Supersymmetric sigma models and the 't Hooft instantons
Witten's linear sigma model for ADHM instantons possesses a natural
supersymmetry. We study generalizations of the infrared limit of the model that
are invariant under supersymmetry. In the case of four space-time
dimensions a background with a conformally flat metric and torsion is required.
The geometry is specified by a single real scalar function satisfying Laplace's
equation. It gives rise to 't Hooft instantons for the gauge group ,
instead of the general ADHM instantons for an gauge group in the case
.Comment: 11 pages, Latex fil
Covariant Harmonic Supergraphity for N = 2 Super Yang--Mills Theories
We review the background field method for general N = 2 super Yang-Mills
theories formulated in the N = 2 harmonic superspace. The covariant harmonic
supergraph technique is then applied to rigorously prove the N=2
non-renormalization theorem as well as to compute the holomorphic low-energy
action for the N = 2 SU(2) pure super Yang-Mills theory and the leading
non-holomorphic low-energy correction for N = 4 SU(2) super Yang-Mills theory.Comment: 17 pages, LAMUPHYS LaTeX, no figures; based on talks given by I.

The 2011 Nucleic Acids Research Database Issue and the online Molecular Biology Database Collection
The current 18th Database Issue of Nucleic Acids Research features descriptions of 96 new and 83 updated online databases covering various areas of molecular biology. It includes two editorials, one that discusses COMBREX, a new exciting project aimed at figuring out the functions of the âconserved hypotheticalâ proteins, and one concerning BioDBcore, a proposed description of the âminimal information about a biological databaseâ. Papers from the members of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database collaboration (INSDC) describe each of the participating databases, DDBJ, ENA and GenBank, principles of data exchange within the collaboration, and the recently established Sequence Read Archive. A testament to the longevity of databases, this issue includes updates on the RNA modification database, Definition of Secondary Structure of Proteins (DSSP) and Homology-derived Secondary Structure of Proteins (HSSP) databases, which have not been featured here in >12 years. There is also a block of papers describing recent progress in protein structure databases, such as Protein DataBank (PDB), PDB in Europe (PDBe), CATH, SUPERFAMILY and others, as well as databases on protein structure modeling, proteinâprotein interactions and the organization of inter-protein contact sites. Other highlights include updates of the popular gene expression databases, GEO and ArrayExpress, several cancer gene databases and a detailed description of the UK PubMed Central project. The Nucleic Acids Research online Database Collection, available at: http://www.oxfordjournals.org/nar/database/a/, now lists 1330 carefully selected molecular biology databases. The full content of the Database Issue is freely available online at the Nucleic Acids Research web site (http://nar.oxfordjournals.org/)
Nilpotent deformations of N=2 superspace
We investigate deformations of four-dimensional N=(1,1) euclidean superspace
induced by nonanticommuting fermionic coordinates. We essentially use the
harmonic superspace approach and consider nilpotent bi-differential Poisson
operators only. One variant of such deformations (termed chiral nilpotent)
directly generalizes the recently studied chiral deformation of N=(1/2,1/2)
superspace. It preserves chirality and harmonic analyticity but generically
breaks N=(1,1) to N=(1,0) supersymmetry. Yet, for degenerate choices of the
constant deformation matrix N=(1,1/2) supersymmetry can be retained, i.e. a
fraction of 3/4. An alternative version (termed analytic nilpotent) imposes
minimal nonanticommutativity on the analytic coordinates of harmonic
superspace. It does not affect the analytic subspace and respects all
supersymmetries, at the expense of chirality however. For a chiral nilpotent
deformation, we present non(anti)commutative euclidean analogs of N=2 Maxwell
and hypermultiplet off-shell actions.Comment: 1+16 pages; v2: discussion of (pseudo)conjugations extended, version

A theoretical model for single molecule incoherent scanning tunneling spectroscopy
Single molecule scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS), with dephasing due to
elastic and inelastic scattering, is of some current interest. Motivated by
this, we report an extended Huckel theory (EHT) based mean-field
Non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) transport model with electron-phonon
scattering treated within the self-consistent Born approximation (SCBA).
Furthermore, a procedure based on EHT basis set modification is described. We
use this model to study the effect of the temperature dependent dephasing, due
to low lying modes in far-infrared range for which hw<<kT, on the resonant
conduction through highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level of a phenyl
dithiol molecule sandwiched between two fcc-Au(111) contacts. Furthermore, we
propose to include dephasing in room temperature molecular resonant conduction
calculations.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
On massive tensor multiplets
Massive tensor multiplets have recently been scrutinized in hep-th/0410051
and hep-th/0410149, as they appear in orientifold compactifications of type IIB
string theory. Here we formulate several dually equivalent models for massive N
= 1, N=2 tensor multiplets in four space-time dimensions. In the N = 2 case, we
employ harmonic and projective superspace techniques.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, no figures; V2: reference adde
Nonlinear acoustic and microwave absorption in disordered semiconductors
Nonlinear hopping absorption of ultrasound and electromagnetic waves in
amorphous and doped semiconductors is considered. It is shown that even at low
amplitudes of the electric (or acoustic) field the nonlinear corrections to the
relaxational absorption appear anomalously large. The physical reason for such
behavior is that the nonlinear contribution is dominated by a small group of
close impurity pairs having one electron per pair. Since the group is small, it
is strongly influenced by the field. An external magnetic field strongly
influences the absorption by changing the overlap between the pair components'
wave functions. It is important that the influence is substantially different
for the linear and nonlinear contributions. This property provides an
additional tool to extract nonlinear effects.Comment: correction : misspelled name in references correcte
Optical properties of current carrying molecular wires
We consider several fundamental optical phenomena involving single molecules
in biased metal-molecule-metal junctions. The molecule is represented by its
highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, and the analysis
involves the simultaneous consideration of three coupled fluxes: the electronic
current through the molecule, energy flow between the molecule and
electron-hole excitations in the leads and the incident and/or emitted photon
flux. Using a unified theoretical approach based on the non-equilibrium Green
function method we derive expressions for the absorption lineshape (not an
observable but a ueful reference for considering yields of other optical
processes) and for the current induced molecular emission in such junctions. We
also consider conditions under which resonance radiation can induce electronic
current in an unbiased junction. We find that current driven molecular emission
and resonant light induced electronic currents in single molecule junctions can
be of observable magnitude under appropriate realizable conditions. In
particular, light induced current should be observed in junctions involving
molecular bridges that are characterized by strong charge transfer optical
transitions. For observing current induced molecular emission we find that in
addition to the familiar need to control the damping of molecular excitations
into the metal substrate the phenomenon is also sensitive to the way in which
the potential bias si distributed on the junction.Comment: 56 pages, 8 figures; submitted to JC
Worldline Superfield Actions for N=2 Superparticles
We propose doubly supersymmetric actions in terms of n=2(D-2) worldline
superfields for N=2 superparticles in D=3,4 and Type IIA D=6 superspaces. These
actions are obtained by dimensional reduction of superfield actions for N=1
superparticles in D=4,6 and 10, respectively. We show that in all these models
geometrodynamical constraints on target superspace coordinates do not put the
theory on the mass shell, so the actions constructed consistently describe the
dynamics of the corresponding N=2 superparticles. We also find that in contrast
to the IIA D=6 superparticle a chiral IIB D=6 superparticle, which is not
obtainable by dimensional reduction from N=1, D=10, is described by superfield
constraints which produce dynamical equations. This implies that for the IIB
D=6 superparticle the doubly supersymmetric action does not exist in the
conventional form.Comment: Latex, 20 pp. Minor corrections, acknowledgements adde
