Concrete-filled VHS-to-mild steel plate fabricated section stub column tests
Six stub columns fabricated using very high strength (VHS) tube and mild steel facet plates were concrete filled and tested under axial compression. Load-deformation curves were used to determine the maximum axial compressive strength of the specimens. Various standards for composite construction from Europe, North America and Australia, were used to estimate the section capacity of the composite stub columns for comparison with the maximum axial compressive strength determined experimentally. The estimation of section capacity is based on both nominal and measured material properties of the steel and concrete. Base on this comparison a recommendation is made for the formula that can be used to estimate the strength of stub columns fabricated using very high strength (VHS) tube and mild steel facet plates
