Fourier domain preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm for atmospheric tomography
By 'atmospheric tomography' we mean the estimation of a layered atmospheric turbulence profile from measurements of the pupil-plane phase (or phase gradients) corresponding to several different guide star directions. We introduce what we believe to be a new Fourier domain preconditioned conjugate gradient (FD-PCG) algorithm for atmospheric tomography, and we compare its performance against an existing multigrid preconditioned conjugate gradient (MG-PCG) approach. Numerical results indicate that on conventional serial computers, FD-PCG is as accurate and robust as MG-PCG, but it is from one to two orders of magnitude faster for atmospheric tomography on 30 m class telescopes. Simulations are carried out for both natural guide stars and for a combination of finite-altitude laser guide stars and natural guide stars to resolve tip-tilt uncertainty
Pseudogap and Fermi-arc Evolution in the Phase-fluctuation Scenario
Pseudogap phenomena and the formation of Fermi arcs in underdoped cuprates
are numerically studied in the presence of phase fluctuations that are
simulated by an XY model. Most importantly the spectral function for each Monte
Carlo sample is calculated directly and efficiently by the Chebyshev
polynomials without having to diagonalize the fermion Hamiltonian, which
enables us to handle a system large enough to achieve sufficient
momentum/energy resolution. We find that the momentum dependence of the energy
gap is identical to that of a pure d-wave superconductor well below the
KT-transition temperature (), while displays an upturn deviation from
with increasing temperature. An abrupt onset of the Fermi
arcs is observed above and the arc length exhibits a similar
temperature dependence to the thermally activated vortex excitations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Oscillation Phenomena in the disk around the massive black hole Sagittarius A*
We report the detection of radio QPOs with structure changes using the Very
Long Baseline Array (VLBA) at 43 GHz. We found conspicuous patterned changes of
the structure with P = 16.8 +- 1.4, 22.2 +- 1.4, 31.2 +- 1.5, 56.4 +- 6 min,
very roughly in a 3:4:6:10 ratio. The first two periods show a rotating one-arm
structure, while the P = 31.4 min shows a rotating 3-arm structure, as if
viewed edge-on. At the central 50 microasec the P = 56.4 min period shows a
double amplitude variation of those in its surroundings. Spatial distributions
of the oscillation periods suggest that the disk of SgrA* is roughly edge-on,
rotating around an axis with PA = -10 degree. Presumably, the observed VLBI
images of SgrA* at 43 GHz retain several features of the black hole accretion
disk of SgrA* in spite of being obscured and broadened by scattering of

Compact UWB Monopole for Multilayer Applications
A novel compact, dual layer UWB monopole antenna is presented. This low profile ultra-wideband antenna is fed by a 50 ? shielded strip-line with an array of metal vias making the conducting walls. A printed disc monopole with a circular cut is the radiating element. The dual layer, shielded strip line feed allows for integration in multilayer technologies. The ultra-wideband, monopole characteristics of the antenna are confirmed experimentally
The role of inter-well tunneling strength on coherence dynamics of two-species Bose-Einstein condensates
Coherence dynamics of two-species Bose-Einstein condensates in double wells
is investigated in mean field approximation. We show that the system can
exhibit decoherence phenomena even without the condensate-environment coupling
and the variation tendency of the degree of coherence depends on not only the
parameters of the system but also the initial states. We also investigate the
time evolution of the degree of coherence for a Rosen-Zener form of tunneling
strength, and propose a method to get a condensate system with certain degree
of coherence through a time-dependent tunneling strength
