number of DHPR and 30 and 80% increase in DHPR/RyR1, respectively. These results support the concept that the increased autocrine/paracrine secretion of hIGF-1 exerts potent stimulatory effects on DHPR α1 subunit expression in adult skeletal muscle
